They're approximately as addictive as crack cocaine.

for sure! they are addictive. i started them and didnt think they were anything special until i realized i had to read the next 1 and the next...
Absolutely on of My Favorites series. I will follow all the way to the end!
Depends on what you are into. I haven't looked at your shelves so I think it is a safe bet if you are into paranormal and don't get bent out of shape over romance. If you want to play it safe then get the trade paperback edition of book one...cheap! I got mine off of paperback swap so if I didn't like it then I wouldn't feel too bad about it. It is a good series and will be picking up the rest at some point, while reading it I didn't want to do anything else...my test of a enjoyable read.
Wondering if you should read these books or not? Try the first one and if you like it continue on till the bokks end or you no longer can stand the charachters an move on.
HELL YES! Theses books are the best ever! Nothing in my mind could possible tops this series!
I know how you feel. My cousin has been on my case telling me that I have to read them. Well, I finally gave in. I just finished Dark Lover and are starting Lover Eternal #2, I'M HOOKED!!!! I read one of the comments comparing them to crack cocaine, now I understand why.
Yes you should read them. If you're worried about price...either check them out from the library or buy them used. Either way, you need this series in your life.
Thewy're all brilliant with the exceptions of books 6,9,10 & 11.
I'm not a fan of Phury or Payne, thats probably why I didnt like their books, but I previously loved Tohr, no longer do I feel that love for him. His book ruined it for me.
Also I was soooo looking forward to Qhuinn and Blay's book, but it just sucked.
My favourite brothers are Wrath and Rhage. Although not technically a brother I adore Rehv.
The fact that I feel so strongly abut the books, whether it be admiration or detest, shows the kind of author Ward is. You cant invoke those feelings without having some kind of talent.

This book in my opinion IS THE BEST!! I just LOVE Wrath. So worth the read! :)
I really like this series. My favorites so far have been Lover Eternal, Lover Avenged and Lover Mine! You should definitely start reading them.
These are BY FAR my favorite books ever, and I read A LOT. I would highly recommend them. You could also try getting the audio-books for free at your library!
I am completely obsessed with the brothers so I would recommend them to anyone who loves sexy alpha male vampires!
I think this series is a must read if you enjoy the paranormal genre. I have followed it from the beginning. While I can agree with some of the commenters that Book 6 was not my favorite book, it was a necessary component to the story line and it was still a very good book. While the BDB books have a myriad of characters and many story lines to follow, Book 11 is supposed to give us some resolution regarding Qhuinn and Blay's relationship(the one and only gay couple in the series, technically, Qhuinn is bi). Many authors in the M/M genre believe that this will boost the popularity of their genre as JR Ward is a NY Times bestseller. She has definitely created an unforgettable world with the BDB. I think she originally intended to only write 10 books, but I have seen hints in her interviews that she might write one or two more after "Lover At Last".
This is definitely one of my favorite series. The beginning of the series is way more focused and the books are a bit shorter. In the later books of the series, there are so many more characters and issues going on so Ward jumps from character to character. I love that at times and hate it at others. But this series is just so unique to me. I got bored with the rest of the plot besides the love part in the later books. I'm hoping that J.R. Ward gets more into that in Lover at Last. I already have it and I'm super excited to read it!
Anita, I read them all through the local library, they even had them in the eBook lending library. I made it through the first 7, if I had it to do over again, I would probably just read the first one and Zsadist's.
After a while, the language really started to bother me. Not just the incessant foul language, but the over-the-top slang. And it seemed like there was too much sex and not enough romance in a lot of the books. Plus, less than half of the heroines have a personality, literally.

honest opinion: books 1-5 are great. 6 is bad. 7 is the best in the series. 8 is okay. 9 and 10 were terrible. TERRIBLE! also she starts toying with the happy endings of established couples in book 9 so if that's something that will bother you just be warned. the do go from romance to UF. way less focus on the main couple in the later books and more focus on all this other stuff.

I definately agree about book 6; I was so excited for Phury's story and then ended up getting royally gipped.

This is my first venture into this genre and I am totally hooked. I bought the first book and have been getting the others from the library. It is worth the time. I'm going through a bit if withdrawal while I wait for book #5 to arrive at my library.
YES! YES! YES! Definitely read them. They are definitely worth it. And they are totally addictive. If you are a PNR girl, like myself, you will totally love this series. I have yet to read anything that comes close to it, when it comes to the world, the characters & everything else in between. I think the series started in like 2003 or 2004 something like that. I started it in 2009. And like I said I'm a PNR Junkie and I still have yet to read anything that's it's equal or better.
READ THIS SERIES ;D and then come back and tell us all about it.

I definitely recommend them if you love paranormal romance. J.R. Ward has created a fantastic world that seems so real because her characters go through crisis and things that we can relate to. Though there is a lot of controversy over the later novels in the series not being as good, I myself being one of those that didn't think very highly of them, I'm actually almost done rereading them as I type this. I have to say my opinion has changed and I think all the books have something unique to offer and they are a joy to read and watch the characters grow.
I've enjoyed them - the first 4 are my favorites, after that they switch to a more UF approach rather than PNR (but it hasn't stopped me from reading all of them). Her new one is out tomorrow
