Jen (reader44ever) | 183 comments Hello, Can I change the order of the editions so that the English version appears in the listings as first? Right now, the Arabic version mentioned above is the lead item. I would like to change this to the English edition: The Future of Print in the 21st Century. Thanks!

If I can do this (I'm a normal librarian) can you tell me how, please? And if I can't do it, where should I request that it be done? Please and thanks!

Emy (emypt) | 5037 comments Only authors and GR staff (like Rivka) can change primary editions. I'm fairly sure there's nowhere specific to ask, as I think it was decided we weren't getting involved as Librarians...

Jen (reader44ever) | 183 comments Okay, should I create a new topic somewhere? Or will Rivka be along to see this one, do you think?

K.g. Powderly (kg_powderly) | 2 comments Hi, I would also like the primary editions of the 4 books in my novel series "The Windows of Heaven" to be the new, better looking cover, expanded versions. The books are:
Dawn Apocalypse Rising
The Paladin's Odyssey
A Broken Paradise
and I think The Tides of Nemesis already goes to the new version first.
Thanks,

Vicky (librovert) | 2462 comments KG,

Primary editions are a feature only available to Goodreads Authors.

You can claim you author profile here, it could take several day to process this as they are processed by GR staff. Once you've been accepted into the program you can follow the directions here to switch your primary editions.

Rivka will not be changing primary editions. If an author is on Goodreads, they can change a book's primary edition. Otherwise, it will stay the default, most-shelved edition.

The book I asked about hasn't had anyone add, read or review it for either edition. So will the Arabic version stay on top, even though all of this author's (he's not Goodreads author) other works are in English?

Yes, probably because the Arabic edition was added first. Nothing to do with popularity in this case. A loophole in the logic, perhaps.

Actually, it looks like the English edition has a single, recent, add. When caching catches up (a couple days), it will probably end up the default. Unless two people shelve the Arabic version first, of course.

The fact that the author's other works are in English isn't especially relevant. Plenty of American romance novelists have books whose most popular editions are Indonesian translations. The new tool was put in place for members of the Goodreads Author program, not to start setting primary editions for every book with a "non-ideal" current default.

Banjomike | 5166 comments The only shelver I can see is Benham H who originally added & shelved the Arabic edition. Is there another shelver in the system?

I'm not suggesting setting the primary, just curious about this situation.

Ah, sorry. I misread the ratings detail summary.

Guess two people would have to shelve the English edition to make it primary.
