Ghostman

Ghostman, a book by Roger Hobbs

I just finished reading this and was really impressed. Very simply, it's about a man who participates in large robberies, such as international banks. There is a lot of very convincing details about robberies in general and specifics about methods. It is a novel, not a handbook, however. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Equal to the hype. Not only an outstanding debut, an engaging rollicking ride. Intense, bloody and smart. Wouldn't we all like to have just a little Jack Delton in our personal mix? If you want to know, read this book."
i agree, i really enjoyed this book a lot. i will definitley read more from this author and this seems like a character he could write about again.
another book i enjoyed that included the criminals point of view was The Professionals by Owen Laukkanen. the heists and cons were not of the magnitude of Ghostman, but still a fast paced thriller. it was his first book and it came out last year. if you liked Ghostman i think you would like this one too.

This was an outstanding debut and I look forward to reading more by Mr. Hobbs. I will definitely recommend this book to others.
It's an interesting first effort for an anti-hero amoral book. I will look at the next in the series to see if he stays on the right side of the line.

Spoiler here, but did anyone consider who the FBI agent was? The last description of her (waiting with a crooked smile) dovetailed completely with the description of Angela shortly before, with the addition that Jack hadn't heard anything from her in 5 years. She could be dead, she could be anywhere, she could be anyone.
Fabulous writing. This genre depends on being able to generate a sense of realism - that the author has actually been there and done that - and this book succeeds. The writer must also strike a fine balance between creating unique situations and characters to generate and maintain interest and staying within the realm of the possible. I have set a watch on Roger Hobbs and will buy his next book as soon as it comes out.
The monthly Crime Reading Group at my local library in suburban South London gave this one a clear thumbs-down. But that said, there's nobody under 30 in the group & all but one are women. Nuff said! I thought Hobbs was trying too hard to write a film script! Too much about gratuitous violence!
