Hey everyone! What do you guys think the swings in this book represented? The way that I interpreted it was that jumping off the swings is a transition from being a child to an adult. When your a child, your scared to jump off the swing because its a big risk and you might hurt yourself. When you get older, you just take the risk and jump because life events gave you the courage; or sometimes just forced the courage upon you. Ellie "jumped off a swing" because she had to take responsibility for the baby, even though she gave it away. Caleb "jumped off a swing" by growing to understand that the fact that his father left is nothing to stress over and you should learn not to care about those kinds of things. What do you guys think?
