This is the place to ask for help :)

Vicky (librovert) How broad is our definition of hero/villain for this?

I've read a few things lately that don't really have a character I would call a villain, but there are definitely characters who are antagonists. Would they count?

We can take it case by case if you want? Give a few examples?

I read Batman Year One by Frank Miller and there is also no clear cut villain. I think the villain team will have to work hard to beat the heroes. But we can do it! :D

Vicky (librovert) Some of these may not even fit with any of the tasks, but they just kind of got me thinking about what would qualify.

Qwan, Volume 1 - Qwan is looking for the Essential Arts of Peace so he can find his purpose and Yuushi gets in his way. I can't tell from the first volume if he's really a villain or if he's just crazy, but he's definitely an antagonist and the blurb about him on Wikipedia suggests he's constantly getting in Qwan's way.

Strangers in Paradise, Volume 1 - Francine and Frank have been together almost a year and all Frank wants is to get in her pants. They end up fighting, he cheats on her and after a long string of one-thing-leads-to-another, Francine ends up bedridden with a major concussion for several days. This is one that I'm not even sure I can fit with one of the tasks, but it got me thinking about the slew of relationship based comics/mangas. If there is a main couple that the story revolves around, would the antagonist that constantly trying to break them up be considered a villain?

The Prince's Cactus is another one having to do with relationship drama. Dan comes to Greece for her sisters wedding and meets a Prince (who happens to be her sister's new son-in-law... yeah, it's a little weird). There's a character who is constantly harassing her to leave the prince alone, threatening her and goes so far as to slice off her hair in the middle of the street in an attempt to force her to go home and when that doesn't work, shoves her off her yacht into the ocean. In the grand scheme of villains, I wouldn't call her a villain, but if I had to pick a villain from that particular story, I would pick her.

Qwan, Volume 1 - I would say go for it. I always try to take it back to Harry Potter. This sounds like Draco and he is considered a villain.

I am not too sure about someone trying to break up a relationship. I think it is just more of a Bully than a Villain.

However The Prince's Cactus the person really goes out to harm the other character. I would actually say this is more of a villain. They are causing physical harm as well.

What does anyone else think?

Kelly (kelstretch) I agree with Lu but I'm also unsure of what to say about Strangers in Paradise. A lot of manga revolves around ideas like that one, but I also can't decide about wether the antagonist is a bully or villain. Villains cause harm, but I guess not only physical harm?

Yea I know what you mean. I was also thinking of the undermine part, I think if the person is undermining the hero's plans of being good, then it counts as a villian?

The other thing is, like in Pandora Hearts *spoilers* (view spoiler) Now I don't know what happens in the rest, but if I'm going to use volume 1, I don't think he can be seen as the villian as he starts out as it but ends as a friend?

So we need someone who is undermining, screws up plans and generally hates the hero?

Kelly (kelstretch) Sorry everyone, I didn't get a notification on this thread.

I think they need to be a clear cut villain, because there are so many other bullies and nasty characters who don't end up being bad guys, like Snape.

Yea I don't like guessing if someone is a villain. If I google the villain and he/she pops up as a DEFINITE villain I'm happy. If there are ones I'm not sure about I'll ask here :)

Kelly (kelstretch) Sorted

Kelly (kelstretch) Would Doctor Who count for the alternate reality one?
