Philip (burnnerman) | 5912 comments #52 - Is the other book under the following profile your's also?

KC Klein

If it is I we need to put in a request to merge the profile into yours, since there is a fan attached to the profile.

Since there are 2 books under that other profile and a fan I have put a request in to have that profile merged into your existing one.

Kate Tilton (k8tilton) | 22 comments Hi I have a question.

Here is an author A.D. Starrling:
https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...
Here information is all filled out and the books are updated.

But it looks like there is a duplicate profile for AD Starrling (without the periods): https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...

And that page lists Greene's Calling: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...
Which is also listed here: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

So is there someway to remove the extra Greene's Calling and get rid of the additional author page?

Stephen (havan) | 330 comments I looked at your profile and the two books you mention show as being authored by DK Simoneau without my changing anything.. It looks to me like everything is back where you want it. Please advise if anything is still not under the right attribution.

BTW... people following the method suggested in this thread would NOT have come across your name as one needing correction. This method finds author names like Allen B Graves
which should be listed as Allen B. Graves.Allen B Graves

Alex | 2736 comments Uhm, all of that aside... GR has a very strict naming policy. Initials are followed by a single period, with no spaces in between, irrespective of what's on the cover, to avoid the nightmarish mess that all the potential spellings would create. Books moved back.

Your name is currently correct according to GR policy, so please do not move the books any more.

You would be best served by contacting GR staff via support at goodreads dot com. A librarian cannot change a GR author profile.

Sarah | 124 comments I have a question about this.

When merging away duplicate author names, if the CORRECT author name is associated with a Goodreads Author, I can't merge into that. But I can edit the books individually and point them to the correct author.

Is it then acceptable to merge the resulting empty page into some completely unrelated author, just to make it go away? (Provided, of course, that there are no fans, quotes, etc.)

For example, this author profile is now completely empty:
https://www.goodreads.com/author/show...
Since merging really just deletes the profile if it's empty, does it MATTER what it's merged to?

Sarah | 124 comments I just noticed that another thread refers to a cleanup script, but when working through a popular name, it would be a lot easier if I could get these off the list right away.

As long as there are no fans, quotes, etc., yes. But if there's even a SINGLE one of those, you must get an employee to merge for you.

Aude (audek) | 57 comments I've done the letter P from the google document.

Philip (burnnerman) | 5912 comments You can pretty much do this every week and more will show up, I have cleaned up that one and many others numerous times.

Don't despair her. The amount of profiles currently with such issues is so much smaller then what we had few years back.

you can search profiles that need fixing yourself. Use the add book/author search option above the comment box. It gives better results then the main search engine. For example type in aa or ab (for two initials together).

Yes, as long as Amazon c.s. keep importing author names without periods between the initials it's a pretty pointless (har har) task.

In my defence, I didn't. I commented before seeing your reply to Philip (had not refreshed the page). Of course I would have refrained from posting such a negative comment otherwise :P

Of course. Who would ignore the voice of reason (me)? ;)
