Hank (hankenstein) | 1231 comments There is probably an easier way to browse but you can start here

https://www.goodreads.com/group/books...

message 1652: by DivaDiane (new)

DivaDiane SM | 3683 comments All the books on the group Bookshelf are the books in question. You have to use the app to see that. Or friend the SFFBC mod account, their books are all in the bookshelf.

message 1653: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10435 comments Chase, check out Current Events in the description on the group's homepage! It has links to everything you could possibly need :)

There are many ways to find out how many group books you've read, I recommend comparing with the mod account's bookshelf.

The List of books is in the Bookshelf option on the top right and the comparison of your books read vs the groups bookshelf is here https://www.goodreads.com/user/compar...

Michael (brainfog85) | 25 comments I have read 15 of them I see. And started about the same amount that I never finished :')

message 1656: by Joseph (new)

Joseph (jsaltal) | 3 comments I believe I've read 7.

a.g.e. montagner (agem) | 660 comments And I believe my current number is 26. Probably 31 by summer's end.

message 1658: by Bonnie (new)

Bonnie | 1280 comments I am up to 70% !!!

I updated spreadsheet after Tusks of Extinction, A Scanner Darkly, and Babel-17.

Will have to keep reading to *stay* at 70%... But I am glad I made it this far. I started nine years ago ~~!

By the way, the group bookshelf hit 400 now.

message 1659: by a.g.e. montagner (new)

a.g.e. montagner (agem) | 660 comments 70% is impressive.
It's gonna take me a while just to reach 70!

really impressive as I've only reached 43% of the 405 books listed (175 read)

message 1661: by Midiain (new)

Midiain | 310 comments The problems I usually have with reading groups are that I'm very much a mood reader, and my taste in books is chaotic and random. That makes me terrible at joining in group reads and book discussions. However, I've apparently read 129 of the club books.

message 1662: by DivaDiane (new)

DivaDiane SM | 3683 comments That’s great Midlain! But don’t worry about reading with the group. The threads of discussion are perpetual and many people “necropost” (post about a book when they’ve read it long after the appointed month)!

message 1663: by Christopher (new)

Christopher | 981 comments I'm at 165, which is lower than I wanted to be this time last year (I had guessed maybe 175 by end of 2023 & 200 by end of 2024), but I've also meandered off the path more following my own reading whims.

I do hope to get to 200 someday though!

message 1664: by Chris (new)

Chris | 1130 comments I just finished number 250 (I Who Have Never Known Men).

Recently my pace has been 15 per year, so it will be a while before I reach 300.

message 1665: by CJ (last edited Dec 05, 2024 07:47AM) (new)

CJ | 545 comments Impressive, Chris and everyone else.

Hmm, I don't think I've ever looked into this, but I suspect I'm quite lacking since my reading in recent years has been terribly inconsistent. Maybe this could be a challenge for next year.

EDIT: laughing the first post in the thread complaining about Weaveworld, which I've read! So I can sympathize. I still have intrusive memories about that book and I read it like 30 years ago? I need to shelve that here.

message 1666: by Sherene (new)

Sherene Levert | 45 comments I have only read about 34, I haven't been active in the group previously so my reading hasn't really aligned. There are only about 10 of the unread ones currently on my TBR. I think I will challenge myself to see if I can fit some others into the mix in 2025

message 1667: by Anne (new)

Anne | 169 comments I counted 110. I have read more fantasy, but the average rating for sci fi is likely higher since I am more selective in which books I will read in that genre.

message 1668: by Stephen (new)

Stephen Burridge | 517 comments A quick count tells me I’ve read 157. My first comment in this thread was in January 2020, when I had read 112. Obviously I’ve lost ground, & presumably will continue to do so.

message 1669: by Megan (new)

Megan (gentlyread) | 156 comments A couple weeks ago, I hit 100 books with Wild Seed and since then, I nudged my count upward again with The Dispossessed: An Ambiguous Utopia. I haven't felt very discussion-y about books lately (I just checked; it's been three years since I last posted in this group) but I've appreciated having the list of book club books to read from. And there's still so many more books I'm excited to read, and I want to get back in the swing of discussing, too!

My biggest surprise from the book club books was A Night in the Lonesome October. I wasn't expecting to like it because I don't have much grounding in cosmic horror, but I had a blast reading it and then catching up on the decades of research and theories readers have had on it! It was such a run and rewarding reading experience.

Allison Hurd | 14234 comments Mod
Congrats on hitting triple digits Megan! And yes, Lonesome October is a cult favorite for a very compelling list of reasons, I think. I'm so glad you enjoyed the experience! :)

message 1671: by Mary (new)

Mary None yet...I'm not long on the group. Hello all, I'm Mary and would be happy if you add me wanna make new book friends. Will add back. I like all genres but favorite would be thriller and fiction books.

You have to read 25+ club reads a year to not loose ground because. we add 24 books each year. 157 is more that 112, so win.

Yes. I seem to be averaging about 9 per year. I’m a little suprised it’s that many.

message 1675: by Bobby (last edited Dec 30, 2024 08:09PM) (new)

Bobby Durrett | 234 comments I have 39 that I have read since getting on Goodreads. We are definitely adding them faster that I am reading them. Only read 20 books last year though several were on the list. I.e. I just finished The Obelisk Gate. May have more time for reading in 2025. I have over 100 books that I want to read many of them which are on the list.

message 1676: by Olga (new)

Olga Yolgina | 589 comments This year got me to 106 and I’m shocked by it! I still have hundreds of cool books to go through.

message 1677: by Meredith (new)

Meredith | 1783 comments With the ones I read this year and a few the group added that I had read previously, I am up to 229.

I'm at 199 and will break into the 200 club in 2025!!

message 1679: by DivaDiane (new)

DivaDiane SM | 3683 comments According to the challenge tracker on TSG I’ve read 171 books from our shelves. I think it will take me more than a year to get into the 200 club, but never say never!

Do we know # 200?

message 1681: by Melanie, the neutral party (new)

Melanie | 1620 comments Mod
I've started Our Wives Under the Sea so that will be #200 (unless I change my mind bc I'm a mood reader.)

message 1682: by Netanella (new)

Netanella | 345 comments I'm at 101 books according to StoryGraph.

Once "Our Wives Under the Sea" is read, I will be at 102 since I've already read it. I'm also planning to put down a few more SFFBC books in the month of January!

you might want to look at the list - I found over 50 that I'd read in the past

message 1686: by Jeongwoo (new)

Jeongwoo Lee | 24 comments Honestly, I haven’t read many of the club books yet—I’m still pretty new here and getting used to Goodreads. 😅 But I love sci-fi and always looking for recommendations!

If you had to pick one book from the club list that I must read, which one would you suggest?

message 1687: by Bobby (new)

Bobby Durrett | 234 comments So, I went through the book list for the group and found 23 books that I read which are not already in my read list. I set these all to 2021 since I joined Goodreads in 2022. So, I can compare with SFFBC's read list to automate this. Hopefully it is close. I have 64. So, I guess I've read 41 club books since starting Goodreads in July 2022.

message 1688: by DivaDiane (new)

DivaDiane SM | 3683 comments Hi Jeongwoo, my first thought is to recommend any of the books by Ursula K. LeGuin that we have on the shelf, but while she is my absolute favorite author, her style is not for everyone, or it might take some getting used to. That said, we should probably move this convo to the reading recommendations folder/thread, where you should tell us what sort of thing (themes, style, length, series/standalone) you like and we can help more.

message 1689: by DivaDiane (new)

DivaDiane SM | 3683 comments Way to go Bobby! I found that I had already read a bunch of the books on the shelf when I joined too. It made the idea of Reading All the Books not quite so daunting!

message 1690: by Steven (new)

Steven | 6 comments Thanks for the instructions on how to do the mod compare.
It says I have read 122 of the 425 books, which is a very cool 28.71%.

Lee Driftwood | 3 comments Interesting list, definitely helps discover some authors that I never heard of. Have read a few dozens of the books on the list, but with my long commute to NYC I'll try to catch up :)
I was surprised not to find any of Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman books considering how popular they were back in the day. How are they perceived these days? Being a child of the 70s they will always hold a special place in my heart.
