message 1151: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (jessica_peter) Huh, hm. I counted the official way with the comparison and got 47 rather than my manual count (+ 3 DNFs I'll call it 50). But I will add more this year!

message 1152: by Stephen (new)

Stephen Burridge | 517 comments A quick manual count tells me I’ve now read 123, having read 12 in 2020.

Stephanie (stefaniajoy) | 272 comments After finishing my 2020 challenge of 12 books, I'm officially over 100 with a grand total of 102!

HeyT | 506 comments I just updated my tracking spreadsheet and I'm ending the year at 146.

Two months later and I'm on 21. Hope to at least finish 2021 with 35. Let's see how I go.

message 1158: by Richard (last edited Jan 03, 2021 03:10PM) (new)

Richard (thinkingbluecountingtwo) | 447 comments Starting the new year with 188 read, that's almost 59%.

Hoping to make it into the Clubhouse 200 VIP Room by the end of 2021, I will have to think of some culinary specialty to bring with me if I manage it. Not sure I’ll ever be able to improve on my current percentage, maybe if The Machine Stops and no books are added for six months I might just make some headway. Who knows what 2021 will bring after the challenges of 2020.

Hoping everybody’s having a lovely New Year wherever you are and I look forward to hearing all about your reading in 2021.

message 1159: by Hank (new)

Hank (hankenstein) | 1231 comments 188 is solid! Adding 12 seems very doable.

Thanks Hank, but considering when I joined the group I’d read 100% of the bookshelf it’s been a long slow decline since then.

But onwards and upwards eh Hank.

message 1161: by Hank (new)

Hank (hankenstein) | 1231 comments Got to keep it fresh, the bookshelf is amazing but it is not everything!

message 1162: by Bonnie (new)

Bonnie | 1280 comments "Good news"
Tonight while watching TV I dug up old "Books Read in 20--" lists from my Palm Pilot before I had a smartphone (or Goodreads). I input many books and the year read for more. I found that in 2003 I read "Complete Grimm's Fairy Tales" and, I had the wrong Terry Pratchett book - it was Guards! Guards! not Jingo, that we read; both for my SF book club in Seattle.

I am only two away from the 150 Clubhouse Level, Hurrah!

message 1166: by Bonnie (new)

Bonnie | 1280 comments Arise! I am going to hit the 150 Clubhouse Level soon. Isn't there a special food? I am in Pandemic Lockdown and rarely leave the apartment, I would like to do the celebratory food. What is it!?

message 1167: by Hank (new)

Hank (hankenstein) | 1231 comments Ok, I went through the thread, looks like chocolate in all forms is for crossing 100. There is some mention of broccolini which doesn't really sound like a reward :) and some possibly poisonous brandy at 200. And lots of bubbly water and alcohol for any number you hit!

I am not sure what we need most but I am thinking red wine is a good bet.

message 1168: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10435 comments If 100 is chocolate and 200 is booze, then 150 is chocolate liqueur? Or those weirdo bottle shaped chocolates with booze inside?

message 1169: by Sabrina (new)

Sabrina | 375 comments I'm in favour of some celebratory food at 150! Chocolate liqueur sounds good, but cheesecake would be awesome!?!

I'm currently at 141 books, so it seems like a good incentive :-)

message 1170: by Anna (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10435 comments Is there choc liqueur flavored cheesecake? I'm not a cheesecake person, so I have no idea :D

message 1171: by Silvana (new)

Cool! Now only 13 books to go for me...

message 1175: by Lost Planet Airman (new)

Lost Planet Airman | 766 comments Since the question of tangible rewards is on the table, I'm at 241, creeping up on the 250 mark this year.

It appears a steak dinner is out of the question, with the number of non-carnivorous members in the club. A statue seems a little excessive? Perhaps an original work of art commissioned in the awardee's name?

A limerick seems about right, for this crowd.

message 1176: by Allison, Fairy Mod-mother (last edited Jan 17, 2021 06:00AM) (new)

Allison Hurd | 14234 comments Mod
hahaha! yes, we can all gather in the clubhouse with our treats and listen to the induction limericks composed for folks who hit 250

(edit to correct number I typed on my phone!)

message 1177: by Allison, Fairy Mod-mother (new)

Allison Hurd | 14234 comments Mod
if I ever become a millionaire, I'm definitely hosting a club event featuring broccolini, chocolate and limericks. that seems like my sort of eccentricity

message 1178: by Bonnie (new)

Bonnie | 1280 comments Oh man, I was hoping Hank had got that broccolini off the table for me! ;-)
I am feeling that for the full effect I will need red wine, broccolni, liqueur, *and* cheesecake brownies - for me to truly revel in my 150 glory!
Something like these

message 1179: by Anna (last edited Jan 17, 2021 05:56AM) (new)

Anna (vegfic) | 10435 comments Don't worry, I'll take care of the broccolini, both bringing it and eating it!

Bunnicula will probably try to help, but I'll keep his veg juice thirsty fangs off of my broccolini by adding lots of garlic! (Because of course Bunnicula lives in the clubhouse.)

This was my second pick for the cheesecake brownies picture, only narrowly lost to the choco chip version :)

(now I'm truly craving for it....)

Putting this in spoilers, because I think this is well beyond the scope of this thread, but I just had a nice time daydreaming over coffee about what I'd do for a SFFBCon

message 1183: by Bonnie (last edited Jan 17, 2021 06:55AM) (new)

Bonnie | 1280 comments OK right now I am going to the special bakery/cafe that sometimes has cheesecake brownies. AN OUTING! I AM SO EXCITED! Might as well do it before the (possibility discussed by Angela Merkel) Mega Lockdown starts.
We can't post pics to threads, is that right? But I could upload a "profile pic" to GR and put an A HREF link to that?( I switched to mostly ebooks so a book pile behind the food will be less impressive, but I will still photograph something.)

message 1184: by Allison, Fairy Mod-mother (new)

Allison Hurd | 14234 comments Mod
You can post pics here! It's just a bit complicated. You can post a link to your IG or Twitter if that's easier! Or you can upload it online and then use the html to link it.

message 1185: by Hank (new)

Hank (hankenstein) | 1231 comments 250 books read is quite much
A full life you lead? Not as such
The A mods make clear
The reward is not beer
Instead a dream you can't touch

It's a good dream though!

Congrats on 250....I think?

message 1193: by Kateb (new)

Kateb | 959 comments I retired in 2008. For the past 4 years I have had an ongoing illness that requires me to rest at home for a lot of days of the week.

Perfect, I cry, and now have an excuse to read nearly all day.

I have a list of books to read i have obtained from good read readers over the years. When I read the book it is them moved to one of 3 other lists: didnt like, liked, find more of this author’s books.

efficient , I thought.

But no , stop giving me more and more books that look great , I am drowning in choices.

Other than that I have read about 300 books in 2020, this year I have only done the complete J R Ward Brother hood series and side series , just finished the jackal

DivaDiane SM | 3683 comments Sorry to hear about your illness, but glad you are still able to read!! And so much!!

message 1195: by Meredith (new)

Meredith | 1783 comments I am aiming for 150 this year and I really like the idea of celebrating with some desert type treat. I might make Chocolate Chess Pie. Elma makes Chess Pie during The Fated Sky and Mary Robinette Kowal shared a recipe for the chocolate version on her blog. I've made it a couple times.

@Bonnie, Spectacular! and congrats too!
@Allison, this is the best daydream!

hahahaha!

You have to make the vignette! And I heartily approve, great staging, full story. Definitely worth making your spouse wait. In fact, I was expecting you to say you told them that they would get it when they'd read 150 books! Which would have been mean but funny ^^
