The Great Succession Crisis is a romance and epic adventure filled with courtly intrigue with an increasing amount of paranormal elements as the series progresses (GSC is book one of both the series and its Anlei's Legacy arc). Look to the final bonus chapter for a special supernatural surprise.
As an author I am known for my world building (not a surprise when you realize Professor Tolkien is my greatest influence) which really begins here with this series opener.
It is not a vampire story or typical urban fantasy. But I think you will all really enjoy it.
And FYI, UK residents may actually like the book better than Americans; my education is in medieval history where I've been particularly influenced by both Irish and English history.
