Declan I agree. It makes sense to download the classics for free. I was amazed that I could do that. I am SO late in my discoveries! I guess you can teach a middle-almost old aged dog new tricks!

This is a good place to ask. There are a few members here who know a trick or two about about getting the best of the internet.

I've never heard of that rule, Allan. It sounds quite reasonable actually. I've read books which are younger than that because their copyright wasn't updated.

I have this funny reminiscence thing that happens with Audiobooks a lot... I was bringing the dog for a walk the other night along a route I rarely take. And as I was going by particular spots, sections of audiobooks were jumoing into my head that I was listening to the last time I went by that spot. I think audiobooks remove the 'physical thing' even more. It's just you and the words. So my associations are more often with locations rather than the physical object.

Btw I love going into book shops and flicking through the paperbackof the audiobook I'm listening to. I do like to see the proper cover, and feel the weight in my hand.

I'm not down on real books at all! I just get a bit defensive now and then when people rag on ebooks so much. Ebooks and audiobooks gave my reading a whole new lease of life and that's an understatement.

John Braine (trontsephore) I often buy audiobooks I really enjoy in physical form for my shelves, but wait until they come right down in price-for example

Good idea. I see that a few of my favourite audiobooks are available as cheap second hand paperbacks.

I've not done the opposite yet either - bought an audiobook version of a book I've loved - but was thinking about doing it with A Short History of Nearly Everything

Brian O'Sullivan | 280 comments You might want to try Podiobooks as well, John. They do free audiobooks in serialized form. Again, the quality varies as a lot of them are self-produced but I've foudn some gems there. I was on there this morning and Michael J Sullivan's (well known epic fantasy writer) 'Crown Conspiracy' was up.

Thank you Allan!
