Jeremy (robotrock586) Hello everyone. My name is J.T. and I come from the 'mitten-state'. I really love to read, especially fiction books like 'sci-fi' and fantasy. I have been living with my partner of going on 8 years (which is a wonderful thing). I'm also disabled due to a chronic genetic disease so reading has been my go-to hobby to take my mind off things.

Anyways, thanks for letting me join and I look forward to engaging in discussions with the group in the future.

Happy Reading!
-J.T.

Is there only one 'mitten state'?

message 3: by Jeremy (new)

Jeremy (robotrock586) Lol. In Michigan we call it the 'mitten state' because it looks like the shape of a mitten on a map.

Nancy | 2838 comments Ah, so Wisconsin is just a 'mitten state' wannabe?

Thisgurl | 4 comments Hello!

ThisGurl aka Ebby. I live in swfl with my 2 dogs (max & dora) and my skitty kitty (bella). my sweetie (the delectable ruthie) just moved into her own place after a rooming with friends for the last year while she completed chemo treatment. i'm not ready to live with anyone, but we do spend a lot of time together otherwise.

i love to read just about anything. well i'll give just about any book a chance, but if it doesn't grab my attention and make me want to KNOW what happens next i will delete and return it off my ipod in a nano second. life is too short to waste valuable time listening to a crappy book you know?

just tonight finished up Under Heaven. Will be starting The House on Tradd Street soon as i get my jammies on.

thanx for letting me come in and play with yawl ;-)

Jeremy (robotrock586) Hi Ebby and welcome!

I know what you mean on axing books that don't catch my attention immediately. I chalk it up to both ADD and OCD.

How do you like the audible books? I don't think I could ever go that route bc what i imagine the character to sound like is never the case of the reader...that and I actively think while reading and get distracted from others reading, etc. I guess I'm an old school book geek who happens to read the latest books on my e-reader!

i'm an old school book geek too. nothing better than the feel and smell of a book clutched in my hands. I worked at a bookstore for 10 years and have closets filled with examples of my bookaholism. so with space being on a premium at the house i have cut down on buying books and use the library. except then i tend to take out too many books and have spent a lot of money on late fines...lol

being a pt student with a 30-40 minute daily commute to work (very limiting to fun reading time sigh) i got into books on audio. hated those at first but then i began looking at listening to books as akin to oral storytelling you know? my own personal bard there in the car while i drove or at home while i washed dishes. (cuts down on tv watching let me tell you)

SOOOOOO...i have an ipod that will allow me to listen to books too. no cds to lose or find out are scratched and skipping. no late fees as the books disappear from my "bookshelf" after 14 days (whether i'm done or not...lol)

i still love holding a good book (can't really get into the e-book thing) but i've made adjustments and love hearing a book being read. PLUS it helps with the pronunciation of names...lol

appreciate your warm welcome!

Hi Don!

i used to be that person too. forcing myself to finish a book no matter how much i was not enjoying it. but as i got older, and started taking classes where i was forced to read the most tedious of text, i realized that for my fun reading i could no longer make myself suffer through a book.

i give a book at least 3 chapters and if i can't find SOMETHING to grip me (character, plot, dialogue) then i give it up for lost and move on.

so many books, so little time and all that lol
