Ted Rickon, along with Bran, saw in his dreams that his father (view spoiler). That also suggests some warging potential.

I think it's more of an indication that Bran, and probably Rickon, are more than just wargs - they're skinchangers + greenseers.

Eyehavenofilter I think Arya has been warning longer that she thinks. She's doing it in Bravos for sure. She mentions it, and how much she loves it, but she thinks its dreaming. Maybe that will be part of her learning skill set?

Felicia Arya and her fate are definitely interesting and I am excited to hear more about her once the next books are out. there is something that seems to have slipped peoples minds when assessing her personality and what she will do with her life. when this series started she was only 9 years old. and by this book she is about 11 i believe. that's still pretty young even for this world. her personality could swing in any direction once she is older. i still think her revenge and kill list will stay with her no matter what, but i also think that other things will become important to her as she grows up. like getting her families home back. all the starks are very loyal to each other and i believe she will inherit that. so some day she may return to Winterfell and maybe even find a husband(Gendry?). im not saying she will go all highborn lady on us, i just think she will grow up and realize there are other important things besides killing and being on her own.

She could eventually get back to Winterfell,(view spoiler)

Fabitha Thank you for starting this discussion *__* I LOVE Arya, she's one of my favourite! Her POV are always interesting, and she is such a strong, stubborn, cool character: I love her the most because she is the younger and yet the smarter of the Starks. I don't think she's gonna die, but I also don't think she's gonna truly became an assassin, I think she'll just learn what she need to learn, and then get back to Westeros and kick a lot of asses <3

Marie Sindao Arya is my favorite character and I really got excited about how she has become in the story. I hope to read more about her in the next book.

Sheri As a whole, I have started to become disenchanted with these novels. They seem to be dragging out for me and not getting anywhere - will there be an actual end/resolution? The exception to this is the Arya storyline, which I find is the most outstanding. I think she is by far the most interesting character, with Tyrion a close second, and I do keep reading in the hopes that she will see more page time in the upcoming novels. There are only a few characters in these books that I would say have a true sense of honor - and I think that Arya, Jon, Tyrion and maybe now even Jaime are examples of that.

Felicia You don't think Dany has a true sense of Honor?

If I might offer a suggestion: just skip certain chapters completely... I haven't read ANY of the chapter's from Balon Greyjoy's brothers, I don't really see them ever being huge players or making large impacts on the storyline... And most of the Dornish ones I just skim through... I may regret it later, but if I do, I can always go back and read just THOSE chapters... Some of them just seem so useless. So far it hasn't bitten me in the butt yet... I even heard from a friend that there was some squabbling between Martin and his editor's for the 4th book because of all the useless characters there... but who knows... Anyway, good luck :D

Sheri I guess to a certain degree Dany does, but overall I find her storyline one of those that seems to be endless so I tend to read through it very quickly. Just my opinion.

Sheri Jdude81 wrote: "Sheri wrote: "As a whole, I have started to become disenchanted with these novels. They seem to be dragging out for me and not getting anywhere - will there be an actual end/resolution? The except..."

That is a very interesting approach and I admit that it had never occured to me to do that. However, from an editing standpoint, if I can skip whole POV chapters and have it not take away from the forwarding of the plot, then they are unnecessary in the first place and shouldn't be there. That would be my biggest complaint to GRRM. But I will have to give your suggestion a shot.

message 63: by Josh (new) - rated it 4 stars

Josh i can't for the life of me guess why you would skip chapters of a book

message 64: by Felicia (last edited May 14, 2013 06:56PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Felicia You can only skip chapters up to a certain point. Eventually you will have to go back and read them because there are things that happen that will be brought up or involved in other characters chapters. As well as once the books come to a conclusion those chapters will definitely need to be read as they will be part of the stories ending and leaving them out may cause confusion. there are reasons for everything GRRM tells us and it will eventually come back full circle at the end.
and though certain chapters may seem unimportant there are always small things that come up later. I would suggest actually reading the Greyjoy chapters as they will be more involved in the next book with certain of the other main characters.
And with these books being a series of books that all fit together, sometimes someones story wont progress for a book and things slow down, but eventually they pick up and move forward.

Kelly Waldschmidt Josh wrote: "this is purely speculation as i don't think there is anything in the texts to indicate the following, but i believe that arya is going to be hired to kill someone either, that she knows or at least..."

In the first book I thought the plot was hinting that Jon Snow and Arya may end up together. I know they are half siblings (maybe, I have some other thoughts on Snow's biological parents), but families such as the Targarayens (sp) married siblings. I no longer think they will be romantically linked, but I could see them somehow ruling together, maybe with Dany. I also do not believe that Snow is dead yet. If Arya is asked to kill him, I will be crushed.

ouch! That was something I hadn't even co considered!
I HAD thought she might have to assassinate someone she knew, perhaps Someone in her family...but dang that would just SUCK!

CliffsNotes, you are incorrect :)

Marie I def see Arya becoming a skilled face-less assassin. I feel she will def meet up with the remaining Starks and Dany. I also very much believe that right before this all happens she will find her wolf Nymeria. I really think that their will be an alliance between Targ & Stark (especially with the THEORY'S of Jon being Rhegar & Lyanna's son). i TRULY BELIEVE it will be the wolfs and the dragons will be the rulers of not only the seven kingdoms of the westroes but beyond the wall and places like Bravos.(My Theory) I feel Dany & Arya and Jon have this nobility to them. This passion for the greater good.

There is so much GRRM can end up doing and you never know what to expect. Hopefully he will not destroy my favorite Character Arya!! I will be so upset. Winds of Winter can not get here fast enough.

Eyehavenofilter Josh wrote: "i can't for the life of me guess why you would skip chapters of a book"

I agree, no matter how insignificant or tedious they may be there is always some little tidbit that you can glean from that chapter that will add to the story. The Greyjoys are SO not interesting to me either but they are in the story for a reason...i can't imagine why except as another example of really bad parenting...or dysfunctional family dynamics L

message 70: by Jon (new) - rated it 4 stars

Jon The Greyjoys will play an important role, trust me :)

Marie I could see Arya has a hand but I could also being a knight like Brienne. Maybe just maybe.

Marie really don't think that Stannis wil be on the Throne. I think Stannis will ever or was able to ever actually get it. I also don't think he truly wants it. I feel he will be the Next Lord Commander of the Wall.

I actually can see the Onion Knight, Ser Davos as King. King Davos will be a pretty interesting sight. I think he has the right heart and mind for it.

I eventually don't think Dany will want it once she gets to the Seven Kingdoms. I think Dany will ended up being a great Lord of like Harrenhal. It has dragon history or Dragonstone where Stannis was staying at for sometime.

I would also love to see Tyrion being King but I really feel that would up being like Robert but you never know. I honestly think that Tyrion will be the rightful Lord of CASTLELY ROCK.

I believe that the Stark children will be the lords of all the north including beyond the wall. Winterfell I believe will be Jon's because I think Bran will be Lord of beyond the wall because of his powers. Rickon take over White Harbor. Arya I can see her being the kings hand. Sanasa maybe ruler of the Vale with Briene of Tarth as her knight guard!

I think Ser Davos would make a great king.He is from fleabottom, not a royal and has heart. The common people would follow him.

Right? And totally unexpected!

In A Clash of Kings, Arya seems to warg. She dreams of being a wolf, much like Jon. There's no one to tell Arya that she's a warg so that's still up in the air. Bran had Jojen telling him he's a warg; a wilding comments that Jon's a warg but nothing more.

message 76: by [deleted user] (new)

I could see Arya as a future Hand. But that takes diplomacy and that's not her.Maybe a royal assassin or possibly kingsgaurd.

Eyehavenofilter Ted wrote: "Rickon, along with Bran, saw in his dreams that his father [spoilers removed]. That also suggests some warging potential."

If warning means ESP than I'm all for that shazzizzle!

message 78: by Maki (new) - rated it 4 stars

Maki Adum I could definitely see King Davos happening, and I love that idea. I've always been more in favor of Stannis over Daenerys, but only because I always supposed his hand would be Ser Davos, and that would be perfect for Westeros, in my opinion.

But making Ser Davos himself the king sounds like a great choice, and as some of you said, totally unexpected.

I'm also with you on the whole Greyjoys chapters thing. They are absolutely painful to read, but I do so anyway because I don't thing GRRM is writing them if they won't play an important part in the future (I really hope they do. They are so very boring, so I hope they have a point at least).

Aaaand back to the topic of Arya, I think the whole Faceless Assassin thing is pretty awesome and will play a bigger role in the future. I hope she's involved in one of the people in her prayers death (I had hoped it would be Joffrey... but well... Cersei would do). Although, it would be interesting if, in the end, they all die without her having to do anything with it. I'm just speculating, because at this point, who the hell knows what paths this story will take.

I would like for Arya to go back to being herself. I know she's compromised to being 'no one', but being such a great character, I feel it would be a waste for her to just become "no one". I really hope all this skills she's learning will ultimately lead her to some event where she is forced back into her own self (if that makes any sense). It could be being ordered to kill Jon, or Cersei, or anyone with a link to her past. But, I just hope she doesn't end up actually killing Jon.

I would also LOVE for her to meet up again with Gendry. I believed and still do that this relationship will play some important (if not major) part of the story. GRRM had a pretty huge set up for the whole relationship, and we did have a glimpse of Gendry's bitterness from the Brienne POV chapters. So I just don't see this being put aside and forgotten.

infael I'd like to see Arya kill Gregor Clegane. Clegane's just survived too many attempts to kill him. Time for him to get his comeuppance and what better way than from little Arya Underfoot?

Heck, the other day, I was thinking about how I would kill Clegane. I'd have to pick my battlefield very carefully (a field leading to a tall hill), cover the field and hill with traps (shallow pitfalls and small holes) as I think slowing down Clegane is the key. He needs to be kept at distance and feathered with many many arrows.

I considered caltrops but decided they wouldn't work as Clegane always wears plate armor. I'd kill his horse first, to put him on foot. The hill would have a trench with spikes and spikes above the trench, to force Clegane to have to pull them out in order to get out of the trench and climb the mountain. Archers would keep shooting and retreating up the hill. Maybe mounted archers to keep clegane climbing. His attitude would probably be "kill as many as I can before I die". Encourage him to keep moving forward and never stop shooting.

THis plan could be fleshed out more but I didn't treat it as a serious exercise, more of a "what if" thing.

Melissa Herston I believe Arya will play a larger role as time passes by. I was thinking she may get kicked out of the order when it is discovered she is warging but not before she acquires what she needs to bring her story line to completion.

I think many people in this thread are hoping for a happy ending. This is GRRM. There is no happy endings. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Anyone who tries for the throne will end up corrupted. Dany is already corrupted in little ways in my opinion. That is the problem with power. Choosing between two evils is never a good choice.

Just my opinion. Take it or leave it for what it is worth.

message 81: by [deleted user] (new)

You may be on to something with the happy ending.
But I still have faith in the people down south, the sand snakes,I think the family name is Martell,I don't remember.

infael Sometimes I think Arya will return to Westeros and find Nymeria and her horde of wolves. I, of course, am assuming Arya can't warg over the distance or over water.

Are you referring to the new Clegane (RS), or a hypothetical situation wherein whatever happened to Clegane never happened?

Remember, when Arya was in the House of Black and White and had her eyesight taken away, she entered the mind of a cat hiding in the rafters to be able to see the Kindly Man. I think this implies Arya is aware of her warging abilities and is not afraid to use them.
