Changing Primary Edition

I recently added alternate covers for a couple of my books, and I really would like the new covers rather than the old ones representing those books.

I noticed there is a link on the edit page that says, "Set this book as the primary edition for this work." Is it okay to switch the primary edition? I don't want to break any rules and would like the go-ahead before I proceed.
