I'm enjoying seeing additional song suggestions.

I'm afraid, I'm rather bad at that, since my usual taste in music is not exactly fitting here ;)

However, this one here is one of my favourites - although I still have no idea what these guys are talking about ;D

The Funeral by Band of Horses

And:
Spiders by System of a Down

I like Band of Horses. I don't think I'd previously heard of System of a Down. That's a neat song.

I didn't know Band of Horses until I stumbled over this video Danny MacAskill
which is very very impressive in its own right. I just can't understand what these guys are singing. And, honestly, reading the lyrics doesn't really help ;)

If you enjoy System of a Down: This is probably their most famous song, it's quite a bit 'harder', though: Chop Suey by System of a Down

I also like Toxicity by System of a Down

ETA: I've just watched the Danny MacAskill video again - that bloke is doing things with his bike that shouldn't be physically possible. Seriously incredible.

Matthias Williamson (matthiasw) | 340 comments System of a Down was always my go to scream at the world music. When I was having a terrible time at work or life, I'd play it loud on my radio and sing loud and proud and didn't care if anyone heard. Because the windows were always down and I drove fast.

Me too. I love Baroque, some opera (Mozart especially), also a mix of punk and alternative, and otherwise I can be all over the place. I think we'd enjoy mixing it up here.

Time to start putting together the playlist for Fair Play. I haven't listened to as much music as usual during this one. Or at least, a lot of my yoga and massage music -- which might not make for the best play list.

Any songs that remind you of Elliot and Tucker?

Maybe a least one song that shows something of the 60's youthful anger. So this is not an Elliot and Tucker song, but a nice contemporary cover of the Bob Dylan anthem, Masters of War sung by Ed Sheeran.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aHMlA...

Then there's Country Joe and the Fish at Woodstock (before SDS and others decided war couldn't be sung away).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xuUBC...

OMG, that audience is young. Now most of them would be a little older than me. I have an odd little memory of doing that chant out loud with my friends and singing along — in Albuquerque! We were extras in a film that I don't remember ever being released, but CJ performed for the shoot in a local drive-in movie lot. : )

And I remember myself listening to that. ( thus I show my age) ;)

Our guide played it for us in Vietnam, when we visited the tunnels. Brought me back to that time. It was such a big political issue even in far off Norway, I can't begin to understand how it must have been in the U.S.

It's really strange listening to so many of these songs.

I could almost do two playlists. A retro play list and a current playlist.

I did listen to a wider variety of music for this story. In this case the music was part of the research.

Nice, Valerie.

Here's mine (though it's definitely a song that's more appropriate for the situation at the beginning of Fair Game than the end) :

Today when we were driving home from Sweden we listened to hubby's "starred" Spotify list and there was this song that made me think of Elliot and Tucker. And after seeing the Fair Play book trailer yesterday I assume that this might even fit well with some other nuances and memories from the past?

No Name by Ryan O'Shaughnessy

I admit picking the songs for the playlist, sorting through the possibilities (which this time were enormous because I listened to so much vintage rock and folk) is one of the most relaxing and enjoyable parts of preparing a book launch. :-)
