Everybody thought The Mortal Instruments were only going to be a trilogy too. You never know!

Bethany Dowling Imho tho I think that there will not be a fourth book (at least not in Lena's point of view.) I loved this series but this book was definitely the worst book! There needed to be more Alex (Alex and Lena are my OTP <3) and I hated Julian, and sometimes Hana's point of view was a lot more interesting than Lena's. (view spoiler) one thing I did love about this book, was the occurrence of Annabel (Lena's mother). I want to know what happens Portland! The ending was very incomplete and I hope Lauren Oliver makes more books to continue it (or another novella. Julian's story maybe?) I just really hate open endings. Like Reached's ending (Matched trilogy.) And I still really want to know what happened to Hana! In the next book I hope there is a way to uncure so Lena can cure her sister Rachel (view spoiler) and Hana. If there is not I am going to be so fucking pissed off... but this series was AMAZING other than the fact that Lauren Oliver could have done so much more for the ending but chose to do an open ending. She is an amazing author and I know that she definitely has some damn good talent! I loved this series because I never heard of anything like this series before, it intrigued me. I can remember when I got to the end of the first book, and i was in shock! And then Pandemonium ended on such a cliffhanger. I was in bed and when I finished it I threw the book (sorry book ;-;) and ran around the house screaming "OMFG ALEX IS ALIVE MY HEART IS UNBROKEN NO MORE JULIAN YAYAYAYAYAYAY!" ...and then I read the beginning of Requiem. All in all I would rate this book four out of five stars. If it had a more a complete ending I would have give it a better rating (4.5 out of 5 stars at most tho)

Jayne Everyone is complaining about the ending of the story and honeslty, I was at first too. But after thinking it over for a while, I've realized that I actually love that she left some things untied and unknown. I think what she was trying to say was that life is constant battle and there is never a definite happy ending and conclusion, but rather we just gotta keep fighting and hoping everything will come out the way we want and , what was it that she said, "take down the walls"? hahaha. Yeah I mean I know it was cliche and all but honestly, we know she will choose Alex(eventhough I'm pretty sure we really knew that th entire series)and we know that HAna broke free of her sick, twisted, guy and is now going to fight to take down her own walls. Its also nice because now us, as readers, can have these endless possibilities of what would happen in this world and can have this book live on in our mind by constantly thinking of the millions of ways it could fall out. SO basically what I'm trying to say, is that writing a fourth book would be a huge mistake on her part because the message she sent out by ending the book that way was brilliant and very unique.

Sofia The Great I would be happy with a novella.

mrsandersonreads I just finished this. I am gutted that she has not given us a definite ending. I agree with Jayne to some extent...but I'm afraid I want a solid conclusion. I want book 4, all neat and tidy and final!

Ashlyn Okay, I contacted the author through goodreads asking this same question, because I was sort of let down by the ending, too. She said that no she will not be making more books for this series. She continued to explain her reason, being that she became a writer through reading books that had relatively open ending which allowed her imagination to run and continue the story herself. Basically unpublished fan-fiction lead to her becoming a successful author after many years. Lauren Oliver wanted to give her readers the ability to reach their imagination and create stories to end others. Going into this trilogy Oliver wanted to show her readers something new about themselves by leaving an open ending to these books. Hopefully I have answered your question, if you want it to be explained by Lauren Oliver herself then find her on goodreads because she has a link to a video of her talking about this issue.

Katie My goodness I hope so!! Seriously... I mean I get it, the metaphor of pushing down the wall is a great way to end. but I was so unsatisfied with Lena's choice. Like seriously!! NO!! Alex left you, he is not the same person (yeah I know he was tortured for like 6 months but that doesn't matter)! Julian is perfect and gave up everything he was taught and everything he knew to be with her. And the fact that she kisses Alex just pissed me off. I was also TEAM JULIAN so that might be why! But still...

Stephanie Costa I loved all the 3 books and I am actually quite satisfied with the ending. Neither do Lena, Alex or Julian die and from that last kiss and what Lena says after it, I imagine she will end up with Alex. It always good when the author gives you a clear happy ending but honestly. I like it better that way than someone dying or a really really quick "happy" ending like The Hunger Games (Obviously loved the books but I just wished that last paragraph lasted for a whole chapter).

Follow my book review blog :)
Book Roller Coaster

Autumn I actually emailed her after I finsihed the book. And she responded the next day saying that she had no plans on continuing the series :(

message 60: by Amy (new) - rated it 4 stars

Amy I hate the end, never said with woh she ends up, i can't choose between them, i think Julian, i don't konw.
But i REALLY HATE THE END
I CAN'T RECOMEND THIS AWESOME BOOK BECAUSE OF THE STUPID END!!!
Sorry, is just that i get sensitive jajaja
it's kidding

Julia I was SO angry at the ending... and now we won't even get closure with the TV show... the pilot failed. Grr...

Kaitlin favreau I want another couple of book I want to know what happens to the wall who will she choose and what happens to graces

Tanya I don't know if I would want a whole fourth book, but I felt like this book needed at least another chapter or two for the ending to feel proper. I understand that the author wanted this ending to be left to the imagination.. but this is TOO open for me to handle. I would have liked at least some of the major plot lines to have a definite ending.

Katrina Jay She did a Q & A several months back and she said no. She left it open hoping the reader would use their own imaginations to come up their own endings to the story. As of right now she has zero intentions on writing another book for this specific series.

message 65: by Indy (new) - rated it 3 stars

Indy Total cliff hanger. I hope she makes another book.

Jylah but does anyone thought about Raven being pregnant on the Delirium Stories and dying on Requiem? Because I literally bawled when I came to that realization.

Milla Ilieva I liked the end. Now everybody can make the end they like. I'm on team Julian, but i like Alex too so i like the end. :)

message 68: by ASRA (new)

ASRA JAWIAD hey i was a little depressed by this open end in the beginning but later i realised she gave us the chance to make our own ending. Nothing is final and thus everything is possible. I imagined Alex and Lena are together Julian and Coral become friends and Grace finds a MOTHER in Annabel.... HANA will find herself in the goverment making new laws for a better world. THE BEST ENDING EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tashyypoo ****WARNING, CONTAINS SPOILERS****

^^^^If you haven't read this book yet, then I highly suggest you stop reading RIGHT NOW!

Ok so to me- The Delirium Trilogy was absolutely amazing, I can relate to the characters in this book so much and I just think Lauren Oliver is an amazing writer. All 3 books were captivating from the beginning to end and I was having withdrawal symptoms from the second I had to put it down.

Idk if Its just me, but DOES ANYBODY ELSE HAVE A DEEP EMOTIONAL ATTATCHMENT TO THIS BOOK? LIKE I HAVE NEVER CRIED SO MUCH AND BEEN SO ATTATCHED TO CHARACTERS IN ANY OTHER BOOK BEFORE. Like, honestly I can't be the only one.

As amazing as this book was, I know many have, and will agree with me when I say that I was more than let down by the open ending of this book. It was kinda funny though, like I was down to around the last 30 pages or so of the book and I was like "oh my god no, please, pleaaaaaaaaaaaase don't be an open ending, bish you better explain everything in these last 30 pages.... DON'T DO THIS TO ME." And what happened. An open ending of course.

I don't think Lauren understands how much emotional pain people like myself are in, I think I'm speaking for a lot of people right now lol. Like what happened to Tack and the rest of the crew, WILL LENA END UP WITH JULIEN OR ALEX- WHEN WILL THIS LOVE TRIANGLE END????? And what happens after they take down the walls?!?!?!?!? I didn't see a lot of people commenting this but is anybody else wondering where Hana ends up? And if Fred dies? Even though there was a lot of unfinished business between Hana and Lena, you could tell that they were still glad to see each other, and whether Hana realises it or not, did love Lena at one stage in her life, and if the cure didn't work correctly as she feared, still probably does love Lena somewhere deep down inside her.

How I would like the book to end is that love and freedom will win (as we are assuming due to the end of the book talking about "tearing down the walls") and "Zombieland" will be a thing of the past. They re-build the cities and towns and communities and social structures, to create a harmonious, peaceful, place. Alex and Lena end up together and make beautiful mini Alex and Lena babies hahaha. Julien, so he's not left out, may end up with Coral? (I feel sad for him as Lena was his first love but, Lena's heart will always belong to Alex I believe). Hana finds her way in life and her and Lena regain the friendship and closeness they once had. FRED DIES LOL. And tbh that Cassie has a good life, she didn't deserve what Fred put her through. The rest of the Crew, including Lena's mother, have stayed safe, (since Lauren didn't mention anything about their safety at the end).

Even though the open ending is paining me, and I will probably never get over this book lol, I still LOVE the Idea of an open ending-as there are so many possible endings, and Lauren has left it entirely up to us-our imaginations. That's the beauty of it. I still reaaaaaaaaaaaaallllllllllllllyyyyyyyyyyy hope she makes a fourth book to finish it though. (because lets face it, the reaaaaal ending will never be known unless Lauren sets it in stone for us XD)

I neeeeeeededddddd to get this out of my system so if you read thankyouuuu lmao. Also, please let me know if I stated anything that was incorrect! It was sometimes a bit difficult to understand what was always happening, and where to focus your attention to in this book haha. Thanks :))))))))))

Tashyypoo ASRA wrote: "hey i was a little depressed by this open end in the beginning but later i realised she gave us the chance to make our own ending. Nothing is final and thus everything is possible. I imagined Alex ..."

yesssssssssssss totally agree! especially about Grace finding Mother in Annabel!

ashrey I thought the ending was fine and it really doesn't matter if they don't make another book even though i LOVED the first and second book the last book didn't leave me in suspense or even capture my heart it just stuck as a random book that i read. As she felt something for Alex but now feels something for Julian i didn't like the way she swiched i felt like screaming CHOOSE girl and she had a problem with letting GO even though i have a lot of bad things to say i'll say ONE good thing about her in this book she was strong sort of. And i am coming to agree with my cousin who once said to me that LAST book the author writes is the Worst part of the series even though this saying does not apply to ALL books it definitely applied to this last one.

But I HATE the ending I just can't deal with this "open end" stuff it really annoys me 'cause I soooo hoped she'd choose Alex D:"

I feel the same way but I truly believe she choose Alex. He was and is her one true love!

ashrey Um I like Jullian at least he didn't INSULT her

Alexandra This series had me captivated, right until the end. Nothing was answered. This cannot even be considered an ending. If you're going to have a love triangle, at least have a resolution to it. The world was so complicated, then BANG, fire, Hana rebels, Hana seemingly disappears from the face of the world, no one is in charge, Julian's still dying from a tumor, we don't even know if Hana successfully killed Fred, we don't know what happens to Lana's family and there are literally no answers to anything. VERY disappointed, and I would never consider reading this series again unless there is actually an ending.

message 75: by A (new) - rated it 3 stars

A Ok i REALLY don't care about Alex and Lena, it just that

1. What will Julian do? He was there for Lena but she leave him just like that? After all these time??
2. What is going to happen to Hana after she left?
3. What the heck is that country going to be after the attack? They only break a single city! What about the president and the rest city?

ashrey 1. I don't like Lena.
2. Julian is a sweet boy and deserves more then too have his heart broken by Lena.
3. Lena is very weak and is rarely strong.
4. Alex is a piece of dung & can't make up his mind.
5. Lena GROW UP!

message 77: by Isha (new) - added it

Isha Yeah the ending is not at all satisfying... I mean there's no idea what happened to lena alex and Julian. ..? What happened after the wall went down or who won ? What happened to Rachel or Fred? At least there could have been an epilogue

message 78: by Sav (new) - added it

Sav Honestly, though when I was reading I wasn't satisfied with the ending, however after attempting to read a fan made ending, I was very dissapointed and it ruined it for me, so props to you Lauren Oliver, I have come around to liking the ending.

message 79: by Anna (new)

Anna I really wish there was a book 4 i read the second book in one day it was so good! When i read the ending of it i said i need the next book now!!! I think that julian is gonna die from his tumor then coral will get really sick and lena finds alex again and they kiss and kiss then they get married and have kids then the zombies notice what the wilds are like and htey join each other tht would be a good ending!!!!!!

Willi Hasch I wish there could at least be a side story written about a side character that vaguely explains what happened to everyone. Example: A.G Howard finished her splintered trilogy but then wrote a book containing short stories that finished the ending.

Jasmine Jocelyn wrote: "I was really disappointed by the outcome of the story. I felt like there was no conclusion and really no reason for Ms. Oliver to write this book.
Upon reading Pandemonium, I was excited to see ho..."

yea, that's what I thought was going to happen

message 82: by Prateekee (new)

Prateekee Chatterjee Lauren lost it. No conclusion about Raven. Neither about Julian and Alex- the whole whom-she'll-choose thingy!!?
What happened to Hana?
What happened to Portland?
How did her editor approve to print the book with such a hurriedly jostled up ending??!!!
What a great series .... only to end like this. -_-

message 83: by Akbar (new)

Akbar Just like everyone else I was really disappointed with the ending. It was building and building and then suddenly it went thud. Without reaching a crescendo. I don’t care about what happened with Julian and Alex. I thought somewhere Lauren would converge the POVs of Hana and Lena and they’ll have more of a story than just one chapter. They had so much to figure out and discuss. I just wished there was more about them together.

message 84: by Anna (new) - added it

Anna I was really disappointed by the ending because I expected Lena to choose either Alex or Julian. I like when books end neatly - all wrapped up with the ts crossed and the is dotted.
I was also upset that there was no mention of what happened to Hana. Did she meet up with the resistance and join it? Maybe the fact that she left Fred to die (Did he even die, anyway?) meant that she was becoming a sympathizer.
Whenever a book ends *Cringe* open-ended, I always imagine that it finished exactly the way I wanted it to. However, I'm not exactly sure what I want to happen between Lena, Julian, and Alex. I am sure that I want Hana to join the resistance.
I enjoyed the book series, but the ending made me want to throw it across the room (which was hard to do because I read it online).

message 85: by kitap.asigi777 (new)
