Requiem Buddy Read!

Wow, so excited that our buddy read thread exploded!!! Now I just have to actually finish Requiem so I can read all the spoilers!!! You guys are all amazing for joining in! I can't wait to see what everyone's thoughts are!

I would love to read Unravel Me with Jen and Jenny and anyone else who wants to join in. David and I have been talking about buddy reading Hunger for a while too! And I think there's a few for Boundless, it looks like. I haven't read any from that series yet but you guys go for it!!

So many books, so little time!! Hahahah... I'm off to read more of Requiem!

I already read Requiem and I have very mixed emotions about it, that ending, ugh, I just want an epilogue. I don't feel that is too much to ask for! But I would love to read Unwind! I have that book sitting in my currently reading list (but plan to start in the next couple days).

I am happy to see there are others who liked it more. I did give it a 4, just didn't think it was as good as the first two.

Finished! I loved loved loved it and really loved the ending! I'm rating this a 4.5 (5 on GR). My thoughts (view spoiler)[First of all, I'm so happy that Lena reunited with her mom and they became close again.

Julian... he just never really fit in with any of it; Lena, the Wild, the resistance, any of it. Without Lena, he was pretty much nothing. I did like that he was breaking the wall at the end, by himself , which told me that he found what he was seeking and because he was alone, he didn't need Lena.

Hana, wow...! I really liked her chapters. I also loved that she blew up Fred! And I expect she'll wander off and become her own person now rather than what everyone else expects her to be. Yea, she appeared to have given up, but I don't really think she did. I think she would have figured out a way to stop Fred, or kill herself rather than live that life. Hey, the author said she ended this book in the way she did so we could continue with our own stories. That's what I'm doing! ;)

Alex... I agree with Jenny and Jen on that one. He gets one time of being butt hurt and saying something really stupid. Lena was a bit stupid for believing him. I like how their story ended and I imagine them living happily ever after.

Raven... I didn't read her short story so didn't really feel a connection to her. I knew someone would have to die. I was sad for her and Tack, but I didn't like how they used Lena in book 2 so for whatever reason, I wasn't teary eyed when she died.

Lena... She found Grace! Grace and her mom! And she got the boy!

Aww yayyyy!! I'm so glad you liked it! I agree with everything you said (especially the bits about Raven although like you, I didn't read the novella), except the thing about Alex's response to Lena's attempt to get moving back in the same direction. It's funny that in the only one who thinks Alex was completely in the wrong there and I'm a guy haha! For me it was just because I thought Lauren Oliver wrote Lena's speech so beautifully there that I found myself tearing up and my heart swelling and then Alex totally shut her down and didn't even act like it was a hard thing to do. I was like Argfhghrhggrggfr!!!!

I actually loved the ending. Although there were some small things that could've been done better to build more up to the ending.

COMPLETELY agree about Julian. And David - my husband would never be anything like Alex either. He'd probably say the same thing as you! I got the best one ever : )

I agree with everything but Raven, but I read the short story, which was really good! I didn't really like Raven in Pandemonium at all either!

Most of the time I like to make comments that are funny, snarky, or just plain weird. However, for this book I will write like I have some sense.
Alex: very frustrating character who broke my heart over and over. I understood his actions although it did not ease the pain of them.
Lena: love her! Smacking the **** out of Hana made my day.
Hana: at first I didn't like reading about her, but as the book progressed I realized the necessity of it. What she ended up doing at the end gained her pimp status in my book.
Julian: kept drawing the short straw, poor guy.
Everyone else had a role and played it even if it was tragic, brave, or just plain stupid.
Oliver did not end the book in a traditional sense. What she did instead was transfer power and complete control to her readers. We are able to make what we want to happen, whatever ending brings us the greatest joy and satisfaction. Personally, Lena and Alex ended up together and I was able to envision a beautiful reunion all on my own. For others, they wanted it in print. I think if their reunion had been in print I'd have given it 5 stars. Xoxo everyone and off to the next buddy read. P.S.-David we appreciate you too and think you're awesome! :)
