This stunning debut captures the grotesque madness of a mystical under-land, as well as a girl’s pangs of first love and independence. Alyssa Gardner hears the whispers of bugs and flowers—precisely the affliction that landed her mother in a mental hospital years before. This family curse stretches back to her ancestor Alice Liddell, the real-life inspiration for Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Alyssa might be crazy, but she manages to keep it together. For now.
When her mother’s mental health takes a turn for the worse, Alyssa learns that what she thought was fiction is based in terrifying reality. The real Wonderland is a place far darker and more twisted than Lewis Carroll ever let on. There, Alyssa must pass a series of tests, including draining an ocean of Alice’s tears, waking the slumbering tea party, and subduing a vicious bandersnatch, to fix Alice’s mistakes and save her family. She must also decide whom to trust: Jeb, her gorgeous best friend and secret crush, or the sexy but suspicious Morpheus, her guide through Wonderland, who may have dark motives of his own.

(view spoiler)[ I loved the characters in this book. It was very easy to fall in love with Alyssa, Jeb and even Morpheus. The twists and turns in the plot were well done. The fact that Alyssa is actually the descendant of Queen Red instead of Alice is an awesome twist that leaves alot of room for character developement in books to follow. I'm also glad that after everything Morpheus came through for her. There is potential of redemtion in the series for his character that I hope happens. Over all very impressed with it and can wait to see where the series goes. (hide spoiler)]
(view spoiler)[I also loved the characters in this book! The whole story just came alive for me. It was like a dark, twisted, grown-up version of Alice in Wonderland! I really loved Jeb.. he was absolutely adorable. I am glad Morpheus finally came through, but I am still not convinced. I find myself hoping, like you, that he redeems himself in the next book. On the other hand, I still dislike him for everything he did before the ending. Especially, for allowing the whole trapping of Jeb happen! (hide spoiler)]
