I know all about Theodora, as well as Justinian, and how her very racy, humble beginnings were a shock to the Byzantine world. Sounds like a good one. Have you ever read The Gentle Infidel, a novel about he fall of Constantinople in 1453/

No, I stuck pretty closely to the 6th century sources in my research. But I'm reading a lot of historical fiction now, so I'll check it out. I know that Greeks still cry at the "loss" of Constantinople and that the deciding battle was very dramatic. The legend is that priests vaporized into the altar of the Hagia Sophia when the city fell and that they'll only reappear when the Greek Orthodox church is reinstated. I wouldn't hold my breath on that one.
