Oh, I must have payed over £20 in library fees in my life. The thing is they don't charge late fees when you're under 16 so when I turned 16 it was such a shock to my system, I just couldn't bring them back on time. Now three years later I try and be good, but mainly because I have set it up so they email me a few days before it's due to remind me.

I am terrible too and I used to send those letters demanding money out . Oops !!

I hear ya...I try so hard to not return books late because I know that I hate waiting for a book that I desperately want to read and the person that has it out brings it back late....So I always feel guilty when I take a book back late!!!

Frozenwaffle I have a terrible record at my library too, for returning books late... Somehow I end up forgeting on the day its due and end up taking it back 1 or 2 days late.

But I really try to make it right, because they have a horrible punishment: they don't make us pay a fee, they "ground us" to being unable to request a book for a minimum period of a WEEK. :O I am currently in the middle of a grounding session. =/ *hangs head in shame*

Louise Woah! That's harsh. I'm quite good with getting books back to the public library on time, but the fees I racked up at the university library as an undergrad... Yikes!

Aprox £1 per day late for each book. I had to pay over £20 when returning a single batch of books on at least two ocassions while I was there.

It seems I am not alone then! I find it so strange as I am super organised and rarely late, so to consistently give library books back late, it boggles the mind!!!

I haven't borrowed from the uni library. Firstly there isn't a fiction section (none that I found anyway) and also I haven't needed books for my studying. The library is so huge though, I have probably seen 2% of it.

Bev (greenginger) | 137 comments Secret life of bees done now on to Angela's ashes number 17.

message 60: by Bev (new)

Bev (greenginger) | 137 comments Right Angela's Ashes finished. Now I might read something light and fluffy and let my brain cool down.

message 61: by [deleted user] (new)

I would be soo lost if I couldn't request a book!! Our library is really good...as long as the fine is under 10 dollars you can pay in installments and they still let you borrow books!!!

Our library is fairly cheap so I am not complaining.

So is mine, it's something like 10p per day per book, but if you've got say 7 books out and they are a week late, then you will get £4.90.

Though a few months back they did this thing where for some unknown reason they cleared everyone's fines and I took full advantage of that!

message 64: by [deleted user] (new)

Lol...yea they do that here too when they update the system...wish they would do that now.....sigh....10 dollars in late fees because of my stupid memory :{

Pretty cool, huh?!

message 76: by Bev (new)

Bev (greenginger) | 137 comments Nicolle wrote: "What was it about and why was it so bad?"

It was about a 90 year old lady called Hagar who lives in Canada. She has dementia and lives with her son and daughter in law. She keeps having flashbacks to her youth. She is an obnoxious person and seems to feel nothing for her so called loved ones. The writing is very dry and the author had a nasty way of just shoving in new characters without explaining them first. Really pointless and boring.

Ah, think I will avoid that one then.
