Lonely inventor Terry “Gadget” Anders spends most of his time in his garage nerding out and trying to create real-life versions of the stuff in his comic books…with mixed results. What he needed was a little adventure in his life . . . but when his cosplaying friends “Buffy” and “Angelus" drag him out of the house to a local sci-fi convention, he runs into more adventure than he bargained for, in the form of the beautiful and equally nerdy Dizzy . . . and sparks fly like there’s an overloaded Tesla Coil. But Gadget’s new crush is full of secrets, and some of them are dangerous.
When people start dying at the convention, Gadget gets sucked into Dizzy’s crazy-chaotic world of aliens, time travel, and mind-melting psionic powers. If he can’t put the truth together fast, then the mysteries his femme fatale hides might wind up killing him and his friends, too! Hey, nobody ever said new relationships are easy . . . but if he plays his Magic card right, Gadget just might be able to win the girl and help save the world just in time to catch the big celebrity panel at the con. Put on your best cosplay and tune-up your guitars folks, ‘cause this is gonna be the best RetCon EVER!

Corinne is brought up by her single mother in a run-down, privately-rented flat in Causewayhead, Stirling, Scotland. The flat is shared with a successive number of people including a single parent on the dole and Corinne’s mother’s friends include revolutionary socialists and drug dealers.
The flatmates Corinne and her mother share with shape Corinne’s environment and outlook. The book follows the changes in her mother’s bohemian lifestyle and her gradual and maps Corinne’s growing awareness of separateness from her mother and her increasing maturity as she develops her own values and a greater awareness of the society she lives in.
‘Causewayhead’ has many moments of humour as well as tragedy. Ultimately uplifting it is a story of courage in the face of adversity and survival against all the odds.
You can find 'Causewayhead' (by Alexis Scott) on Amazon. It was written about ten years ago and inspired by my own life in Stirling with a young child in a flat with dry rot, very little money and a drunken landlord. that said, all the characters are, of course, ficititious!

I have read all the posts in this group and have already noted books by Abby, Steven, and Katie for both me and my elder daughter to read. I hope someone here will be interested in my fantasy work. Here are very brief descriptions of all three; I will post at greater length on each separately over the next few days. All are suitable for age 14 and up.
The Pearl Singer: A radically different version of Thumbelina, retold in the sense that Gail Carson Levine retells Cinderella and Snow White, building completely new characters and a new story on the barest bones of a familiar tale.
The Black Stag: A pretty classical fantasy with some very cool magic.
The Sword and the Tear: A dark and complex fantasy. Sad stuff happens.

"These short stories do indeed feature people desperate to seek love. Told in a journalistic style, the tales seem to feature actual people and have a great, slight cattiness to them -perhaps a result of one heroine's own whims and tastes. It has a touch of Candace Bushnell about it," - Heraclitus.

All three of my books are set in the same world, but the stories are not connected to each other, and there is no order to them. As with my other two books, you can get the paperback or Kindle version from Amazon or ask your local bookstore to order the paperback for you.
These three paragraphs are the back cover text:
Trained from childhood as an Othanite warrior, dedicated to Othan, the god of war, Heth is completely prepared for the battle to deliver Prince Rommorik’s wife from the enemy, King Evander. He is not, however, prepared for King Evander’s sister, Fia. He is not prepared for the resurrection of his past, for the hope of revenge, for destruction, for salvation, or for love.
Playing the decoy as Rommorik’s wife, Fia is not prepared for battle at all. She is not prepared for an Othanite warrior or for learning the power of the garnet charm, Sebec’s Tear, that was left to her by her mother. And she is not prepared for an unlikely alliance, a desperate rescue attempt, or a confrontation with the deadly, frozen Sword of Harrow.
In the unexpected war that engulfs them, Heth and Fia face hardship, pain, and loss. They must grapple with the history of the Sword and the Tear and the events of their own youth that shaped their lives and brought them together. And ultimately, they must confront the fears and secrets inside themselves in order to survive.

Time travel is a naturally occurring phenomenon, and the aged scientist, Stanley Graf, has discovered it in a planetary black hole in northern Delaware. Only those in his inner circle know of the existence of time travel. When Stanley falls ill, it is left to his 28-year-old granddaughter, Leigh, a psychology doctorate graduate, to await the latest black hole event. When the traveler turns out to be 28-year-old runaway slave, Harriet Tubman, everything Leigh thought she knew about her grandfather’s theory and research turns out to be more than she ever thought possible. With the aid of her brother, Stan, an FBI agent in D.C., she slowly uncovers a world of secrets and mystery. Just when Leigh is certain she has uncovered all, new secrets slowly unravel to the very end.
EXCERPT:
"The music slightly faded into the background when Harriet opened her eyes to behold a tiny, ragged cottage of eroding wooden logs. It rested grimly in the shadows, shrouded by a thick, eerie fog. She approached it cautiously, wondering how such a gloomy place could exist when there was such jovial music cascading through the trees.
Then another tune sailed towards her, assaulting her in its harshness. It was a mixture of booming fierceness and high-pitched terror that loomed behind the cottage. Her feet led her, floating through space, until she found herself entombed in the gloom and the dread.
The moon was high and full in the velvety black sky, its brightness drowning the distant light of its jeweled neighbors. Harriet followed the beam of moonlight that spotlighted a scene before her. She opened her mouth to scream, but the instrumental chorus drowned her voice. She struggled to run, but her feet were solidly planted in the soil, sinking, yet floating. Her face writhed with the efforts of a piercing yell, and still no sound escaped her parted lips."

Thanks! As this is my first go around I am both excited and hesitant at the same time. Happy New Year everyone.

I am a psycholgist who has worked with military personnel and veterans over the past 20 years. I served in the military, so I did not want to write yet another clinical review of trauma. I wanted readers to feel what solders feel as they see themselves unravel, as they encounter the formal mental health system, and as they try to find a way forward in the face of rigid bureaucracies. The book is an effort to answer a central question - How do we support these soldiers to find their way back home?
"The story of Master Corporal Billy Reardon is an intimate portrayal of his journey from young man to mentally wounded military veteran. We see the world through his eyes as the toll of his deployments mount and as he struggles within the mental health system. We also see him find recovery and reconnection to the military brotherhood along with other veterans. Billy’s story raises questions about the roles of front-line leadership and challenges health providers to develop an intimate understanding of military culture as a prerequisite to assisting traumatized veterans and their families."
Testimonials
"No matter what our backgrounds in the military or as first responders, this book will let people know that they are not alone" -Craig Leonard, Canadian Army, retired
"A must read for NCOs and senior staff to help them understand what my brothers-in-arms are going through" -Veteran, Canadian soldier
"This story is real! It is engaging and while average Canadians may think that these things do not happen but I know that they do happen."

My name is Jon and I am a first-time self-published author.
I recently released my debut book, 'Immersion and Other Tales of Depravity," a short horror collection containing one novella and five short stories.
By day, I work in communications, coming off of 12 years in journalism.
This is my first published work of fiction, however, and I'm simply trying to get the word out since I've been told by those who have read it that it's worth the time and investment.
Here's the link. Feel free to offer feedback. I look forward to being part of this forum:

His Life Abiding (2013). The new kid in the foster home has some strange phobias and an uncanny knowledge of submarines... and when Tyler begins to ask questions about why it unlocks the doorway to an unsolved murder dating back to World War 2.
The Men in the Trees (2014). A young mother becomes embroiled in a century-old mystery after she discovers her new roommate has some dangerous secrets.
My website at http://marshmyers.com includes discussion pages and reviews for both titles. I'd love to hear from other YA authors and readers interested in subjects such as the paranormal, historical mysteries, supernatural themes, etc. Send me a friend request so we can share! Thank you. Marsh

I would like to tell you a little bit about my recently (self)published book, "Archie's First Adventure". It's a picture book for kids, but, actually there is no any age restriction. If you remember what is to be a kid this book is for you.
The book tells about Archie the mouse who lived under a big cedar in the woods. He loved to read books, draw, and play with his friends. But one day he received a letter from his friend Bruno. Bruno was a lizard. For some reason he didn't sleep in winter - he usually moved to his house at the Lilac Mountain and skied and travelled. So he invited Archie to visit him. It sounded great for Archie - because he had never been farther than Calm Creek. And he decided to go without any hesitation. But would the trip as fun and easy as he thought? Read the book to know :)
I not only wrote the text but created the illustrations. I use the "create" verb because I really created them. I used wool and clay to make heroes and wood and paper to create sceneries. Then I took pictures. Some of them have been taken in my "house studio" (actually on the dinner table), others in the nearest park.
I included several pages about this process in the book.
But more information and photos you can find on my site: www.archiethemouse.com
Please leave comments on the site :)

Recently I run the giveaway here on Goodreads, I had 1440 people requested the book, and it was on the first page of the "most requested books" but I still have some difficulties with sales.
So I would really appreciate any feedback and suggestions.
PS I apologize for my English - this language is not actually native for me. But don't worry - the professional native editor edited the book - so the language there is nice and clean.
Thanks!

I am Kaye Pascal. I have a new release on amazon for 2.99 called The Curse of the Golden Coins.
The Curse of the Golden Coins
The Curse of the Golden Coins is a 161 page e-book. It is a fast paced fantasy adventure story that is perfect for a quick read. The setting is rural America 1865. The protagonist Del, is a 23 year old who had served the Union Army during the Civil War. During the spring of 1865 as the war is coming to a close, Del stumbles onto a cave. He finds a chest of golden coins. He believes this is a lost treasure that will make him a fortune. This long lost treasure is not what it seems to be. Del discovers that what he thinks is a treasure is a curse. He is faced with a sinister presence of sorts. His treasure reveals a world of magic that leads him on a fast paced adventure. His ultimate goal is to defeat this sinister presence and save his life. Del is joined on his adventure by his friend Sawyer who is an ex-slave. He is also joined by new friend Willow. Beneath the layer of a fast paced adventure is the story of friendship. As magic and myth unfold, the three friends work together to save Del from the curse of the golden coins. If you like a good adventure without the romance, this is a good read. It is not the predictable story of a lost treasure that has been tried over and over again. This is a unique historical fantasy adventure that has twists and turns until the end and is still relevant to today’s audiences. A good mixture of historical adventure with a dash of supernatural elements and a sprinkle of fantasy makes for an exciting read.

[Excerpt from Chapter 14: The South - Ember of a New World By Tom Watson]
The people wore leather clothing much like Ember's people in the cold season, but they also wore exquisitely woven reed or plant fiber jackets and flax clothing. Flax grew in the north, but it was imported most of the time by traders, such as these people. The fiber was very hard to obtain, requiring the freshly dug plants to be placed in large wooden tubs and allowed to rot. Afterward women would use large rounded rocks and wooden bats at various intervals to remove the unwanted outer part of the plant releasing the fibers. The fibers could be carefully turned into a thin cord. The process was fully by hand and would take many seasons from plant to string. Many of the older women were sitting around creating such string as Ember watched.
If only string could be made more quickly..., she pondered. Of course, Ember knew that the best things in life took many long days or more to make.
Ember watched one woman walk by, quite close. She had hazel colored eyes and long honey colored wavy hair in twin side buns with a long portion of hair flowing to just below her waist. Her hair was decorated with white beads and little blue feathers. Her skin was coated in a brown coloring with thatched lines for decoration. She was wearing a long leather skirt and a flax vest open in the front for her baby, which she held in her arms, to feed. The baby was wrapped within a soft leather blanket to keep it warm. The woman wore a cloak over her back of woven plant fiber of with a quality Ember had never seen. The fibers had been braided and carefully woven into a corded panel rather than just the basket-like methods her people used. Her feet were wrapped in soft leather boots. On her back was a bundle of sticks she was obviously bringing home. She smiled as she passed and gave the group a nod.
Wow! This is amazing! Ember thought. She was becoming quite happy with exploring the world. Ember expected celebrations that night, as were performed by her tribe when traders came. It was a good enough excuse. Besides, everyone was too busy looking over the wares and the people to worry with work. Nor'Gar and the troop were ushered by the elder and two of the warriors to a set of four large huts which looked as though they were used often by guests. Beside the huts was a large court yard with a large hut near it. The large hut looked to be the most significant and was painted with various imagery of animals and anthropomorphic figures. Ember wondered what went on in that unique building. Before she could get a closer look, the group was motioned to enter the huts.

I live in North Carolina and am the author of a semi-fictional short novel "The Bounce!"

The book portrays the life and adventures of those in the global offshoring industry. I am looking forward to reader inputs and reviews.

Hey.
You, surfing for something to read so you won't fall asleep due to the "Melrose Place" Marathon.
Look, here's the thing. There are thousands of authors out there chasing the dream of writing for a living. I happen to be one of them. I've written 4 books. Shockingly, I am not rich. But I like to write, so I keep trying.
Anywho, I just released book # 4. There is no major protagonist, no plot, and there won't be a movie adaptation (well, maybe there will be, but I am not holding my breath about it).
The book has 2 good looking kids on the cover. And the title...well, it is to the point.
Here's the synopsis:
Written in short sections, "90 Things" is a tongue-in-cheek look at life and the things in it that drive us insane. The book tackles a variety of subjects:
The controversial (racial tension and stereotypes) to the simply annoying (rude people in supermarkets);
The lack of good sense in smart people (why women let men keep hurting them) to pure greed (how the rich keeps getting richer off of the middle class, the inane status of American politics);
The joys (and mostly trials) of raising offspring (children and their evil ways) before finally taking an inside look at my own pet peeves that makes me place my head in my hands in frustration.
Written with a wink and a hope for us all, “90 Things” will make you smile at some things, get angry at others, but hopefully make you question how we as human beings have survived this long without destroying ourselves.
So it's a humor book. It's a conversation between me and you, the reader. It's for the human race and all of its frailties and confusion. It's on sale now, but for a review, I'll give it to you in either .pdf or .epub formats.
Fair, right? And you won't have to watch Heather Locklear being, well, Heather Locklear.
Cool?
90 Things That Irritate The Sh** Out Of Me...Or At Least Make Me Frown
