S.W. Wilcox (swwilcox) | 3 comments A Poem for Britain A Poem for Britain (Bards of Fantasia #1) by S.W. Wilcox I hope you can treat yourself to a few chapters around Halloween, as that's when the story takes place and the characters race across Britain and various other-worlds to save the dystopian future. It's pretty short too, about a 2-hour read/movie. There's also quite a few editorial reviews to stir your imagination, although this 99cent mass-edition only has two customer reviews so far. I like the one summary: "It has everything a fantasy lover could want, including kings, queens, gods, serpents, sorceresses, dragons, goblins, elves, merfolk, demons, and wizards." --Happy Holidays!

Robert Eggleton | 8 comments Rarity from the Hollow by Robert Eggleton is an adult literary novel with a social science fiction backdrop. The final edition paperback was released to Amazon on November 3, 2016: https://www.amazon.com/Rarity-Hollow-... The eBook was released on December 5, 2016. Half of author proceeds are donated for the prevention of child maltreatment. Sensitizing readers to victimization, early tragedy in this story feeds and amplifies subsequent comedy and satire.

Blurb:

Lacy Dawn's father relives the Gulf War, her mother's teeth are rotting out, and her best friend is murdered by the meanest daddy on Earth. Life in the hollow is hard. She has one advantage -- an android was inserted into her life and is working with her to cure her parents. But, he wants something in exchange. It's up to her to save the Universe. Lacy Dawn doesn't mind saving the universe, but her family and friends come first.

Rarity from the Hollow is adult literary science fiction filled with tragedy, comedy and satire. A Children's Story. For Adults.

"A fun, sometimes cleverly-gonzo, and even inspiring tale about an undaunted girl's close encounter of the weird kind." -- David Brin, Award Winning SciFi Author

“The most enjoyable science fiction novel I have read in years.” -- Temple Emmet Williams, Author, former editor for Reader’s Digest

“Quirky, profane, disturbing… In the space between a few lines we go from hardscrabble realism to pure sci-fi/fantasy. It’s quite a trip.” -- Evelyn Somers, The Missouri Review

"…a hillbilly version of Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy…what I would have thought impossible; taken serious subjects like poverty, ignorance, abuse…tongue-in-cheek humor without trivializing them…profound…a funny book that most sci-fi fans will thoroughly enjoy." -- Awesome Indies (Gold Medal)

“…sneaks up you and, before you know it, you are either laughing like crazy or crying in despair, but the one thing you won’t be is unmoved…a brilliant writer.” -- Readers’ Favorite (Gold Medal)

“Rarity from the Hollow is an original and interesting story of a backwoods girl who saves the Universe in her fashion. Not for the prudish.” -- Piers Anthony, NY Times Bestselling Author

“…Good satire is hard to find and science fiction satire is even harder to find.” -- The Baryon Review

Political Allegory: This novel was the first, perhaps the only, science fiction adventure to specifically predict the rise of Donald Trump to political power -- parody with no political advocacy one side or any other. Readers find out how Lacy Dawn, the protagonist, convinced Mr. Rump (Bernie Sanders) to help talk Mr. Prump (Donald Trump) into saving the universe. The allegory includes pressing issues that are being debated today, including illegal immigration and the refuge crisis, an issue that several European commentators have compared to cockroach infestation; extreme capitalism / consumerism vs. domestic spending for social supports; sexual harassment…. Mr. Prump in my story was a projection of Donald Trump based on the TV show, The Apprentice. The counterpart, Mr. Rump, was based on my understanding of positions held by Bernie Sanders as I wrote the story. Part of the negotiations in the story occur in the only high rise on planet Shptiludrp (Shop Until You Drop), a giant shopping mall and the center of economic governance, now more easily identifiable as Trump Tower. The allegory was not addressed by ARC reviewers of the novel because so few people worldwide considered Donald Trump to be a serious political contender until the primary elections in the U.S. The political allegory in the novel is obvious now that Donald Trump has become a household name.

Customer Review Related to Political Parody (Amazon Only):

"..To save the world, part of the deal in order for Lacy to get help from the android to fix her totally messed up parents, she takes them all to another planet. I try to keep up with politics in real life, but it still took a minute to sink in that a lot of things happening on this planet were parody about issues that everybody is arguing about on Facebook: immigration, sexual harassment, complicated tax codes and what taxes should be spent on. It wasn’t preachy at all, not like you might think a book that includes these topics would be -- less preachy than Saturday Night Live. The story didn’t try to give you solutions or pick sides on the issues. It was so hilarious that I almost forgot about Lacy being a victim of child abuse, but then the story pulls it all together in the end, leaving me with a lot to think about in the future, especially about how politics affect kids facing horrible situations. Everybody should read this book, not just science fiction fans because it’s more than that. I only bought it because I saw on Facebook how some of the money would go to help kids in trouble. Now, I’m very glad that I read it because it’s a great book that I’ll not soon forget." https://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-re...

Rafael * | 1 comments My book is called "Christopher Columbus The Hero." The book addresses and debunks modern day revisionism against Christopher Columbus. So, if you recently heard that Columbus was an evil man who enslaved the natives because there was no gold, and/or he cut off their hands, etc., then what you heard is fiction. My book compared the fictional accounts by modern day revisionists with the actual accounts of those who lived the story and wrote it for us today. The book is available on Amazon for $10.99 and Kindle for $4.99.

Shreesha Bhat | 1 comments Hello everyone, I am a new member on this group.

My first book, Glaciers of Blood - Book 1 of the Himalaya Trilogy, is available as an ebook here:

https://www.amazon.com/Glaciers-Blood...

The book is set in 5th Century India, and is a mix of the fantasy and sci-fi genres. The summary, from the Amazon product page, is given below.

5th Century AD. Sindhurashtra, a vast empire stretching from the river Sindhu to the Brahmaputra, is a nation of superheroes – every resident of the empire has a set of superhuman skills unique to his or her Clan. For a long time, Zhongua, the hostile neighbour on the other side of the Himalayas, has attempted to conquer Sindhurashtra. A decisive campaign was launched two years ago by the Zhonguan army, powered by the magical might of their Sorcerers. However, Bhargavacharya, the wisest man in Sindhurashtra, neutralized their magical powers, leading to their defeat and imprisonment as prisoners of war.
Now, a fragile peace exists, as the two empires attempt to repair their relationship through trade and tourism. However, several conspiracies are being hatched in Zhongua to destabilize Sindhurashtra through a shadow war, even as internal conflicts between the Clans threaten to tear Sindhurashtra apart. Meanwhile, a time traveller from a dystopian 22nd century arrives in Zhongua, and promises to help the Zhonguan army in exchange for fulfilling his own sinister agenda…
A heady mix of fantasy, political drama and science fiction, Glaciers of Blood - the first book in the Himalaya Trilogy - takes the reader back in time to an era where today's political games were being played with magic and superhuman skills.

I am not sure how much ancient Indian mythology would appeal to readers in the Americas/Europe or elsewhere, but if you keep aside the names of the characters and places, and the units of time and length used in ancient India, it is a standard fantasy novel, which would perhaps interest Game of Thrones fans!!

Shannon Heuston | 6 comments My novel based on my experiences being bullied as a child is available on Kindle Countdown for 1.99. The Playground today 11/12-11/16.

I wrote this book because while there are a lot of books about childhood bullying, there are none that explore the aftereffects and how it continues to affect a victim's life many years later. We hear a lot of dire statistics, for instance, that past bullying victims exhibit higher rates of depression, that they never live up to their full potential, etc. But no story highlights how this actually translates to someone's life and what it looks like.

Readers have told me they relate to this book and see a lot of themselves in the character of Rachel and identify with her struggles. I wrote this book for all the victims out there who lack the voice to tell the truth about their experiences.

'Dahabo was five years old when British Colonial troops stormed her village, massacring most of her family and friends. A refugee and a nomad, Dahabo traveled throughout Somalia, reconnecting the pieces of her family as she tried to build a life. Living through a period of great change and political upheaval, Dahabo's story is framed by a backdrop of British, then Italian occupations, war with Ethiopia, Somalian Independence and the devastation of Cold War power struggles. The rise and fall of her country mirrored the successes, heartbreaks, and ultimate peace she found in her life. This is the story of my grandmother Dahabo, a Somali nomad.

Names, dates and places may change but the struggle of real life remains the same. I have traditionally published twice before but now I am too old to consider for someone with a limited track record.

THE OTHER SIDE OF COURAGE is written to educate while entertaining and feeding the soul. The Historical Novel Society - Issue 30 - refers to OSC as "well-researched and a riveting page-turner." BEYOND THE FENCE is a crime thriller set in rural Jamaica. It is an 'exhaustive page turner' filled with plots and counter plots. The reader is guaranteed to be kept on the edge of his seat.

THAT BLOOMING SYSTEM is a fictitious commentary about corruption in government ( Politicians and Officers) in a Caribbean island. It traces an ambitious country boy's journey into the working world with government and highlights his shocking encounters with political victimization, cronyism and open dishonesty. He joins up with his superiors to expose the officers and politicians who bloom on the system, exposing himself to grave danger. But amid the turmoil in the office he finds the love of his life.

I anticipate your comments, and of course suggestions.

Debbie | 1 comments Hello, Everyone!

I'm glad to see a website like this to promote my self-published book, The Jewel in the Christmas Holly, which is a YA medieval fantasy. I had it published in July 2017.

Here is a brief summary of what my book is about:

When a medieval peasant girl named Nan receives some holly for Christmas, she unknowingly incites an evil spell from a mysterious book read by Lord Robert, ruler of the town of Lamington where she lives, erasing Christmas forever. After some unsettling events, Nan is sent to a monastery with the lady of the castle’s maidservant and the castle guard—who has a hidden life of his own—to learn about her disturbing link to Lord Robert’s book. At the monastery, she discovers a cavity in the book for a missing jewel with close ties to malicious fairies looking for nothing short of revenge! With the help of good fairies from a kingdom where a wicked and illicit fairy ruler reigns, Nan goes on a perilous mission, while a dark spirit lurks, to find the lost jewel that can break the spell and bring Christmas and peace back to Lamington.

I signed up on Goodreads a few months ago, but I'm still not sure how it is supposed to work. Anyway, you can find my book on Amazon.com:

https://www.amazon.com/Jewel-Christma...

This paperback book is also available as a Kindle e-book, on Amazon international websites, and Barnes and Noble online. You can also find it on independent bookstore websites as well.

Kevin | 1 comments Imagine a world filled with magic, ruled by Giants who took what they wanted, and laid waste to everything they saw! When disaster hit, they left for the stars, leaving a magical race of people to defend and cure the mess they left behind. The Gigans promised to return when the world was healed, causing strong political divisions with the custodial race. It's been over 100 years since the Gigans have gone, and the island nation of magically endowed people are faced with their pressing return. Plants, animals and insects have since thrived, granting them an enlarged presence on the planet. These enlarged and now giant animals, have resulted in avianators who ride the backs of hawks, and squirrels who are used as pack mules.
What will the people on the Island of Geb do? Will they try to explore the planet, and stop the return of the Gigans? Will they prepare it for the return? Or will they keep the planet in a state of disaster to discourage the Giants' return?

The story itself is set on a volcanic island in the middle of an ocean, 100 years after giants have left the Earth. There you see a populace of spell casting people, as they struggle with a world that has become gigantic all around them! The novel takes you through the world, introducing you to the politics and mentalities of those on this island nation. Not everyone who disagrees is a bad person, and not everyone who agrees is a good person. It's here that you are pulled into the society, as they struggle to live with each other, while using magic to stop conflict and save the day!

In the autumn of 1888 terror stalked the streets of Whitechapel.
‘Jack the Ripper’ was never caught.
Follow a surprising suspect as she weaves her mayhem into a tapestry of blood and lies in a twist on one of Britain’s most notorious unsolved murders.
What if Jack was a Jill?

The East End of London was a difficult place to grow up in during the Victorian era with unemployment and poverty rife in the neighbourhood. Family’s forged communities and manufactures forged industries as the grey city landscape grew. The Wheelers were more fortunate than most for they all had work and their eldest daughter Mary had found skilled employment allowing her the independence to develop into a strong and forceful woman with a wicked streak that would cause mayhem on the dirty streets of London.
Mary encounters hardships and tragedy as she establishes her place in the world which shapes her domineering personality. Family relations are strained by the constraints of society and the shame of a wayward child as Mary strives to stamp her remarkable and unforgettable legacy on the world. Inevitably, young gentleman are ensnared by the dangerous beauty and Mary forges a unique friendship that will descend into a secret web of blood and lies.
Mary loves as fiercely as she kills. Deep down all Mary craved was a family, a child to love, but that had been viciously stolen from her. The world had forsaken her so she would forsake the world and she would teach them not to squander what they had been given.
In the autumn of 1888 London is gripped by the heinous murders of working woman. Prostitutes lay slaughtered as a savage killer taunts the police and instils terror in the local population. Police and vigilantes hunt in vain for the mysterious killer who is ripping their way through the back streets of Whitechapel. Mary has the knowledge that will lead police directly to the killer.
Mary’s volatile nature is fuelled by the experiences of her past as well as her affection for alcohol and her battle with depression. Her blackened heart is inflamed when she meets Frank Hogg. However, her obsession with Frank sees her reach incredible highs only to be crippled by devastating lows as she contends with the mother of his child, the ill-fated Phoebe. Will love conquer all and where will Mary’s fate lead her?

Genevieve Cox | 1 comments Hi Everyone, I've just published my first novel based on the stories of my Grandma and her life during the war...

The Final Pearl is an historical novel which opens in the years following World War One and concludes in the 1960s.
Written in three parts, the book opens with the love affair between our protagonist’s, Pearl’s, parents and part one follows their love, life and fortunes from their first meeting through the years of their marriage, the births of their ten children. It then moves to consolidate a first-person perspective upon their youngest child, Pearl. It is structured around the various houses which formed the physical fragments of the protagonist’s life. It is a fictional novel based around a true story, that of my own grandmother.
The first person is used to follow Pearl’s life story as it intertwines with her brothers’ and sisters’. It traces fragments of her first memories – the death of her father – and incorporates encounters with her siblings and friends. The story includes tales of boat-building with her eldest brother, Anglo; dress-making with her sisters, admiration of their outings to balls and fanciful love affairs before also moving through her own lovers and friendships outside of family life.
During the war, family life expands to offer the reader an insight into the situation of sharing and separation that war brings with the new arrival of boarders – Seal, the Canadians, Mr and Mrs Woodward… - to their home and both the excitement and difficulties they bring. The story follows individual experiences of the war, including the factory jobs adopted by the elder girls, the joining into the air-force of Links and Sparrow, Anglo’s naval contribution at Dunkirk and then his exploration around the world in his boat, ‘Cute Newt’.
As well as collaborating different war experiences alongside Pearl’s own, the story shares her central narrative with insights into her siblings’ narratives too. Individuals take fragments of the book which then centralise and focus on their stories, showing their marriages and later life journeys and destinations before finally sifting through to the end of war, to a sense of stability of both setting and story-telling as the tale centres solely on Pearl.
After the confusion of bombings, house-moving, sisters coming-and-going, the story follows a more direct line of post-war life for Pearl. It shows how she experiences her own love affairs, their trials and triumphs, her marriage, honeymoon, early life and gradual family-building and blossoming until the book finally finishes with the fuller picture of her entire life. The book closes upon her final note and farewell.

Derek Power (derek_c_power) | 1 comments Hi,

I'm running a Kindle Promotion for the first novel in my Filthy Henry series, starting tomorrow.

Filthy Henry: The Fairy Detective

The Amazon link is here.

Filthy Henry, The Fairy Detective is a comedy-fantasy novel, based around old Irish Celtic myths and Legends. Elements from the old stories have been tweaked slightly to put a modern spin on them.

The story itself sees Filthy Henry, a half-human/half-fairy, working on a case to find out who stole a leprechaun's crock of gold.

It is the first in what I see as being an ongoing series with stories being relatively self contained.

Two follow up novels are already out there in the form of
The Impossible Victim and Accidental Legend

While the Kindle Free promo is running (the book is free for the next 5 days) I'd love for people to spare some time to read it and leave reviews/give me feedback.

Cheers
D

Nicole Woolaston (nicole_e_woolaston) | 7 comments Hello! I'd like to mention a paperback I published late last year. The title is "The Witch of Fulton Lane". This is the story of Dylan Maycriss, a self-proclaimed witch, and Josie Roman, a woman who moves into a new house on Dylan's street, Fulton Lane. Their lives intersect in unexpected ways, and they discover they needed one another, more than they could ever have imagined. This is my first paranormal story, and I hope anyone who reads it, enjoys it!

Mark Swanson | 2 comments Hi everyone,
I just self-published my debut horror novel, Odessa, Or on Amazon.
Odessa, Or by Mark Swanson
An archaeologist named Annabel Moore and her colleague, Alek Gerysz discover a horrific Neolithic mural in a cave beneath the Crimean mountains. Soon after, they begin sharing strange dreams and the ability to see future events. They experiment with the dreams and come to believe they are traveling through a portal to another world. A dangerous world that is under siege by a terrifying shadow. They try to publish their discovery, but soon Alek is dead and Annabel Moore is discredited. Her career is over.
Six years later, on a winter night in the town of Odessa, Oregon, a young child named Julian is haunted by a mysterious, malevolent shadow. His mother, Erin Hill, is haunted too. By dreams that take her to a frightening world, that is both past and a dystopic future. As their house and their lives are ravaged by the shadow, Erin searches for answers, but neither her partner Adrian or detective Nathaniel Simmons will accept the impossible truth. There is one who can help, but is it too late?
Odessa, Or is an epic and terrifying journey into the shadows lurking behind the everyday, in the places we don't want to go and the truths we don't want to see. Mark Swanson's first novel blends horror, dystopian science-fiction and biting social commentary into a frightening tale of domination and resistance.

Malcolm Mooi Indigo Child Chasing Dreams Money Can't Buy
https://indigochild.info

Fast paced, highly entertaining and disturbingly thought provoking. Indigo Child is a memoir of sorts, the compelling story of a courageous dreamer and his curious journey of discovery and transformation. Serial Entrepreneurship is redefined as this indigo child exposes his heart, experiences and lessons in a vulnerable, candid and hilarious account of his Hero's journey.

The storytelling is poetic, unorthodox and unapologetic, and likely to leave your jaw wide open with unusual analogies and questions about beliefs, values and concepts that range from heritage and ethnicity, to time, to how you view failure, to the very fabric of reality. Love him or hate him, Malcolm will get the wheels of your mind turning to consider your own Call to Adventure.

Cachline Etienne | 2 comments Hey everyone, I'm cachline. Recently I self-published a poetry chapbook called "Stories Untold" however self promotion is proving to be harder than I anticipated. My poems are written from my heart as I wrote them during an extremely rough patch in my life. My poetry touches on emotions such as hope, depression, pride. I would appreciate if you guys can support, here's a sample:

Hope

A northern light,
A starlit night,
A silver flower,
A determined fighter.
As the plant grows in my soul,
It shouldn’t be there, yet it holds.
A new surge of strength grows inside, I feel faint.
Before I know it, it begins,
casting all fears aside.
It can hurt me, disappoint me,
or even manipulate me.
But it grows,
It is determined to have its way.
So my body, in turn just obey.
Hope takes over, a deadly sin,
For when it starts it never ends.

so please give it a try, available in both kindle and paperback on amazon.

Prajna Chaudhary (Eksaahir) | 1 comments We humans love to live in secured places. We keep our windows shut; doors closed and go to any extent to protect ourselves and our families from dangers. Unfortunately, there still lingers a danger we have not been successful to protect ourselves from, which is, pain.Pain is a baggage almost everyone carries but nobody feels it the same way.
This collection of poetry takes the reader from baggage to freedom.
This collection of poetry gives the reader assurance that they’re not alone.
This collection of poetry expresses me, you and the society.

Blades on Flowers reverberates with variegated aspects of life. The good and the bad.The anthology is divided into three sections: The Black, Grey and White. The Black, echoes a perennial gloom which is lead into the Grey zone of purgatory.Where life is at a standstill of contemplation and redemption. The White, instils the fervour of renewed aspirations and hopes. Echoing sheer ecstasy, which is the right of human soul.
The poems have portrayed the fragile human emotions and their complexity aesthetically while brushing upon mental health and it's importance.
