Damini Some Fantasy suggestions:

Half-Blood (Covenant, #1) by Jennifer L. Armentrout Graceling (Graceling Realm, #1) by Kristin Cashore Dealing with Dragons (Enchanted Forest Chronicles, #1) by Patricia C. Wrede Fallen (Fallen, #1) by Lauren Kate The Name of This Book Is Secret (Secret, #1) by Pseudonymous Bosch

message 352: by Kate (new)

Kate (kaitlins16) Since we mods are deciding the books, here are the ones I suggest we settle on:

Half-Blood (Covenant, #1) by Jennifer L. Armentrout (The last book in this series releases this week, so we can celebrate by having the first book be a BOTM.)

Pushing the Limits (Pushing the Limits, #1) by Katie McGarry (The next book in this series is also coming out this month! I also think it would be a great idea to have a contemporary option.)

Hemlock (Hemlock, #1) by Kathleen Peacock (I just really want to read this one, and I keep putting it off.)

How do these choices sound?

message 353: by Damini (new)

Damini Sounds perfect to me. :)

message 354: by Kate (new)

Kate (kaitlins16) Awesome. Those will be our BOTMs starting on the first.

message 355: by Damini (new)

Damini Alright!

message 356: by Damini (new)

Damini Hey,
I was wondering if we can start a blog for our group!
That'd be great, right?
What do you guys think?

message 357: by Kate (new)

Kate (kaitlins16) Hmm, maybe. I wouldn't be able to post on it often, though. But maybe I can post reviews of BOTMs if I read them.

We can also allow our our members guest review. Any of them could do it. I've seen a few blogs that have a few man contributors, then a bunch of smaller contributors. I think a blog for the group would work like that.

message 358: by Damini (new)

Damini Yes, definitely.
We can post reviews of BOTMs or other YA books, members can contribute actively too. There could be challenges and maybe occasional giveaways.
Plus it'd be a place to post the announcements concerning the group.

message 359: by Kate (new)

Kate (kaitlins16) It really would be. And it would be a great way to get more people nto the group.

message 360: by Kate (new)

Kate (kaitlins16) If others are up to it, I think we can definitely go through with the blog idea. But we need to do a lot of planning:

-Which platform to use (Blogger, Wordpress, our own domain, etc.)
-Blog layout
-Blog Title (though I think that's pretty easy to settle on)
-Who the main bloggers are
-Features (reviews, weekly/monthly posts, author interviews/spotlights, etc.)
-How often do we want to post?
-How to get group members interested in guest posting reviews
-How we plan to do giveaways (donations, affiliate programs, etc.)
-When we would like to start the blog
-What social media platforms we'll use
-What following methods we'll allow

I think it would be a really smart idea to take a few weeks and plan things out before we officially do anything. I have a lot of ideas , but I need a lot of input from you guys about how (or even if) you want to go through this blog idea.

message 361: by Damini (last edited Nov 01, 2013 09:20PM) (new)

Damini Wow! That's really well organized Kaitlin!
I'll try answering the questions first.

Which platform to use (Blogger, Wordpress, our own domain, etc.)- Our own domain would be the best! But I have very little knowledge about web designing so, if anyone else is expert in this field, then only we should go for this. Blogger will be preferable otherwise.
-Blog layout: The custom blogger layouts are pretty nice. We can use them.
-Blog Title (though I think that's pretty easy to settle on): YA Bookaholics!
-Who the main bloggers are: The mods. But if anyone else from the group want to be a part, they're welcome. (to a limited number, of course!)
-Features (reviews, weekly/monthly posts, author interviews/spotlights, etc.): All of those! Like we do in our own blogs. Perhaps we can end up being Tour organizers!
-How often do we want to post? It depends. But 20 posts a month, at least, would be moderate.
-How to get group members interested in guest posting reviews: Need to think about this!
-How we plan to do giveaways (donations, affiliate programs, etc.) I'm not sure, may be once in a month?
-When we would like to start the blog: My be in January, 2014?
-What social media platforms we'll use: Facebook, Twitter, and others if possible!
-What following methods we'll allow: GFC (if we use blogger), Bloglovin', networked blogs and others (I'm not aware of many!

message 362: by Damini (new)

Damini I'd love to hear your ideas, Kaitlin.
If we mods are busy sometimes, we can opt for co-bloggers.
Lets plan things properly.

message 363: by Kate (new)

Kate (kaitlins16) January would be nice. Or maybe even December because I'll be off from school for a few weeks.

Here are my ideas for the "who blogs:"

-We mods and a few other members would be the main ones (or some members can just be smaller bloggers that post book reviews only)
*Each of us could have our own special feature. Depending on how busy we are, it can be something monthly, every other week, or even weekly. It can be a discussion, review, or something else
*We can collaborate on a few posts: discussions, joint reviews, etc.

-Our members would be allowed to guest review and guest post
*We can open up a signup area in the group that would allow members to submit reviews to us so we can feature them on the group
*We can allow our members to write guest posts
*We can take statements from our members about certain books (like our BOTMs) and discussion topics and feature them on the blog

-Author services
*I would start simple. We can feature our authors in interviews, guest posts, promo posts, reviews, etc.
*We can have an area (like a tab) dedicated to the YA Bookaholic Authors where we keep a list of bios and links of all of them.

~~~
So, those are a few ideas, but I think we should start with the "who" and the platform. We need to figure out who would like to blog with us. One or two of us mods may be too busy or may not be interested.
message 364: by Damini (new)
Damini Right you are!
The ideas are brilliant and I think discussing with the other mods and members we can decide things.
Also, December is fine to start this.
message 365: by Kate (new)
Kate (kaitlins16) Okay, I'll send a message out to the group about the blog idea.
But if no one shows interest in the blog and being a part of it, or I don't think I'll be able to do it. It's a lot of work, and I would like to know if people would actually read the blog and review for it.
message 366: by Damini (new)
Damini Yeah, lets see if members are actually interested or not.
message 367: by [deleted user] (new)
I might have an idea...
If there's something I like, that's activity. We are currently reading CA but that's long gone.
In January, some important books are going to be released. I was thinking of holding up a thread where readers are excited about the releases of January. We first look at their wishes, then hold up a "chapters sneak giveaway."
I know, its a bit confusing, so I am going to clear it up here.
My friend (Gracie) says, "I can't wait for Behind the Eyes -Consequences (Consequences, #4) by Aleatha Romig."
So this post is going to be like this,
"Excited for a book released in January 2014? No problem. Just tell us which book, and the date, and we'll give you the first chapter the day its released. Every day, we're going to give away a new chapter, so you don't need to worry about buying or downloading a book. And if possible, we're going to post two chapters at once! :P"
So, for example, Gracie comments :
"I want to read Behind the Eyes. It's gonna be released in Jan 14th, 2014"
On 14th, I message her as many chapters I can. Don't worry about the giveaway; I can make the arrangements, I assure you.
What do you think?
I have some more ideas, and I'll message you later on!
message 368: by Damini (new)
Damini That's a very good idea, Tinath.
Are you working on it yet? Or planning to start soon?
message 369: by Damini (new)
Damini I was thinking about arranging some writing competitions for members of our blog. The duration of the competition can be weekly or monthly. There would be prizes for winners.
Would like to know what do you guys think about it.
message 370: by Damini (new)
Damini Kaitlin, how is the blog going?
Can you leave the link here?
Sorry for the late reply.
It's great! But I am not sure about the prizes...givaways?
message 372: by Damini (last edited Apr 13, 2014 08:24AM) (new)
Damini Yeah it could be giveaways, or I can send out e-books I won in giveaways. Is that illegal?
Jessica  (stuckinotherworlds) | 858 comments Mod
i think you would have to buy it and send the book without copying it. I.e. cant copy your own copy of the book and send, need to send a newly bought copy. so basically we buy a book for them. soory i havent been around, schools been crazy! you guys have been doing great! thanks so much. what happened to kaitlin?
message 374: by Damini (new)
Damini Hey Jess, good to see you back. :)
Oh in that case I don't think I'll be able to arrange giveaways. :(
As for Kaitlin, she said she couldn't be a MOD anymore. :|
Hey! If you need too give me any work to do dont be afraid too. I'll be on here a bit everyday. :)
message 377: by Damini (last edited May 07, 2014 09:15PM) (new)
Damini Honestly, Jess, there isn't much to do. :( It makes me so disappointed..sad actually. I've been creating BOTM polls..members vote there, but when it comes to discussion, no one seems to be interested in participating. Check the BOTM discussion of past few months..there's no activity, I don't know if they read the books or not.. so what's the point? So I restrained myself from creating May BOTM this month.. Sorry about that, but if no one is willing to participate, I don't think I'll do that in future as well..
message 378: by Jessica , Proud Bookaholic (new)
Jessica  (stuckinotherworlds) | 858 comments Mod
oh thats alright. Its probably because of school. Maybe july they will participate?
message 379: by Damini (new)
Damini Maybe.. Would you like to conduct that?
message 380: by Jessica , Proud Bookaholic (new)
Jessica  (stuckinotherworlds) | 858 comments Mod
Conduct what?
message 381: by Damini (new)
Damini The BOTM of the upcoming months. And I guess I'll delete myself from the position of Mod.
message 382: by Jessica , Proud Bookaholic (new)
Jessica  (stuckinotherworlds) | 858 comments Mod
Oh really? Alright, if you want to. It was fun having you around. :)
message 383: by [deleted user] (new)
Hey y'all are great mods in really glad I can become part of the team we can spark some more activity with more activity from ourselves if we each take a folder and comment on everytopic we can make it happen let's use the old divide and conquer method!
Great idea! How will we split it?
message 385: by [deleted user] (new)
I can take what ever you want me to
message 386: by Damini (new)
Damini Primarily, I think, there are 3 things which we should be taken care of.
1. BOTM, Trivia and Discussion related to BOTM
2. Reading/non-reading challenges (I think having a few interesting challenges will help boosting up the activity).
3. All the recent releases, books to movies and things related to the "Hot Topics" folder.
So each of us can take care of a section. What do you guys think?
message 387: by Jessica , Proud Bookaholic (last edited Jul 14, 2014 08:27PM) (new)
Jessica  (stuckinotherworlds) | 858 comments Mod
Great! Well since I'm already handling 1. BOTM, Trivia and Discussion related to BOTM could I please continue and develop that?
message 388: by [deleted user] (new)
I can conquer the hot topics folders butnit may take a while I think we should create a folder dedicated to challenges so people can suggest ideas
message 389: by Damini (new)
Damini There is a folder for challenges, Lauren. :)
Jess, sure you can handle the BOTM section. :)
message 390: by Damini (new)
Damini That leaves me with challenges..okay I'll work on it. :)
But in August, I've exams so I won't be very regular during the course of the month. :( Could you guys cover it for me until I come back?
If you need any help with getting to know things just ask! And with the last part you said will you be doing that or discussing it with Vinny?
message 392: by [deleted user] (new)
Oh wow sorry for that I'll look up some ideas and see what I can do!
We have your back Vinny!
message 399: by Damini (new)
Damini One more thing, have you guys seen the Buddy Reads folder? I started this thing last month, almost at the last moment so there wasn't much participation. So if you guys like, I can continue it every month!
I've seen this thing in another group and its very famous out there!
message 400: by [deleted user] (new)
Yes I didn't see half the comments until now we are replying fast XD
