Good morning. I am sure that I am much older than the average person on this site. I'm lucky enough to write as a hobby and not try to make a living from it. All the same I have to ask myself how many professionals would spend years honing their skills. Hours writing and then even more time editing their work. Who would pay to have it produced and then asked to either give it away or sell it off at a loss. Not many. But this is something that is now expected from a writer. People have come to expect a free book. They little value the time and effort put into writing and then complain when the work is cheap and shoddy.
Amazon and the like have done great things for those of us who wish to publish our books away from the straight jacket of conventional publishing but should we also have to pay the price for that freedom.
Years ago there was a thing called the net book agreement where there was an agreed limit on the price of the book and although I am not in full agreement with that it would be nice of Amazon to consider the goose that keeps laying their golden eggs.
