Diesel 10 closed his claw before backing away a little.
Diesel looked on in interest.
Arry and Bert were delighted.

Arry and Bert were delighted.
Diesel 10 smiled darkly. "Don't think I'm turning soft, but I was glad to do it."
"Thanks, Boss," Arry and Bert said.
"Thanks, Boss," Arry and Bert said.
"No problem," Diesel 10 said, backing onto the turntable once more.
Diesel edged closer to Arry and Bert and Annie.
Diesel edged closer to Arry and Bert and Annie.
Diesel 10 did not spin around on the turntable this time. He just watched.
Arry and Bert sighed happily in relief.
Diesel rolled up closer to Diesel 10. "Why did you go and do that?"
"Because I wanted to," Diesel 10 said simply.

The smelter was getting dark, since night was falling outside. The light from the fire cast an eerie red glow about the place. Arry and Bert stayed close beside Annie.
Diesel 10 after a while rolled off the turntable, being close to the rest of the diesels and Annie. He was looking directly down at Annie, the red glow of the fire reflecting off his face. He could see she was afraid.
Diesel 10 smiled. "I know."
Diesel was delighted.
Arry and Bert were delighted as well, but they didn't want Annie to be scared.

"Well, if you want comfort, here it is." Diesel 10 picked her up again and placed her on Arry's front again. "Arry and Bert will comfort you. They're softies enough." He cackled.
"We're right here," Arry assured her.
Diesel was grinning like an idiot. He found all this to be so hilarious.

"Which one, Diesel, or our boss?"
"Where? Where? What monster?" Arry and Bert looked around nervously.
"Relax, you two, it's just the shadows," Diesel 10 said.
"Relax, you two, it's just the shadows," Diesel 10 said.
Diesel burst into quiet cackles.
"The darkness cannot hurt you," Diesel 10 said.
"The darkness cannot hurt you," Diesel 10 said.
"How?" Diesel 10 laughed. "The ground was what hurt you. How in the world can darkness hurt you? It's the things in the darkness that you should be worried about."
"You mean....." Diesel 10 was a little surprised. "You actually see something in here? What does it look like?" He looked around.
Diesel 10 was nervous.
Diesel was shaking.
Arry and Bert tried to stay calm for Annie's sake.
Despite his nervousness, Diesel 10 bravely started forwards to investigate.

Sure enough, there was something in the smelter. It was a bear. When Diesel 10 disappeared into the darkness, there was a growl heard from the bear....followed by a surprised cry from Diesel 10.
"What's going on?!" Diesel cried out in fear.
"Boss!" Arry and Bert cried.
"What's going on?!" Diesel cried out in fear.
"Boss!" Arry and Bert cried.
But when Diesel 10 came back out from the shadows, he had the bear in his claw. It struggled in his grip as he cackled victoriously. Diesel 10 reached the pit and threw the bear down into the fire, ending it, all while cackling all the more victoriously.
"Sure enough, there was a monster in the darkness," Diesel 10 cackled, moving away from the pit and back to them. "A bear. But the bear is dead. I killed it."
Arry and Bert and Diesel breathed a sigh of relief and were quite pleased.

Diesel 10 inched forward and stopped beside her. "That was the only monster in the darkness. No more monsters."
Diesel 10 looked around. "Don't tell me you saw another one."
"Then why are you crying?" Diesel spoke up.
"Scared of the dark, obviously," Diesel 10 murmured. "Well, I've protected everyone here. I can do it again."
Arry smiled down at her, and Bert smiled as well.
Diesel snickered. "Would be neat if there were more." He had forgotten how scared he was earlier.
"True," Diesel 10 grinned evilly. "But if there were more, this girl would end up having a heart attack." He chuckled. "But wait....I'm a monster. I may not be a bear, but I'm still a monster."

Diesel 10 cackled.
"Count me in," Diesel laughed. "I'm one, too."
Arry and Bert smirked. "Count us in, too, Boss." But then Arry quickly looked down at Annie. "But friendly monsters to Annie."
Diesel's mouth hung open a little, staring at Arry and not knowing what to think of him, before he rolled his eyes afterwards.
