Jesse okay, why did the site go to Javascript? I can't listen to the podcasts because it says there is a javascript security error. This is the first time I have even seen a security error. It didn't used to be this way, it worked perfectly when under HTML5.

Is there some insignificant checkbox I have to check in order for the content to work again? I am using Mac OS 10.6.8 and Safari 5.1.7.

Sean O'Hara (seanohara) | 2365 comments Oh, wow, I just looked at the site for the first time since the redesign, and it's severely broken without javascript -- and not just scripts from swordandlaser.com, I had to allow squarespace.com just to get images to load.

Nick (whyzen) | 1295 comments JavaScript isn't evil. Its just abused. Sort of like the blink tag in early html. Okay.. blink tag should never had been created.

I guarantee that a lot of websites would be horrible without JavaScript when it is use appropriately.

I run NoScript, and most sites look just fine without JavaScript enabled. And those that don't can be fixed by allowing scripts from that domain. I try not to enable third-party scripts for anything but video -- I won't even touch Gawker sites because they won't even let you see the story until you enable scripts from three different domains.

Nick (whyzen) | 1295 comments My original point being just because the sword and laser site is using JavaScript there is no reason to be upset about it.

Be smart about where you surf. If you aren't then disabling JavaScript won't protect your computer. There are other attack vectors.

If you want to be 100% secure, unplug your computer from the web and don't connect it to any removable storage.
