message 51: by Katsumi (new)

Katsumi (katsumi20) | 4 comments I read because it takes me to places I have never been before. Reading makes me happy and relaxed. Though there are more reasons why I read, the simplest thing I can tell to answer the question why I read is because I love reading and thats the main reason why I read.

message 52: by Aqila (new)

Aqila (aqila23) | 6 comments I read because it's the only way to forget my 'real-life' and to escape from my dormitory life. it makes me simply at ease and I loved it. I read because book is also my only constant and "real" companion, I don't have much friend so reading make me feel less friendless.

message 53: by Patricia (new)

Patricia (deathserum) I like reading because when I read, I feel a certain connection to the book, its characters and the plot. I also love talking and english is my favourite subject and reading expands my vocabulary and it also makes me more creative and imaginative. I don't know why reading appeals to me as much it does, I guess I just love getting lost in a world different to mine or pretending to be a character in a book.

message 54: by CL (new)

CL I read because I love it. I love getting to connect with different characters from different backgrounds. I love escaping to a new world that an author has created. I love discovering new things about myself because of books. Reading for me isn't just about the escape but it has helped me become more open minded. Books have changed and reshaped the way I look at the world and I don't know who I would be if I didn't read.

message 55: by Hannah (new)

Hannah I read to lose myself in a new world, to follow new characters on their journeys.

To find myself so immersed in this new reality all I can think of is this new book which I have found myself in love with. Just like I have recently withSeraphina.

message 64: by Joanne Farley (new)

Joanne Farley Wow this made me really stop and think, I really don't know why I read. It's just something I have always done. Reading allows me to leave the real world behind for s fee hours. I learn something every time I pick up a book.

message 65: by Cathal (new)

Cathal Reynolds (khakipantsofsex) To be honest, I don't know why I read. I just always have and always will. If I didn't I don't think I would be who I am, but I'm not willing to test that theory.

message 66: by Sourab (new)

Sourab (hundred) I read for two reasons:
1.-'Cause I love reading.
2.-So that I can love reading more.

Precisely.

message 68: by [deleted user] (new)

I personally read because I really enjoy books, the characters and suspenseful plots. But it is also a way to relieve stress for me and escape for awhile so that I can forget my worries for that period of time.

I read to relax and to escape to different worlds and go through adventures (safely). I also read to learn new ideas and to defend ideas. I read to expand my mind.

Rhonda Louise (rhondalouise) | 3 comments I remember my mom yelling at me when I was young: "For God's sake put that book down and go outside and play!"
I think it's a condition you are born with.
I am happily afflicted :)

message 77: by Vardan (new)

Vardan Partamyan (vardanpartamyan) | 186 comments I read to be inspired and entertained, to escape and find a way forward, to spend time and find a new direction, to embark on an adventure and return from one, to become an intergalactic hero and a poor fisherman trying to make ends meet...all of those reasons and as many more as there are books I have read and as many as I will read in the future.

So very true

message 81: by Tee (new)

Tee I run a personal book club on Facebook and as part of the description for the group, I wrote a little blurb about, fundamentally, why I read. There are many reasons...including wanting to escape and delve into new adventures and characters...but this is the main reason:

For those of you who do not know, I am an avid reader. As a child, I read far beyond my grade level, consistently. I always had a book on the go, especially since my bus rides to and from school amounted to 3 hours...every day. For a couple of years, I read very little and I was always a little restless because of it. For me, reading is a comfort. It's a still, quiet moment amongst what can be a hectic existence. When I was 22, I was diagnosed bipolar and haven't worked since. Once I got over the initial recovery from a nervous breakdown, I picked up a book (Alias: David Bowie), and started reading again. Since then, it has been the reason I'm not going completely stir crazy. Reading books spreads ideas and knowledge. It creates a reaction in us and makes us think. Any and all reading sharpens your mind, gives you focus, and engages your spirit.

message 85: by Mary (new)

Mary | 15 comments I read because it's a hobby of mine. It's a form of escape, and it prevents my brain from rotting. Books also make for good conversation topics, but unfortunately not a lot of people I know read a lot these days -- at least the stuff I read.

Mariah Monique (mariahmonique) | 7 comments I read to escape. To escape stress, noise, people, boring everyday life, and sometimes even my own mind. Whenever one of the above gets a little too much to handle. I pick up a book and I'm transported to a whole other world, where I can experience new things, meet new people. Which, if you think about it, is another reason I read. To experience something new.

message 90: by Santino (new)

Santino (tinoprinzi) Lots of reasons. Like most, to escape into another world. To broaden my mind. To learn how other writers captivate their readers (or don't).

But mostly, because I love it!

message 91: by Marian (new)

Marian Ruiz I read because it brings you to a whole new world that you've never imagined, it makes me feel different emotions, and it just empties my mind from everything that's been going on in my head. It also improves my vocabulary, and its really a lot more enjoyable than watching movies.
