Sara (summer_girl) | 5 comments I got hooked on Buffy the Vampire Slayer last June. I am sooooooo hooked. :) I think it's a wonderful show and that Joss Whedon is right up there Tolkein and Rowling. I must say my favorite ep is "Once More With Feeling", of course.
But anyway, it'd be great if there were other Buff fans to chat with here. :)

Slayermel Huge, Huge, Huge Buffy Fan :0)
I have the box set of all 7 Seasons and I watch them over and over again, as well as the Angel Box set.
I remember desperately waiting each week for the next episode, back when it was on TV. I'm so glad I have it on DVD so I can watch when ever I want now.
One of my favourite episodes, and I have many was "Hush"

message 3: by Marc (new)

Marc (authorguy) | 348 comments Me, too. There's a Buffy group here, called Fast Times at Sunnydale High.

message 4: by Sara (new)

Sara (summer_girl) | 5 comments I'm glad I'm not the only one. ;) Yes, aren't those box sets a saving grace!!! lol I got the Buffy one for Christmas and am saving up for the Angel set...
"Hush" is excellent, too. Those guys are creepy. I have to say the one that freaked me out the most of the entire series is "Conversations with Dead People" and the experiences Dawn was having. *shudder* That was creepy.

message 5: by Sara (new)

Sara (summer_girl) | 5 comments Ooh, yes I am a member of that one, too, Marc! I think that's the first one I found on here.

message 6: by Lara Amber (new)

Lara Amber (laraamber) | 664 comments I think a better question would be "is anyone here not a Buffy fan?" So we can shun them. :)

John Beachem | 50 comments Big time Buffy fan, here. Seems that for once I'm in the majority. Woohoo!

message 9: by Brooke (new)

Brooke | 0 comments The idea of not being a Buffy fan is unfathomable.

In very terrible Buffyverse news, Andy Hallett has passed away.

http://www.sfx.co.uk/page/sfx?entry=b...

I actually got teary eyed, he was way too young.

message 10: by Michael (new)

Michael (michaeljsullivan) | 110 comments Loved Buffy the series. Hated the movie. Amazing how different the two can be.

message 11: by Slayermel (new)

Slayermel Brooke thank you for sharing that, I had no idea. How very, very sad!
33 years old, it does bring a tear to the eye.
He will be sadly missed.

message 12: by Jeff (new)

Jeff (jeffbickley) Also a huge Buffy-verse fan. I'm very saddened by the news of Andy. I won fourth place in a karaoke contest in Houston that he judged a few years ago at a Vulkon convention, back when they used to do Buffy cons. We also have all of the seasons of Buffy/Angel as well as the Firefly season. My favorite Buffy episode is Doppelgangland. Big fan of Vamp Willow, here. Favorite Angel is Over the Rainbow, speaking of the Green One. We have, over the years, followed anyone who was part of those shows, and are currently watching Bones, How I Met Your Mother, and now, of course, Dollhouse. Also began watching Castle this season, Nathan Fillion's new show. Quite good, I think. It's good to see the Mutant Enemy going "Grr...Arrgh!" again!

message 13: by Marc (new)

Marc (authorguy) | 348 comments They ought to have the mutant do more strange things, just to get people to watch the credits.

message 14: by Slayermel (new)

Slayermel They ought to have the mutant do more strange things, just to get people to watch the credits.

Seriously!!! *Killing myself laughing*

Jeff, we also started following the cast of the show. I really enjoy Bones and plan on collecting the seasons of that as well soon. "How I met You Mother" is currently one of my favourite shows on TV. You just got to love Barney, "Suit up!" :0)
Unfortunately I have not been able to catch Dollhouse yet, I've been hearing very mixed reviews, do you recommend it?

message 15: by Jeff (new)

Jeff (jeffbickley) We have enjoyed Dollhouse. It is a departure for Whedon, in that it is darker with less of his characteristic humor. One exception was the most recent episode, which many people (including some reviewers) compared to "Band Candy." There is so much development that is still going on, though, that the cast is still coming together. We have Eliza and Amy Acker in there, and the guy that does the actual "doll" programming, I think his name is Topher, reminds my wife and me of Andrew. Maybe a mix of Andrew and Warren both. I could easily see Tom Lenk playing his part, though. I like the show a lot and hope it makes it. I was scared that it was on Fox on Friday night.

message 16: by Marc (new)

Marc (authorguy) | 348 comments I was thinking the Star Trek episode 'Amok Time', myself. To see back episodes, go to www.Hulu.com and search on Dollhouse.

Agreed! Buffy was an incredible show. Joss is pretty amazing. It was the perfect blend of humor and tension. Great use of comic relief. I couldn't rest until I owned all the seasons. I even gave the follow up comic a go but I faded on that one.

I'm enjoying Dollhouse as well. It's not as good but eveything needs time to develop.

If you loved Buffy, don't forget Firefly and the movie Serenity.

I believe I've read that Joss Whedon was pretty unhappy with the movie too. That the studio changed his vision and did that crappy movie. The series was more in-line with what he wanted from the get-go. I don't even consider the movie part of the Buffy universe.

Has anyone else read the graphic novel The Origin? It's what Joss envisioned his movie would be like before Hollywood took over. Not a huge change in what happened, but the tone was completely different.

message 20: by Jeff (new)

Jeff (jeffbickley) I haven't read that. I'll have to get a copy of it. Actually never even heard of it.

maybe the problem with the movie was the 90210 guy

Luke Perry :op
I'm really "dating" myself here aren't I *giggle*

I actually enjoyed the movie for what it was, a fun, campy, comedy movie about vampires. Which is probably why Joss didn't like it, because that was not his intent.
I do prefer the TV Show by far, it was taken more seriously and had some darker elements to it. Not to mention the acting was far better. :0)
No receding hair lines for the teenagers at Sunnydale High school :op

message 25: by Marc (new)

Marc (authorguy) | 348 comments Kai wrote: "maybe the problem with the movie was the 90210 guy "

I've heard that the problem was Donald Sutherland, who was basically able to have his way with the script. No definite knowledge on the matter, though.

message 26: by Brooke (new)

Brooke | 0 comments That's what I've heard too, Marc.

message 27: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (melobrien) I love Buffy!! No really really love it. So whats that I read about Firefly?? Is that a show? I’ve seen the DVD in stores. Is it worth buying?

message 28: by Marc (new)

Marc (authorguy) | 348 comments Firefly is the best show created in the last 10 years, and given that that means better than Wonderfalls, Pushing Daisies, and Dollhouse, is saying a lot.

message 29: by Lara Amber (new)

Lara Amber (laraamber) | 664 comments You will have to turn in your geek credentials if you don't watch Firefly and Serenity (in that order) in the next 60 days. Submit your time sheet with a witness signature with your paperwork.

I second that! And even if you've seen Serenity, it's much better after watching the Firefly episodes.

Has anyone watched Castle with Nathan Fillon? It's a mainstream detective show but his humor is the same.

message 31: by Brooke (new)

Brooke | 0 comments I watched the first episode of Castle and was very underwhelmed, it felt like a detective procedural that I've already seen dozens of times. I really want Nathan to star in something that I actually want to watch (he just killed me when he joined the Desperate Housewives cast) but so far no luck.

Rent Firefly
I would not want to lose my geek credentials. lol

message 33: by Jim (last edited Apr 09, 2009 12:18PM) (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) You won't be disappointed! Watch the 2 part episode first. It was supposed to be the intro, but Fox got a bug somewhere & turned it into episodes 10 & 11 or something. Really dumb. It's a great first 2 hour episode!

Watch Serenity after. Excellent cap to it all.

message 34: by Lara Amber (new)

Lara Amber (laraamber) | 664 comments I'm looking forward to Melanie's Monday post:

OMG, why was this canceled? Why? (some tears) DAMN YOU FOX!

Lara Amber

message 35: by Libby (new)

Libby | 270 comments yep - that was pretty much how I felt when I watched the DVDs - stupid FOX and their stupid reality TV! Why do people want to watch people make asses of themselves on national television instead of creative, quality, well written shows?!

message 36: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) I'll second, "Damn you Fox!" & the tears, too.

They never advertised & BURIED Firefly in odd hours on the weekend. If it had been anywhere near prime time or even advertised a bit, I might have caught it earlier, rather than the last show or two. As it was, it was gone before I knew it was on!

Who watches TV in the middle of the afternoon on the weekend? (It was on at 2 or 3pm on Sat or Sun, as I recall.) Unless I'm sick, I'm out doing stuff then. And if I'm sick, I'm sleeping then. I knew "The Woodwright's Workshop" was on at 3pm on Saturdays for years & still rarely managed to catch a show. Thank the gods for DVR.

message 40: by Jackie (last edited Apr 24, 2009 09:08AM) (new)

Jackie (thelastwolf) I watched Buffy until the Angel spin-off, which I preferred. After that I only watched Buffy intermittenly and when nothing else was on.

message 41: by Marissa (new)

Marissa | 28 comments Honestly, how can you not love Buffy? I love all things Joss Whedon, have all the lyrics to "Once More With Feeling" memorized, and even read the comic. Don't forget Joss's Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog! A fantastic mini-musical. He wrote and produced it during the writers' strike to prove what you can accomplish online. I have that one memorized too. Any song involving freeze rays has to be good. I'm not sure if it is still available on iTunes, but I heard there was supposed to be a dvd release sometime. Neil Patrick Harris makes a fabulous super-villain wannabe. And Nathan Fillon as Captain Hammer! A must-see.

message 42: by Jackie (last edited Apr 24, 2009 09:09AM) (new)

Jackie (thelastwolf) Don't get me wrong, I like Buffy. I had limited TV time so I had to choose, and it was Angel. Hot sexy Angel.

message 44: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (bookgoddess1969) I have always been a huge Buffy fan. In fact, I just started watching the seasons again with my 14 year old son. It definitely lives on! (And I just might be the only geeky one here with the soundtrack to "Once More With Feeling" on my iPod! I love it!)

message 45: by Paul (new)

Michelle (chellatrix) | 2 comments Another Buffy fan here. Yes, I have the box set, yes, I have the OMWF soundtrack, yes, I continually spot people on shows, wonder where I've seen them before, and it's almost always from something in the Whedonverse.

If it hasn't been mentioned, Amber Benson (Tara) is on GoodReads as an author. Felicia Day (Vi from Buffy/Penny from Dr. Horrible) is here as a reader.
