Anyone else reading this? I'm a few chapters in and it's a bit like old-school pulp sci-fi or space opera. Or a novelisation of Frontier: Elite II...!
Just bought it. I shall give it a try:)Must remember to switch on my kindle and download. It might not be for a week or so yet:)
I shall try and get a wriggle on with the book I am currently reading and make a start on this.
Just started it. Definitely concur that a few chapters in an has an old-school pulp sci-fi feel with a touch of parody. Quick pace so far.

About to start this:) I actually haven't read any sci-fi for a while so will be a nice change from all the fantasy, mystery and romance.
I love the language, amusing and easy to follow but at the same time it draws you in.
I can't get to this book's Goodreads page anymore - the screen just goes blank. Anyone else having problems?
I've finished it. It was entertaining, but not quite what I expected (I left a short review). I'd be interested to hear what others thought.
Still reading, I have just got to the bit where they are getting the team together. I may not finish by end of the month but I will finish and leave a review. Enjoying it so far :)
I was surprised about the revelation about Archer, or at least I would have been had I not read the spoiler:)I am liking some of the phraseology, and the dry rather dark humour. The group are an interesting bunch and I love the ship:) I have picked up a lot of sci-fi influences in there.
Just finished it. It did seem to veer with the revelation about Archer and I'm not sure in a good way. Pacing was good, agree that phraseology seemed to work, and was entertaining. However, I think there were too many sci-fi influences. I get that the goal seemed to be to throw everything together, but the various influences didn't always seem to mesh well.

Hehe no don't worry, was my fault for reading it. I am terrible like that. I am one of these people who looks for spoilers online:)I have to say it was like.... hmm no evidence of that before so interested to see where it goes.
I'm curious if anyone else found it bothersome how few female characters were in this book? Then again even though I'm a guy this is one of those areas I might be oversensitive on.

There again, other recent space opera treats were mostly stuff by Alastair Reynolds and he does have a lot of good female characters (though the 'romance' in Century Rain was unconvincing).
I didn't really notice until it was pointed out, and I am female:)You do have to agree the female character was a strong one though, Juni did NOT take any crap, and she was brave and resourceful, often more than the men.
True. Juni was a strong character. She went a little Padme/Leia at the end, i.e. became a weaker character once she got a boyfriend. I can forgive that as it's a hard balance to strike when you have a strong, independent character soften emotionally towards the protagonist.
Lol would love to see the rows those two have. I bet she will be the one in charge there:)

That wasn't me, that was KM:)I never watched Firefly.
You should watch Firefly. :) Though I will say Wash and Zoe begin as a couple, but it is a good example of a strong, decisive female character who isn't weakened by having a significant other.
