Must remember to switch on my kindle and download. It might not be for a week or so yet:)

I am liking some of the phraseology, and the dry rather dark humour. The group are an interesting bunch and I love the ship:) I have picked up a lot of sci-fi influences in there.

However, I think there were too many sci-fi influences. I get that the goal seemed to be to throw everything together, but the various influences didn't always seem to mesh well.

That's the last time I leave any spoilers...

I have to say it was like.... hmm no evidence of that before so interested to see where it goes.

That struck me, too. There again, other recent space opera treats were mostly stuff by Alastair Reynolds and he does have a lot of good female characters (though the 'romance' in Century Rain was unconvincing).

You do have to agree the female character was a strong one though, Juni did NOT take any crap, and she was brave and resourceful, often more than the men.

Unless it's Wash and Zoe in Firefly, of course...

Though I will say Wash and Zoe begin as a couple, but it is a good example of a strong, decisive female character who isn't weakened by having a significant other.
