Easy game - post a cover of a book and the next person posts their impressions.

The Sandman The Dream Hunters (The Sandman #11) by Neil Gaiman

message 2: by Kristen (new)

Kristen | 1179 comments Very interesting. I'd pick it up if I saw it in a store.

Eyes Like Stars (Théâtre Illuminata, #1) by Lisa Mantchev

I like it. Although I'm bound to be disappointed when I discover that's not actually Dizzy from Guilty Gear.

Goblin Quest (Jig the Goblin, #1) by Jim C. Hines

message 4: by Kristen (new)

Kristen | 1179 comments Ummmm. It's a little cheesy for my tastes...

The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake by Aimee Bender

message 5: by Kayleigh (new)

Kayleigh | 195 comments Meh, doesn't really make an impression on me.

The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman

message 6: by Kristen (new)

Kristen | 1179 comments I love the book, but I think the cover is a little boring.

Howl's Moving Castle (Howl's Moving Castle, #1) by Diana Wynne Jones

Mike | 1505 comments Mod
I like it. It has an endearing quasi-cheesiness to it.

Sea of Silver Light (Otherland, #4) by Tad Williams

message 8: by Kayleigh (new)

Kayleigh | 195 comments Very intriguing. I've always liked Tad Williams. Haven't read the Otherland series yet, but I'd like to.

Dandelion Wine by Ray Bradbury

message 9: by Mike (new)

Mike | 1505 comments Mod
Otherland is longer than it needed to be (largely in the middle books) but I loved it overall.
---
The title interests me more than the cover, which is kind of bland.

All You Need Is Kill by Hiroshi Sakurazaka

message 10: by Kristen (new)

Kristen | 1179 comments It's so brown.

Anya's Ghost by Vera Brosgol

The design concept is amazing, but I don't care for the execution.

Until Death Do Us Part, Vol. 3 (Until Death Do Us Part, #3) by Hiroshi Takashige

message 12: by Kayleigh (new)

Kayleigh | 195 comments I like it. It has a great sci-fi action thriller feel.

Mortal Engines (The Hungry City Chronicles, #1) by Philip Reeve

message 13: by Kristen (new)

Kristen | 1179 comments It's colorful, which I like, but it looks science-fictiony. I'm not really into science fiction for the most part.

On the Map A Mind-Expanding Exploration of the Way the World Looks by Simon Garfield

I thought the cover looked pretty goofy, but then I read the reviews and put it on my READ list.

Thanks!

There's something really cool about the art style and the way this comes together. I like.

Talion Revenant by Michael A. Stackpole

Kristen | 1179 comments It looks like a bad tattoo. It made giggle inside :)

Lord of Chaos"

Yup - same here. :) A bit of a shame b/c I adore the book itself.

Which LoC cover? (you've got the link in your post)

message 18: by Kristen (new)

Kristen | 1179 comments Oops! I forgot to click the cover button! It's fixed now.

Hmm... these "classic style" fantasy covers run together a bit for me. The center character also look a little weird. Could just be the style though...

Just Another Judgement Day (Nightside, # 9) by Simon R. Green

message 20: by Kristen (new)

Kristen | 1179 comments The original Wheel of Time covers are notoriously bad, so don't worry if you don't like it. It was a test to see how honest you would be ;)

message 21: by Mike (new)

Mike | 1505 comments Mod
lol! No worries there - as many have commented on some of my reviews brutal honesty is a specialty of mine. ;)

That said I've seen much worse. This one was just kind of bland.

Not bad, though it doesn't really stand out from the other supernatural/urban fantasy book covers I've seen recently.

Zombies Vs. Unicorns by Holly Black

message 23: by Kristen (new)

Kristen | 1179 comments I like the art of this cover, but I wouldn't read it. It's got a very "Hot Topic", middle-school vibe.

The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger

message 24: by Mike (new)

Mike | 1505 comments Mod
If this is another honesty check, it worked. ;) I don't like it. I think this is the horse my best friend's two year old had in mind when he developed an intense fear of merry go rounds.

The Snow Queen's Shadow (Princess, #4) by Jim C. Hines

message 25: by Kristen (new)

Kristen | 1179 comments I think that lady in red looks kind of weird, but I like that this cover looks like it was hand done, rather than just an edited photo.

Hmm. Hadn't noticed before, but yeah, Danielle (Cinderella) looks rather odd here.

Wow that's a fantastic drawing of Ollie. Always loved the "picture in an arrow head" style for GA covers too.

Spider-Man Kraven's Last Hunt (Fearful Symmetry) (Amazing Spider-Man) by J.M. DeMatteis

message 27: by Kristen (new)

Kristen | 1179 comments I like the color palette and the Jurassic Park font.

The Distinctly Essential Dresden Codak Primer by Aaron Diaz

message 28: by Mike (new)

Mike | 1505 comments Mod
There's something both cool and disturbing about a calm scene involving someone examining their own detached leg (robotic or not). Love the style.

Blacksad by Juan Díaz Canales

message 29: by Kristen (new)

Kristen | 1179 comments Reminds me of Victor from Lackadaisy :)

To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee

I feel like I shouldn't like this cover for some reason, but I do. There's something about the style of the tree and the broken branch that works.

The First Book of Swords (Books of Swords, #1) by Fred Saberhagen

message 31: by Kayleigh (new)

Kayleigh | 195 comments Kinda cheesy. It has a very "typical '80s fantasy" feel to it.
City of the Beasts (Eagle and Jaguar, #1) by Isabel Allende

message 32: by Kristen (last edited Aug 12, 2013 05:17PM) (new)

Kristen | 1179 comments Hey, I've read that book! I like the middle part, but I don't care for the random pictures along the sides.

The Way of Kings (The Stormlight Archive, #1) by Brandon Sanderson

message 33: by Mike (new)

Mike | 1505 comments Mod
I like the background, but the character in front looks like he's directing air traffic.

reMIND Volume 1 by Jason Brubaker

message 34: by Kristen (new)

Kristen | 1179 comments The cat's design freaks me out a bit, but I love the linework and coloring.

The Carpet People by Terry Pratchett

Mike | 1505 comments Mod
Incomprehensibly weird but I still like the drawing. Author's name is WAY too big.

Astro City Vol. 4 The Tarnished Angel by Kurt Busiek

message 36: by Kristen (new)

Kristen | 1179 comments Question: is that guy made of metal? Because he looks like he is. That aside, I don't think yellow was a wise choice for font colors. It looks nice against the black on the right side, but blends in too much on the left.

Steelheart (Reckoners, #1) by Brandon Sanderson

message 37: by Mike (new)

Mike | 1505 comments Mod
Yep, good eye. Agree on the yellow, but not sure what color would be ideal.

Looks nice, but I have no idea what's going on.

Superman for All Seasons by Jeph Loeb

message 38: by Kristen (new)

Kristen | 1179 comments I like the color palette and the font, but I think that Superman looks weird. His face is all scrunchy.

Hearts for Sale by Julia K.

message 39: by Mike (new)

Mike | 1505 comments Mod
I adore it. Wonderful use of a limited color palette, and it's just plain cute.

Oracle (Penelope Bailey, #2) by Mike Resnick

message 40: by Kristen (new)

Kristen | 1179 comments By the look of it, this a very serious and very good book, but all I can think of when I look at it is how dumb her haircut is.

Mobile Suit Gundam THE ORIGIN volume 1 Activation by Yoshiyuki Tomino

Mike | 1505 comments Mod
Ayup. Doesn't it just scream "bad wig"?

Really like. Don't know if it's the pose, the coloring or the design of the title box, but there's a "classic" feel here.
