I agree. Religion is just to make people feel better. They believe in it when things aren't going well, and after that's over, it stays with them. They need it to be happy. Which I think is a little pathetic. It's like lying to yourself.
No offense to anyone, though.
No offense to anyone, though.
...? Why don't you (Lauren) stop telling people about themselves. Most of them are still trying to find themselves. So adolences do not want people telling them what they want or who they need to watch after them.
People need to be told what there is out there, they don't have to follow what their parents tell them.
Exactly, but they should go and find it themselves.

Marley wrote: "If I want an imaginary friend, I'm creative to think them up myself.."Marley, thats actually rather offensive. God is not an imaginary friend. Is that what you mean by that comment?
No, actually, it was a very good defense of why relgion is stupid. He is an imaginary friend, you talk to him for comfort, you can't see, him, and if you think logically about it there is no proof he is there.

Why?

When we have stupidity like that to deal with, are we not allowed to go out and 'convert' like so many other groups are allowed to do? How many times have they knocked on doors, but when we try that once, we're banned from it.

People like Monique Davis are close minded, tsk tsk. I mean, really. She says "I am fed up! Get out of that seat!" She's not even willing to listen to the other side.

Why Liz, because we don't agree with you? We are defending our beliefs, the point of the topic is to talk about why religion is bad or good, you think its good, some of us think it sucks, go ahead and attack atheists, it'll be hard because we're fact based not faith based.
I don't agree with that article which says that children shouldn't know athiests exist. I think that all children should know different lifestyles and religions so that they can have a better understanding. But I agree with Liz - these posts are getting a bit offensive. You're all completely bashing religion and not even looking at our posts with open minds, it seems. That might not necessarily be how you think you're reacting, but it sure is out it seems to me.
They aren't offensive, the topic is ask if the world would be better without relgion, these are our arguemants, how are they offensive.
They're offensive because, as I said above, it seems that you're trying to make religion look stupid, which it isn't. Whether or not you believe that God is real it doesn't mean that we're crazy or judgemental of people who don't believe what we do. And you're making it sound like we're idiots for believing in a God. Religion does tend to make people better, whether in morals or the way they act. Just because you believe it's because of false things doesn't mean that they can't believe in it, or that they're stupid for being good people...Now, this is my opinion upon coming here and rereadng some of the past posts. So, as I said, you probably won't agree, but this is how I feel.
WHAT THE HELL...If you are going to have a topic about relgion and allow its drawbacks to be mentioned, I think its fair that I get to say that it is stupid, because it is. And let's face it to me, Theist are imoral people, so saying that because I'm not a believer ME and people like me have less morals, is WORSE than me pointing out the obvious and true faults with relgion.
Ahem... I never said that you guys are bad people. Did I? I just said that religious people tend to have good morals. You're taking my posts the wrong way and having a tantrum about things that you perceived differently from what I meant.I understand that you're allowed your own opinion. But voicing it in a harsh way is ridiculous. I won't go around saying "ATHIEST ARE ALL STUPID AND IMMORAL AND COMPLETE MORONS." You shouldn't go around saying that religion is stupid or immoral. You should word it better, if that helps my point? Being harsh gets you honestly nowhere with me.
On the other hand, yes... Some religious people are immoral. I'll have to look up the statistics, but I do believe that a great majority of teenagers with actively religious parents or family and who believe in Jesus Christ are more moral than those who don't. Over half of our nation is religious. I'll try to find the stats to back that up.
You're taking my words the wrong way.
Jayda, I agree. Thats what I mean, guys. Jayda has got it right. I'm not offended because anyone disagrees with me, but because you are attacking religion, my religion, and God. Even if it is a debate on religion, it isn't all that sensitive to be calling God an "invisible friend" or saying "if I want an invisible friend I'll be creative and make one up myself" or "religion is like lying to yourself and that is pathetic". I think it is completely rude and uncalled for to be calling my religion and all religion in general "stupid". Not okay, guys, not okay.I don't call being non-religious stupid, so don't say my religion is stupid.
So thats why I'm offended.
"Religion does tend to make people better, whether in morals or the way they act"Right there, youa re saying religious people are more moral than atheists.
Liz, I'm not being offensive, what I have said is the truth. As, God is clearly not a visible friend... You say the debate is on religion, I'm staying on topic, now, you guys should to. Maybe I won't use the arguement if you prove me wrong, Go ahead and try.
xD You are so hilarious Marley. I didn't say that. What I meant was that religious people have a bigger reason for morals, which is why they have them. Athiests don't have an actual need for morals, though I never mean that they don't have them. Everyone has morals. It seems impossible to not have them. Religious people have, how about different morals than others. Is that better wording for you?God may not be a visible friend but that certainly doesn't prove Him wrong. That's why it's called faith. Faith is seeing with your heart, not your eyes. Just like you have to have faith that scientists are actually telling the truth :) There is no way to actually disprove God until you find a god and even then you'd be disproving your point.

You guys keep saying we said that religion is stupid. None of the examples you just listed even had the word stupid in them. You're taking what we say the wrong way. Well, at least what I say.

I honestly think religious people are just as moral or immoral as nonreligious people.

Okay, so the word stupid wasn't used from what I read on this page. But J, you did say it was pathetic:Which I think is a little pathetic. It's like lying to yourself.
Which is just as offensive as the term stupid :)
Marley wrote: "WHAT THE HELL...If you are going to have a topic about relgion and allow its drawbacks to be mentioned, I think its fair that I get to say that it is stupid, because it is. And let's face it to..."
Marley just said it is stupid.
Liz, I'm not being offensive, what I have said is the truth.I find that the way people interpret something determines whether it is offensive or not, just a word for the wise.
Indeed it is, Faith is also stupid, what makes your faith in god and your trust is he might be there different than trusting random people on the street you've never met?

I meant no one said it was stupid until after we were accused of it.

How else was I to say it without using the word pathetic?

Marley wrote: "Indeed it is, Faith is also stupid, what makes your faith in god and your trust is he might be there different than trusting random people on the street you've never met?"Why wouldn't you trust some random person on the street until they gave you a reason not too? Not that I'm dumb enough to go home with them, but until the person gives you an actual reason not to trust them there's no reason not to.
And that's what we're talking about Marley. You're being offensive and childish in your phrasing, whether you mean to or not.
WEll, I trust God less than a random person in the street, because if he is indeed how you paint him, I don't think he would be that nice of a fellow. And why thank you, I love being childish, just remember, you are responding to the child, what does that make you??
Marley, calm it down a bit. It's getting a bit out of hand. I disagree with religion and think the world would be better without it but be considerate of others feelings. And beliefs, bash it subtly =)
They said I was being offensive, just living up to the standards they've set for me...Besides I don't go calmly, I'll die kicking and sceaming, fighting tooth and nail....
Same way I fight!!!
Marley wrote: "Besides I don't go calmly, I'll die kicking and sceaming, fighting tooth and nail....

"... I don't think he would be that nice of a fellow."Why not? Please elaborate :)
"... what does that make you??"
I'd call myself a mature and literate teenager.
OMG, it hurts sooo bad.Because you always responed, making you as bad as me. You may not think you are offensive, but to me you often are.
He sends many people to hell and threatens others with the danger of it.
I may not responded as quickly as usual, as I am now making many bathroom runs, Me sick, very sick..
I never said that I wasn't offensive. I said that I was mature and literate. Mature meaning that I can handle situations better than children and literate meaning that I use big words, in my mind xD And yes, of course I respond... That's why I'm in this group...How do you know how many people He sends to hell? He doesn't threaten us with it, either. He tells us that if we don't repent that we can't live with Him, not that we're automatically going to hell. We'll be judged perfectly after death and depending on our deeds He will decide what happens with us: whether we go to one of the three Kingdoms of Heaven or to Outer Darkness/hell, which really, I think the latter is only for the absolutely terrible people. Hell isn't necessarily going to be burning and torture and such. It'll be knowing what you could've had - living with your Heavenly Father for eternity - and not being able to have it.
Omigod Marley. Be mature and apologize. You can realize that people took offense to your comments, therefore instead of arguing it over and over, you can just put it behind you and apologize.
YAY in that case give me a one-way ticket to hell so I don't have to be with the stuck-up religious brats at my school. Let me be in a place where I can live with others that accept people for there sexuality and don't get offended at words. Let me be in a place where that exists, and I'll find a way away from the murders, because once I'm there, I'll have nothing else to do!! I SHALL NOT APOLOGIZE for my beliefs, and my opinions.
Wow.Marley, you shouldn't have to apologize for your beleifs. That is what you belive.
You most definitely should never have to apologize for your beliefs. I do however, recommend apologizing for insulting other peoples' beliefs. There is a big difference. You do not get a ticket to hell, you are a good person as far as I know. People accept and tolerate those who are different, all of us included, but it is important to know the difference between stating what you believe and insulting what others believe.
