@All in my humble opinion in nearly all of Umera Ahmed's novel females are shown as the most downtrodden people of our society... my question is are females really that downtrodden?? plz dont be gender biased and be objective... those who cant plz dont participate and make this a heated topic

message 557: by [deleted user] (last edited Aug 05, 2014 05:32AM) (new)

I'hv not read a great deal of her novel, merely the one read was Shehr-e-zaat and it can't get fit in your question. The others like Zindagi Gulzar ha, Well, there are so many Kashafs around me struggling to sustain a better life, rooting themselves in studies and hoping for a golden future. Meri Zarra-e-benishan? Trust me! the same situation happened in my family at one time.To in sbko mila k I affirm k wo jo b likhti hai, true to reality hota.If u felt women are being portrayed as miserable then they're!I am not being gender-biased here but they're like this. Not saying bcz im a girl but bcz i hv seen such girls. After all, a writer will write what (s) he will see falling out around him/her.

Did i make any sense?:P or did i spoil ur question?:P

message 558: by Sohaib (new)

Sohaib | 6884 comments Nope u havent... but I have seen females being treated really well... in our society we give them preference in nearly everything be it ques, be it care of parents or be it preference on their words... yes there are people who do treat them really bad but i havent seen them in majority for any woman to start a whole campaign on it... or has anyone actually seen a village full of females being treated like slaves??

message 559: by Komal (new)

Komal (k0k0) | 219 comments Nope. But seen an entire country treat females like slaves.

han apka rol pratha chly ga....ab thk he...??:p

message 564: by Sohaib (new)

Sohaib | 6884 comments @Preeshay well I still stand by what I said... In my circle females arent treated this way... and let me tell u my circle is really huge... again I am not saying that there arent any grievances... but then who doesnt?? :-)

message 565: by Komal (new)

Komal (k0k0) | 219 comments That's because, Sohaib, the men are blind to the oppression of women. They don't know when it occurs, they are unable to identify it and they usually classify it as something "normal".
And please let's not start a debate about this. :P

message 566: by Preeshay (new)

Preeshay (goodreadscompreeshay_pari) @Sohaib thats the point! everyone ov us thinks that the world ov his eye is the world in total..!! am i wrong..??:)

I have punbaji and urdu speaking ancestors so my accent is mixed..more on the side of urdu but I don't get why people like fancy accents?

message 573: by Maira (new)

Maira | 5852 comments Mod
I was not pointing it at you Z. it was a general observation.

I don't think they are fancy its just that some people here (Pakistan) get crushes on people with accents and they make it sound like having them is something unique hence the name 'fancy'. why do you think people support such ridiculous ideas?

it is sooooo not fancy!!!

message 575: by Maira (new)

Maira | 5852 comments Mod
That's a good enough reason for any sensible educated person, but I think some people fall for the stereotypes that come with accents. Maybe its just me thinking like that? Who knows.

message 576: by [deleted user] (new)
