Looking for suggestions on a good book for the group to read together. We can get a few titles and vote on which one we want to start with.

Montezuma the Third wants to re-establish the Aztec Empire. Having taken over Mexico, he uses mysterious explosions to lead his armies into the United States. Can Operator No. 5--America's premier secret agent--stop this bizarre threat?

Vardan Partamyan (vardanpartamyan) hmm, are self-nominations acceptable? If yes, I will recommend reading my novel, if not there are thousands of nice and pulpy books we can read together! 3:)

Lets try to get two more suggestions and we can put it up for a poll.

message 5: by Vardan (new)

Vardan Partamyan (vardanpartamyan) OK, here goes nothing! The After/Life The After/Life by Vardan Partamyan

The After Life is the story of Nad Raven - a young man, whose childhood is shattered by a cataclysmic event that leaves him trapped in an underground vault with a few other survivors of a modern day apocalypse. It is a tale of a small community that tries to move on after all hope seems to have been wiped out by an all out nuclear war. With our planet turned into a grim wasteland, the protagonist discovers that even in an isolated micro society there is love and hate, grief and happiness, valor and treason as well as that overpowering human temptation to find out what is out there - beyond the safe walls of the underground shelter. To find out, Nad embarks on a dangerous journey that holds many dark secrets... a journey that will change his life forever...

and just as a proof of pulpiness, here's a line from a review I received. It was the final sentence of a 5 star "must read" review on Amazon:

"The giant radioactive squid monster was fantastic ... loved that part." :)))

Thanks! But do confess, it must have been the radioactive squid that sold it for you wasn't it? :DDD

Well.... I do like a good post apocalyptic story (reading William Johnstone's Ashes series now), but I have to admit... You had me at the radio active squid.

Vardan Partamyan (vardanpartamyan) :)I knew it! By the way, I just found out that the cover for The After/Life won an award for best fiction cover here: http://www.thebookdesigner.com/

How do you submit a cover? I have a couple I would like to send in.

hey John, you're very welcome. It's all dark woods out there for the self publishing tribe and seldom do you find a website that means well. Still, a lot of the stuff is still non-universal meaning there is no one correct way forward in self-pubbing its just groping in the dark until you find your reader or they find you or you don't find each other and keep wandering through the purgatory of unsold books :)

Part of why I started this group is to help authors connect with readers. It is hard to "find" your audience. I hope this group might be a stepping stone to pairing authors and readers.

Jamina (jamij) I've not ready this one but it looks like a lot of fun: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/99...

Jeff that is an excellent undertaking and as long as we can keep that author/reader balance and not become a group of writers advertising to other writers (and that means myself) all is going to be well :)

Vardan Partamyan (vardanpartamyan) There is one thing I would like to share with the members of the group concerning The After/Life novel. All the royalties I have so far received for the novel (something like 80$) and all the royalties I will receive have been and will be donated to an orphanage in Gyumri town of Armenia. It is a special needs kids orphanage - the only one in our country. The building of the orphanage has been renovated by the foundation I work at but the kids still need that extra attention - the toys and the clothing and that little things that make them feel that there is still kindness in the world and no matter how hard the challenges and long the way there will always be someone to hold your hand and help you along on your way forward. As I move forward with this initiative, watch this space to see photo-stories on what's been accomplished.

Are you on Twitter? That is a great outlet to get the word out.

Mine is @MortisG187

message 24: by Vardan (new)

Vardan Partamyan (vardanpartamyan) nope, that is the one social network that I have so far skipped :)

I resisted Twitter for quite a while.... Now I embrace it. You can reach SOOO many more people with it. With one tweet and a couple re-tweets, I can reach 100,000 people in a flash.

You might consider checking it out. I'll throw a couple tweets about the book out there for you.

message 26: by Vardan (new)

Vardan Partamyan (vardanpartamyan) wow thank you so much Jeff! That is just so great! :))))

Mark McLaughlin (mark_mclaughlin) | 15 comments Might I be so bold as to suggest Monster Behind The Wheel by Michael McCarty ...Monster Behind The Wheel, a novel I wrote with Michael McCarty?
:-)

MONSTER BEHIND THE WHEEL first came out a few years back as a hardcover collector's edition, and was a finalist for the Bram Stoker Award for Best First Novel. That edition is long sold-out, but it is now available on Kindle on Amazon.com. It's filled with zombies and other horrors, roaming a supernatural landscape built of undead flesh and blood.
