I liked her too. I would have liked to see more interaction with her but not at the cost of the story.

Oooohh, you're making me want to read. Right now LOL And I can't until the girls are up and off to school and I've had my morning walk. I think the laundry is going to wait today ;)

Susan (susayq ~) (susayq) | 257 comments If my clothes had a mind of their own, they would know what I'm doing today cause I put off doing laundry to read. Often. LOL

I'm about to start chapter 6, and Georgette seems kinda like a typical heroine so far, she just had a bad night. Lol. But James is different to me, from what I gather he's from a titled family but refuses to accept the lifestyle that brings so he's working to make his own way as if he were some normal person. I'm kind of intrigued by it, though I can tell already that he's hardheaded. I'm already hooked on the story, can't wait to read on and figure out what the heck happened. It's like the Hangover movie :)
I also am interested in William, James' brother, kinda like him already. And who's the chick in the bath in Georgette's room? As for Cousin Randolph... yea, he's an ass already with his trying to force her to marry him and his attitude. Don't like him, and I'm feeling he's part of the explanation somehow...

message 164: by Giulia (new) - rated it 4 stars

Giulia | 1756 comments Kit, you're right, James is the second son of an earl. It's actually very interesting I think, that the hero isn't the first son or a peer himself. I can't remember any historical I've read where the hero comes from the peerage but isn't in line for the title directly. I thought the author did a good job with her treatment of the second sons. It's my understanding that male children born after the heir went into either the clergy or the army.

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 21897 comments I'm not very far along, either. Ready to start Chapter 5. What page are we supposed to be one today? Or is that out the window?

message 172: by Lisa Kay, Tinker Bell (new) - rated it 4 stars

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 21897 comments I'm reading kind of slow; Real Life is getting in the way. But then, we did start early. I'm getting ready to start Chapter 9. Anyway...

Dhes' Question: As you read, I'd like your first impressions of both Lady Georgette and James McKenzie. Are they typical historical romance characters? What do you think of their...predicament?

Lisa Kay's Answer:
I quite like Georgette & James. Georgette was a little on the panicky side in the opening scene, but I can't say that I wouldn't feel the same way, if I found myself in the same situation and couldn't remember what happened. Though, I'd like to think I'd stick around. But maybe that is my older self talking and not the woman I was when I was twenty-two.

Are they typical? Hmmm. Yes, in that they are both "beautiful" people, but that doesn't bother me. They both also suffer a bit a anachronism, Georgette more so than James, but it isn't really bothering me, either, as the setting and details of the era seems so well done. I do feel like I'm in a medieval village and they go about their day trying to figure out what happened.

Interestingly, I find myself enjoying their tug-of-war feelings they are feeling about their attraction to one another, and what they should do about it. This is not the typical "male-in-pursuit" theme. Well, it is, but the reason for the pursuit shifts, which is funny.

Their predicament, which has definite overtones of the movie Hangover, is actually quite fun. Sort of a "Medieval Hangover," if you will. Though, at this point I'm finding the mysteries along the way building more than stumbling across any answers. Which are:
1. Are these two legally married or not?

2. Who took James' money pouch?

3. Just what did Cousin Randolph do that lead to this all happening? Is he who Georgette needs protection from?

4. When, when, when are they going to feed that poor wee baby kitten?

5. What did Georgette do in the back alley of the Blue Gander with Joseph to earn herself a dog?

6. Where is Caesar? And why isn't he with James?

7. Are we going to find out why they "tarred & feathered" Georgette's feet for the wedding, or is that something I'm going to have to look up on the Internet?
However, all these accumulating mysteries aren't bothering me, as it is early days - or is that early hours? LOL!

message 173: by Giulia (new) - rated it 4 stars

Giulia | 1756 comments Lisa Kay, most of these will be answered. I have to admit, while I was reading, I had the exact same answers. I was also getting frustrated (despite being amused by all of this) because I was wondering how all of these were related. I couldn't help asking myself how two people so intoxicated managed to get into so much mischief in one night.

Susan (susayq ~) (susayq) | 257 comments I think it may be the intoxication that caused some of the mischief LOL

message 175: by Giulia (new) - rated it 4 stars

Giulia | 1756 comments LOL Yes, it did indeed, but how do you get into so much mischief when you're that drunk? I think most people would have a hard time walking!

Susan (susayq ~) (susayq) | 257 comments I'd have been sleeping LOL

message 177: by Giulia (new) - rated it 4 stars

Giulia | 1756 comments The one time I was even close to that drunk I found it hard to walk without walking into walls. I kept ending up on the floor. It so wasn't worth it.

message 178: by Giulia (new) - rated it 4 stars

Giulia | 1756 comments I've only been drunk twice. Both times I over-estimated how much my tiny body could in take. I felt totally in control, just happy and then WHAM! Walls were moving and the floor was shifting. I never want to even be close to being so drunk that I can't remember what I did etc.

Susan (susayq ~) (susayq) | 257 comments The only time ever been falling down drunk I decided I needed a bath and passed out in the tub. And I was in high school then. I was horribly hungover the next day and haven't drank like that since. In fact, I could probably count the number of alcoholic beverages I've consumed in the last 3 years on one hand LOL

message 180: by Giulia (new) - rated it 4 stars

Giulia | 1756 comments Falling down drunk is not fun.Thank God on those two occasions I did not pass out or lose my memory. The hang over headache is enough of a bitch LOL

message 181: by Lisa Kay, Tinker Bell (new) - rated it 4 stars

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 21897 comments Oh, I've been pretty drunk a few time in my life. Not so much fun! I prefer to be just tipsy.

I do have a good friend whose husband is a wonderful bartender, in that he can make a drink that tastes so good you don't realize the amount of alcohol in it. He was very good at getting me drunk; nevertheless, I've learned my lesson with his skills.

Yes, I never was a big drinker and I find I drink less and less over the years. I like a nice glass of sherry, still. Wine I only use for cooking. I can't remember when I last had a piña colada; used to love those...

message 182: by Giulia (new) - rated it 4 stars

Giulia | 1756 comments I love wine :)

Susan (susayq ~) (susayq) | 257 comments I'm not a wine drinker. I do like mixed drinks, the occasional beer, but my fav is Southern Comfort and Sprite.

Susan (susayq ~) (susayq) | 257 comments Mmmm Mudslides ;) when I drank often, that was my drink of choice. That or a margarita if the bartender didn't make them. I haven't had one in a few years though.

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14528 comments I have never been much of a drinker, however, there was the time that involved tequila.... 'nuff said!

Kit★ (xkittyxlzt) | 648 comments Hmm... I've been drunk and hungover more times than I can count... But I usually remember what happened :)

message 187: by Pamela(AllHoney), Fairy Godmother (new) - rated it 4 stars

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) | 14528 comments Yes, but Georgette had a bit more reason to forget than just a few cups of brandy. Don't want to give spoilers but you who have read know what I mean.

It freaked me out. I just couldn't imagine it! Did it bug anyone else?

Me too! In my review I posted an image of how I imagined James, and it wasn't nearly as bearded as he was, I'm sure. I just couldn't handle it.

message 198: by Giulia (new) - rated it 4 stars

Giulia | 1756 comments I adore stubble. Even a bit of length, so long as it's scruffy but still not hairy, I like. My ex wore his beard at all but wooly lengths, and I loved each of them. I love a guy who can sexily sport facial hair. I will say, there are a few who can't don't it--it just doesn't look sexy in some cases. But the facial hair on James so didn't bug me.

Kit★ (xkittyxlzt) | 648 comments I could envision it fine, a big chunk of the dudes I know have beards, lol. As for liking it? No, not into the Grizzly Adams look myself, though I do like a little bit of scruff on the face. Just not all full-blown beard. I just started ch 24 so I'm almost finished. In response to the earlier question about if anything bothered me while reading, not really. Though I am wondering why she just stands there when her cousin has gone on his tirades on her. Why is she not saying something, like 'hey, bugger off dude, I'm not marrying you!!!' She just froze like a rabbit. The other q, about liking Elsie, yes I like her very much, she's made me laugh a few times :)
