Jessica Waters | 1 comments I am very curious about the studies in the book that show how important early intervention is. I always had the belief that some kids are at risk of dropping out at birth. Do we start there? If so what do we do? I am not done with the book but just a thought as I am reading.

Heather Davis | 1 comments Hi Jessica. I'm new to the group and I don't live in RI, but I am passionate about education and have spent a lot of time reading, writing, and thinking about it. There's a wonderful little book full of good recent data called "Schools in Crisis" by Nicole Baker Fulgham--it might give you an overview. Yes, the stats about "doomed from birth" are somewhat daunting. But there is always hope. Tim Elmore's book "Artificial Maturity" gives us a good picture of some glaring mistakes we're making on the cultural front. And, my recent book, "Elijah & the SAT" talks about the testing culture, the pressures it puts on kids, some particular moments with my own kids, and the big picture of who and what any child is meant to be. Let me know if any of this is helpful:)
