(Rationale) My Second Novel "the Buddha in the Attic"

The second novel I have chosen is Julie Otsuka's "The Buddha in the Attic". It was the winner of the PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction National Book Award and Los Angeles Times Book Prize Finalist.

I am attracted by the story this book describes: a group of young women brought from Japan to San Francisco as “picture brides” and their new life in that completely unfamiliar country. There are too many challenges they have to overcome, too many unknown situations they have to face. I can smell the intense conflicts in cultures, genders, self-identifications, social values, and many other elements even by just reading the summary on the book cover. I am looking forward to exploring the struggling adventure with those brave Japanese young ladies.
