Anne | 32 comments I tried "50 Shades of Grey" just to see what the excitement was all about. I can't get through the first 3 pages! As a writer, it gives me hope. If that can be published, I know I can be.

message 302: by George (new)

George (sandanglokta) I didnt like The Secret by Rhonda byrne.I have read many philosophical books that were much more meaningful and not so generic,it was not a total waste of my time but i didnt like it much.

message 303: by J.R. (new)

J.R. Barker | 17 comments @sneha, I couldn't read Treasure Island all the way through because the characters annoyed me too much. I think I shall have to persevere though.

The Iron Dragon's Daughter by Micheal Swanwick.
It was like reading someone else's weird and uneddited dream.

It ended with the main character receiving a lucky rabbits foot for no appparent reason, being told off for not sleeping with the right people. Then she woke up and changed her life... Yeah.

message 304: by J.R. (new)

J.R. Barker | 17 comments @mandi, if they ever make 50 shades of Grey into a film I'll eat my hat... it's made of liquorice.

message 305: by Zsófi (new)

Zsófi Maier (zsoffedli) | 1 comments "Fifty Shades of Grey" by E.L.James. :/

message 306: by Evelyn (new)

Evelyn the books recently that I didn't like were The Alchemist and The Language of Flowers by Vanessa
Diffenbaugh

message 307: by Kirra (new)

Kirra | 12 comments Has anyone ever been forced to read Lockie Leonard. They are just about the worst books I've read. I also hate The Boy In Striped Pyjamas.

message 308: by Danielle (new)

Danielle | 3 comments the scarlet letter. had to read it for school and never finished it. it was just so depressing and sin this sin that monster child deal. i plan to try it again just to see how i feel about it now that its not an obligation and my taist has broadened but we will see.

Kara: what version of Frankenstien did you read? i personally liked Mary Shelleys 1818 version.

message 309: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 6 comments Fox's Earth by Ann Rivers Siddons. I have never not been able to finish a book but I had to force myself through this one. I also didn't really care for 50 Shades of Grey.

message 310: by [deleted user] (new)

Definitely War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells. Twilight was pretty bad but I kinda wanna give it another try.

message 311: by Betsyt (new)

Betsyt | 1 comments I hated The Perks of Being a Wallflower....I know, I know...I get the whole teen angst thing but it was just irritating...like a wool sweater on a 90 degree day...ick

message 312: by Jirka (new)

Jirka (jirkamalis) | 4 comments Axolotl Roadkill I can't get past page 20 because it's written in a style I don't even want to understand...

message 313: by [deleted user] (new)

Jonathan Livingston Seagull

Emily Craven (emilycraven) | 21 comments Kirra wrote: "Has anyone ever been forced to read Lockie Leonard. They are just about the worst books I've read. I also hate The Boy In Striped Pyjamas."

Haven't read the book but really like the movie...

message 315: by Tatyana (new)

Tatyana (tyana1040) | 5 comments As I Lay Dying by William Faulkner...uughh I like southern gothic but my dislike for stream of consciousness is even stronger....SOO CONFUSED

message 316: by Allison (new)

Allison | 269 comments Life of Pi. I don't understand why so many people like it, I could barely get through it.

message 317: by Melissa (new)

Melissa (missams) | 59 comments Perfectly Dateless (Universally Misunderstood, #1) by Kristin Billerbeck Perfectly Dateless. I loved how to book started out with a strong character wanting to go against her parents wishes and to follow her dreams, and then at the end of the book, she agreed with her parents and decided that their plan was the right plan for her. I understood that a big problem occur, but it was not that big for her to drop her plans in life and pursue her parents map of life for her.

message 318: by Paganalexandria (new)

Paganalexandria I have two answers.
The worst book I ever TRIED to read but ended in DNF is Love My Way by Bridget Midway . It was a weird mash up of a Simon Cowell, BDSM, So You Think You Can Dance, and The Bachelor. Enough Said.

The worst book I ever actually finished was

Blood Noir (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, #16) by Laurell K. Hamilton which I credit for freeing me from being an Anita Blake apologist. I could no longer pretend that this series hadn't devolved drastically. It was like my favorite series was hi-jacked by the same writer who made Marlena demon possessed on Days of Our Lives back in the day.

message 319: by Raevyn (new)

Raevyn "Lucia" [I'm in it for the books] (raevynstar) | 6 comments Kidnapped was awwwwwwwwfulllllll.

As was Westward Bound....

message 320: by Jodi (new)

Jodi (readinbooks) All of the Fifty Shades books. Worst writing ever. The other book I really didn't like was Atonement.

Avid Reader and Geek Girl (avidreaderandgeekgirl) | 1572 comments I don't remember if I posted this before, and I know many think this is a classic, and I had to read it in school but Lord of the Flies it was revolting and not that well written! The other one is another "classic" Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Courts

message 322: by Karen (new)

Karen (karinlib) I can't say that I hate a particular book, I just don't understand the hype. I thought Twilight was boring, Bella's whining got on my nerves. I didn't think The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was all that great (not much of mystery). I don't like James Joyce or William Faulkner.

Tess (books.with.tess) (bookswithtess) 'Fifty shades of Grey' Did not finish this crap...I tried! I honestly tried! :D
'The unlikely pilgrimage of Harold Fry' (that was such a let down!! It built up to something, but then the end was just....bleh...!! Annoyed the crap out of me...)
And a crime by a Swedish author. It was incredibly female-discriminating and awful.

COMPLETELY HATED IT "

Me too! I hated it! And i really thought I was the only one!
I think though Mafia Captive was worse.

message 325: by Ashima (new)

Ashima (ashimachoudhary1) | 20 comments erich segal's lovestory and oliver's story

message 326: by Tara (new)

Tara | 1 comments The Beautiful Creatures series was so boring, didn't finish reading the last book. Then they made it into a movie and the cast I thought looked way too old. Didn't go to see it though.

message 327: by Paganalexandria (new)

Paganalexandria I haven't read it yet, but T-Rex Troubles by Christie Sims is the worst book I can't wait to read. LOL

message 328: by N (new)

N | 276 comments Ulysees by James Joyce actually made me angry. You have all these English Literature Scholars going on and on about it and it's awful, yes I understand the concept of it blah blah but (I've said this before) it's like a Drunkard reciting The Jabberwoky over and over. Also the end of My Sisters Keeper aaarrrgggghhhh FURY and book throwing! Beautiful Creatures was boring, The casual Vacancy was yack........

message 329: by Allison (new)

Allison | 269 comments I was so mad at the end of My Sister's Keeper too!! Also the end of Handle With Care. Why can't they just have a satisfying ending??

message 330: by N (new)

N | 276 comments @Allison - because they are EVIL authors out to ruin our lives.

message 331: by Payal (new)

Payal | 46 comments The worst book I EVER read is Stolen : A letter to my captor. Oh MY god it was soooo sooo bad. It was very uneventful and that's not a very good adjective for a book. And the ENDING....the ending was absolutely pathetic. Extremely unsatisfactory. I was hoping for something good to happen at least near the end of the book but it just never came...

message 332: by Xxcreativebunnyxx (new)

Xxcreativebunnyxx | 24 comments Probably Vain by Fisher Amelie.

message 333: by Tess (new)

Tess Wilderspin Did anyone else violently hate the Hush Hush series?
I didn't think it was possible to hate something so much.
Full thought are here: http://tessburton.wordpress.com/2013/...

Would love to discuss!

message 334: by Katie.g (new)

Katie.g | 129 comments City of Bones. It was very poorly written and characterized. Ironically I like the next two books better. Haven't got onto the fourth yet as I thought that the series ended naturally at the end of book three.

I also did not like Fifty Shades of Grey but its not the worst Ive read.

message 335: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (goodreadscombulldogmom) Cathcher in the Rye-The very worst book ever! Why do teachers think this is such a "classic" that needs to be read is beyond me! As a JH/HS library aide I sympathize with all of our sophomore students that are required to read this terribly written book.

The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger

Jennifer (goodreadscombulldogmom) Kirra wrote: "Has anyone ever been forced to read Lockie Leonard. They are just about the worst books I've read. I also hate The Boy In Striped Pyjamas."

Oh that is so sad you didn't enjoy "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas". I so loved that book, very realistic fiction. The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne

Jennifer (goodreadscombulldogmom) Michelle Charlotte wrote: "Some people like the Uglies triology. I haven't read any of those books, don't even know what kind of books they are."

I actually liked the Uglies until Extra came along. When I recommend those books I tell them that they can read Extras but I don't recommend and the series ended fine without that book. The Uglies Trilogy (Uglies, #1-3) by Scott Westerfeld

message 338: by Alie (new)

Alie (alienicole) | 15 comments One of the worst books I have ever read is Beautiful by Amy Reed.
I don't normally like to call a book "horrible" but this one really was.

Since I was a young teen, I have always liked books that are centered around young adults with drug or mental problems. I have read quite a few, and probably like them because I had some experience with drugs and alcohol in my youth.

Beautiful was by far the worst that I read. It portrayed drugs and alcohol in an unrealistic way, the characters we're unlikable and unrelatable. The ending was rushed. It was just a horrible book, and sounded like it was written by a 15 year old.
I read the reviews on Amazon before I purchased it. And anyone who said it was a "realistic" outlook on youth and drugs had obviously never had experience of their own with it.

Actually the one and only Amazon review I ever wrote was on this book. The book completely lacked emotion most of the time, and when emotion was present is was way too forced. The characters we're bland.

Joanne Farley Chelsea wrote: "the worst book i have ever read was a brave new world by aldous huxley"

Oh I agree with you this one. I couldn't finish it.

message 340: by Gotobedmouse (new)

Gotobedmouse I think right now it would be The Dinner by Herman Koch by Herman Koch...I finished it but I did not like it...

Jess the Shelf-Declared Bibliophile (jessicalewis) I absolutely hated Wicked: the life and times of the wicked witch of the west..and even though I've never and will never read them, I loathe the 50 shades series.

Jess the Shelf-Declared Bibliophile (jessicalewis) Oh and I completely forgot to mention the twilight series. I trucked through all four to see what the hype was about and was indescribably underwhelmed. A 12 year old could write better than that!

message 343: by Autumn (new)

Autumn | 7 comments The Bar Code Tattoo (Bar Code, #1) by Suzanne Weyn I. this. Just don't. Ever. I'm pretty sure some vital part of my brain died when I read this.

message 344: by Justyna (new)

Justyna (yunia) Gossip Girl series. I don't remember which part, but it was bad. And not even crossing into the territory of so-bad-it's-good, it was plain horrible.

message 345: by Tessa (new)

Tessa (saymadrid) | 12 comments the worse book that i ever read this year was the 50 shades of grey trilogy.

Avid Reader and Geek Girl (avidreaderandgeekgirl) | 1572 comments My Antonia! worst book ever!

message 347: by Brandy (new)

Brandy The Host! I ended up having to listen to it since I just wanted to set it down all the time. I could not wait for it to be done. terrible! But all my friends and mother loved it.

message 348: by Brandy (new)

Brandy Erin wrote: "*Spoiler* The Host *SPOILER* was terrible, and apparently none of my friends thought it was weird that the non boyfriend guy (read it so long ago, forgot names) fell in love with an alien in anothe..."

Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was really hard for me too in the beginning, I kept falling asleep so I borrowed an audio copy and once it gets through all the political and stock parts it picks up and is good.

message 349: by Kristie, Moderator (Retired) (new)

Kristie | 5928 comments I DNF The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. I could not get into it, but it is one that I think I may try again in the future. Was the audio version good?

message 350: by Betina (new)

Betina (betina1) | 27 comments The Woman In Black is probably the worst book I've ever read... Actually I haven't finished it yet, I just don't think it's as good as the movie.. It's more boring, and really slow narrated.
