I hated Steven Erickson Gardens of the Moon, OMG! It was horrible, I had the worst time following it it was all over the place.
This might be an unpopular opinion, but I absolutely loath The Catcher in the Rye. I wouldn't have finished it if I hadn't had to read it for school. The style in which is was written was not my favorite, and I felt that I couldn't relate to any of the characters; even worse, that I disliked most of them. I don't think I will ever find a book I dislike more.
Elle wrote: "50 Shades of Grey is the only book I've never been able to finish. It was just so... stupid & badly written."Same Here. I have read lots of books & never left one unfinished but 50 Shades I just couldn't force myself to finish. I got to like Chapter 5 I think and gave up.
The Wind Done Gone by Alice Randall....historical parallel novel that reinterprets the famous American novel Gone with the Wind (1936) by Margaret Mitchell.
The worst book I read (or at least the one I can think of right of the bat) is "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas." I kind of had somewhat of an idea on what it's message was, but the characters were just all sooo WRONG.
Lady Chatterlys Lover, ugh. The Scarlett Letter bored me to tears. The Lovely Bones has an amazing opening paragraph, unfortunately it is the only part of the book I liked.
My sister loved the Lovely Bones and I'm going to read it soon. I hope I don't hate it as much as you do. I loved the movie adaption.
Oddly, the worst book I've ever read (and remember reading) has to be the Hunger Games Triology. I never really got attached like most people. It's not that I hated it-I'm not a fan of Katniss, at all-I just don't.
oh i LOVED the Lovely Bones!!! though i do know a lot of people who didn't care for it.i've never read the boy in the striped pajamas - but i cried like a baby watching the movie.
& even though i liked the Hunger Games... i didn't love it, ya know?
another book i didn't care for was the Mermaid Chair.
I hated Loving Frank and Eat, Pray, Love. I found Loving Frank boring and technical, then disgusting and Eat, Pray, Love insufferable. I think I may be the only one in my book club to have felt that way!

I agree with Jon. Like that movie about megashark versus giant octopus. W..."
Galileo's Daughter was a library pick and we could buy it for two dollars so now i own this truly bad book. so boring i told the group i was to old to read this and i was only 46 at the time.

Terry wrote: "Anything by Nora Roberts - ugh"i did not care for anything by Nora Roberts either however even though i know it is still her writing the book i find i do like the ones when she writes under the pseudonym J.D. Robb if you have not tried any of the death books by her go to thrift books where they are inexpensive and maybe give them a try.
Kayla wrote: "Dark Lover.... it was so bad that I just couldn't finish it."i did not like dark lover at all for the first twenty or so pages because it was so graphic however my sister convinced me to keep reading and i really ended up liking it i have the next two in the series and will read those soon but not now i have Faking It to read and i am looking forward to it to much to wait any longer. also i liked all of the twilight books and they were not nearly as violet as the black dagger brotherhood books. i had to get over the difference to appreciate it.
There are no bad books, there are Books and then there are piles of sounds, letters, words and sentences that cannot and should not be qualified as books.

Worst book ever for me though is Almost Moon by The Lovely Bones writer - really terrible book! and i love The Lovely Bones so much that i nearly cried at how awful Almost Moon was!!
Kate wrote: "Reaghan wrote: "I hated Loving Frank and Eat, Pray, Love. I found Loving Frank boring and technical, then disgusting and Eat, Pray, Love insufferable. I think I may be the only one in my book club ..."I will definitely stay away from that one, thanks!

I made it halfway through Dark Lover before calling it quits. I hated all of the characters and story line... and seriously, who wants to smush with some guy that comes busting in their home?!
a lot of people might hate me for this, but i couldn't finish Gone With The Wind.it was really hard to read for me.
old Southern English was just hard for me.
i'll probably read re-read it someday, if i'm required to do so, or just get the summary in wiki.lol.
I feel bad hating on books, and afraid to name drop. But I surprisingly have a few of them I just could not get into. Sometimes, it feels like authors nowadays try to piggyback off another books success, and try to be the next big hit in that genre. It killlls me when I see the exact same plot only with different dialogue every other book. I feel like it’s typically only YA novels/series I find that occurrence. It begins to get boring when you can predict what’s about to happen, and who gets the girl, bla bla. @_@
I'm almost ashamed to admit that I finished the Fifty Shades of Grey series, but I did, and they each got progressively more awful.I've also tried to give Wuthering Heights a go, but haven't been able to get into it. The language is just too different for me to grasp. It's a classic, so I'll give it another go, but I'm not too confident about it.
Classic books like that, I've learned, you just have to be in the mood for something like that. I love looove classic literature. But with so many great PNR and stuff out there these days, I feel anxious reading classics, wanting to get back to some adventurous stuff lol
The last book I finished was Gates of Paradise by Melissa De La Cruz from her Blue Bloods series & I want to say that I think that could have been an absolute great series but the author drug it out for too long & the ending seemed thrown together & pretty anti-climactic.
"The House Of Night" series! The 1st book was ok, but then it just went downhill even more. I don't get what people like about this series, it's so long and boring. Yeah, definitely waste of money for me.
Asha wrote: "For me, it was definately House of Night. Still feel like gagging when I hear the name."You can tell from this whole thread that there is a wide range of books people hate and just as many reasons why. But you hit it on the head, Asha. I think a "bad book" is definitely one that makes you just cringe every time you hear the name of it. Spot on!

I find it hard to read Southern English written phonetically a la Gone with the Wind, The Help, and Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. I use audio books to help with that. Great books, but hard to get through for me.
I would probably say the Fallen series. I know people love them and i can kind of see why. I even enjoyed the first book. But as i read the rest of the series it just got worse and worse. By the last book i was having trouble finishing i was so bored. I don't know what it was but i just could not bare them by the end.

Ashima wrote: "TWILIGHT and guess what i read all the series ..*sheepish looks*"Didn't love them either I also bought and read the entire series. The best one was Eclipse but even it at its best was only a three star. The last one was the worst. The Bree Tanner story was better than the entire series

feels better to find out that there exist more of my kind :P
lol I read even the ones that r horrible that way people can't say "u never gave it a chance or like you read them all to know enough about them." The woman makes too many mistakes, and she is rude towards her fans in my opinion. Also she writes her characters too perfect. The only reason it sells is because of that forbidden love theme.
it might be The Horse Whisperer. I hated the whole thing but have an OCD thing about books that I have to finish them so I suffered the whole way through it. I can't walk out of a movie either. even if its dreadful.
Maureen Paton's biography of Alan Rickman. I tried to read it, I really did, but I just couldn't. I'd heard it was bad, but I though that the fact it was about Alan Rickman (my favourite actor ever) would help me get through it. Not a chance. Rickman's life has been revealed terribly in this book and I feel guilty for reading it. I'll also agree with everyone on the House of Night series. Just stop already. She shouldn't have gone past the first three.
I used to be a big Star Trek books fan, and, the worst book I ever read was part of the Lost Years series. The writing was awful by a person who had no idea about the terms and events in the Star Trek universe. Also, I had a hard time enjoying "Children of the Jedi" by Barbara Hambly. Again, the sentence structure was all over the place and the dialog was stilted. It's funny, because, I enjoyed Hambly's Planet of Twilight in the Star Wars series, of which I've probably read 100 different books
