I had given up hope of finding this book, so I posted on this group. Someone on another group just wrote to me and identified the book!
Paintbrush in Paris: The Artistic Adventures of an American Cat in Paris by Jill Butler (Jan 3, 1994)
I'm so happy - off to order it right now.
This book is fiction, and might be classified as humor/memoir/art.
I *think* it was published by Chronicle books and purchased between 1992 and 1997, but I might be wrong.
It's a watercolor pictorial journal of an artist's cat experience in Paris. I think the cat travels from the U.S. to Paris at the start of the book, but I'm not positive about that. The cat works on putting together a solo exhibition, and everyday encounters, food, etc. are illustrated in whimsical watercolor drawings.
I think this author did another book with the cat, and possibly other non-cat books as well.
I used to have a hardback copy of this book, and sold it off when thinning out my library 9 or 10 years ago. I miss it and often wish I had it to read again, but now I can't remember the name of it!. It's a delightful small format hardcover, maybe 6 or 7 inches long. I would love to identify the book so I can replace my copy.
Thanks!

It's not:
- Minette's Feast: The Delicious Story of Julia Child and Her Cat by Susanna Reich
- any of the cat books by Henry Beard
