Grave Witch (Alex Craft, #1) by Kalayna Price
re-read from 3/14/13 - 3/16/13
4♥

Alex Craft is a grave witch who helps the police on occasion by raising a "shade" and questioning them. She is estranged from her family, on a first name basis with Death (who is yummy), has met a hot new detective ~ Andrew Falin and has a stone gargoyle named Fred. While investigating a case she is attacked by a "shade" and then an attempt is made on her life. To solve the case she has to work with the new detective and stay alive. One last thing, when she uses her grave witch mojo she is so cold after that she usually ends up picking up men to get her body heat back. This is the beginning of this urban fantasy series. This was just as fun a read the second time around.

cover: The Dead (The Enemy #2) by Charlie Higson
setting: Published in 2010

Review: This is not my usual genre of books that I read. I enjoy watching the show we are doing this week, but for some reason I dont enjoy it in the written form. There wasnt really anything wrong with the book, the characters were interesting and the story was well written I just didnt enjoy it.

Book: Nightwalker (Dark Days, #1) by Jocelynn Drake
Finished: March 20th
Rating: 3.5 stars
Review: I liked Nightwalker it was a good start to what looks to be an interesting series. I'm not going to lie, for the first part I couldn't keep focus on it. I'd pick it up read for a bit and find my mind going elsewhere. It was slow starting for me and I feared that it wasn't going to be as good as I had hopped it would be.

Shelly Bretheim (shellybre) I am considering The Fairy-Tale Detectives for this week. Would woods count for the cover/title sequence and would the series title The sisters Grimm count for title?

message 69: by Jennifer H (new)

Jennifer H No to woods by themselves. Yes to the Sisters Grimm for title points.

Jennifer H I just looked at the cover Shelly and I would say that the hand looks like a giant's hand and that would count for cover points :)

~Melissa~ I was looking at that book this morning as well but wasn't sure if we could read children's books. I just haven't had time to get on here to post my question.

Is it ok if more than one on the team reads the same book? If not no worries I'll find something else

Question for Jennifer, Dawn or Lizz - could you look at a larger version of this cover and tell me if the image down near her jeans looks like a scythe? Kind of does to me just want clarification. Thanks!!

Shelly Bretheim (shellybre) Week 3: Grimm

The Fairy-Tale Detectives (The Sisters Grimm, #1) by Michael Buckley
Finished on March 24

Review: I gave this book 4*'s. I really enjoyed this book. I read it with my 9 year old and we both got into the book. With the idea that all fairy-tales are real and living as real people in a town in upstate New York (very Once Upon A Time) I was worried how well written, and how believable the story would be. It was great, we were both hooked, and have started the second in the series as soon as we finished the first.

Review: This is a first in a series. For me it was rather confusing and took a long time for the story to get interesting IMO. Lots of character introduction in this one. The premise being that "Tales" have been brought over from their stories such as Tess Little (aka Little Red Riding Hood), Gran, The Charming's(Cinderella & the Prince) etc. Tess is the main character and is an Enforcer with the Tale police force working under none other than Al Addin. Crimes have been committed that appear to possibly be committed by Tess's former flames. She is to bring them in and find the murderer. I will probably give the second book a go to see if the pace picks up.

Book: Reassigned (Codename Fairy Godmother, #1) by Tanjlisa Marie
Finished: March 28th
Rating: 4 stars
Review: I drank this book, I gulped it down, I couldn't get enough of it.

Agent Thunder is a huntress with the Fairy Godmother Organization, she hunts down the humans who default on their wishes. All children who are granted a wish by their fairy godmother must repay that wish to another before they turn the age of 32. And if they don't Agent Thunder gets to pay them a little visit to help refresh their memory and she's good at what she does and gets much joy in doing her job. All that changes when she as a run in with a leprechaun named Ciaran.

What a unique idea for a story. So refreshing. As much as I love reading urban fantasy with vampires, werewolves, shifters, magic users, etc. I have yet to encounter a fairy godmother.
