Two for the Dough

I've had a really tough weekend, so haven't been able to start my book :( I'm planning to start it now and will hopefully finish soon"
It's ok, Camilla. Don't stress over it :)

As the World Turns
Wildfire at Midnight by Mary Stewart
Date finished: March 13th
Rating: 3 stars

I quite liked this story - it reminded me a bit about the few times I've read some Agatha Christie although not at all quirky like hers.
Good storyline and I didn't guess the ending, and it was very atmospheric throughout, but the fact is simply that crime/mystery is never going to be a favourite of mine :)

Review: An interesting story where a misfit falls in love with an alien! I appreciated how the story took time to let Alex and Ace get to know one another before they confessed their feelings for one another and Ace omg how could anybody not fall in love with him? but I was not altogether satisfied with Alex's father. Everybody was quick to judge Alex and Ace "dating" but nobody would explain the big deal of it and then her father forbids her to see Ace but again he doesn't say why exactly until all heck breaks loose and then it's just a feeble excuse if you ask me. I mean it was nothing dramatic and it would seem that alot of chaos could have been averted had he just sat his daughter down and talked to her even before he took her to Circe which is the place he has worked for several years and where Alex is now working in an internship at.

Date Finished: 3/13/13

After looking at the reviews for this, I think I'm in the minority when I say I liked it more than the first one in the series :) For me, there was just something about Tiago that pulled me in and I fell for him. Hard. Like within the first chapter. He was so rough and tough and then when he touched Niniane he became all soft and tender and I knew there was no way she could resist him.
I'm looking forward to reading the rest of this series cause I really want to see how the author will handle Tiago and Niniane's relationship with her on the throne of the Dark Fae and being mated to a Wyr. I also want to see how Carling (I liked her) and Rune end up together (and their book is next YIPPEE!!)

Walking Dead Title Sequence

Will go hunt for books now!

It doesn't have to be zombies! As long as it's apocalypse or trying to save the world - that could be any kind of "creatures" or none at all (e.g. virus-type scenario)

Jennifer, could you PM that book to me? I have one for Shelf, Plot, Title and Setting, but yours would be 1 more point, so if I have it, I could read that instead ;)

So, double-check the popular shelves for any book you might want to read as the lists are often rather random ;)

Warm Bodies by Issac Marion
Finished: 3/18/13

Review: this was my first zombie book and in all honesty, it will probably be my last LOL. This wasn't bad, but just not my thing. I like a little more romance in the books I read.
Points:
Setting - published 2010
Plot - zombies have risen after an apacolypse
Shelf - yes
Cover - zombies on cover

Walking Dead
The Dead-Tossed Waves by Carrie Ryan
Date finished: March 19th
Rating: 3 stars

I liked this book OK - I had really looked forward to reading the first book in the series, but that let me down at the end..
My feelings about this book was kind of the same as the first one - LOVE the world building and the idea! But while I do want character development and for them to think about what's going on, these books are just TOO heavy on CONSTANT internal dialogue about how "I would give everything in the world for..." - it gets old.. And the "conclusion" is worthless - I don't mind series, but at least give each book a decent ending!
So, points for story/world building, but minus for the annoying main character and bad endings.
Points:
Shelf: Urban Fantasy - page 82
Plot: Apocalypse - the world is overrun with zombie-like beings and our main characters are trying to find a different way to live/survive

Awww sorry you ladies weren't really into your books but I understand zombies don't appeal to all as they do to me. lol I loved the Carrie Ryan series and I been wanting to read Warm Bodies but just haven't picked it up yet. :(

I really like zombies as well (in the sense that I get really scared!) and I love dystopian writing, but the Carrie Ryan series is just ok for me.. :)

Meanwhile I'm halfway through my book, I hope to finish it tomorrow. Sorry for the delay, team. :(

Walking Dead (Week 2)
Dead Hunger: The Flex Sheridan Chronicle by Eric Shelman
Date finished: 3/20/13

Review: I liked it alot but it really was just your average zombie apocolypse story. Nothing really new was brought to the table. Group of folks fending off zombies trying to rebuild their lives with what they have available.

This was an interesting book - considering that I don't like zombies and don't understand why so many people are fascinated by them. It's main plus is the way it's written - in the style of a survival guide but taking zombies into account. It's obvious that Brooks has put a lot of thought into it (and too much if you ask me). The bad news is that now I know what to do in case of a zombie apocalypse - damn! :(
Points:
Shelf: Urban Fantasy - 1

Shelf: Fairy Tales
Cover: Scythe, Skeleton

Title: Grimm, Tale, fairy or Reaper

Happy Huntin'! :)

Edit: A key on the cover is accepted, so my book would be worth 16 points! :)

You Go Girl! I think mine is going to only be worth 13 points since full moon was a no go on cover but I think I am gonna go ahead and read it since I need it for another challenge anyhow plus I'm tired of searching. LOL

Jennifer, I know that feeling, I felt the same way last week. But 13 points sounds good anyway, so maybe it's time to stop searching. ;)

Very Michael Ende-like and that's pretty much one of the biggest compliments I can give :)

The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making by Catherynne M. Valente
Date finished: March 24th
Rating: 5 stars!

As I said, I absolutely LOVED this story! And I went in with some pretty high expectations, so I am really impressed with how much I loved it! It's just magical in the writing and the story and quite fantastic how Valente managed to make a story that transcends age... As I wrote, I reminds me very much of Michael Ende's stories - he was one of the few authors (in my opinion) who could write a wonderful tale for children while also writing a wonderful tale for adults and ALSO have a lyrical language! :)
So, enough gushing - just go read it already! :)
