I just finished an amazing love story. I don't want to give away too much from this book but I can tell you that is a love story. It had cheating and also domestic violence. I got it on kindle for just 0,99. If you have Amazon Prime it's free.

I would recommend The Healer which is set in Finland. Its classed as dystopian detection and I gave it 5 stars.

The strangest book I've read in a while is London for Immigrant suckers. No murder mystery, no horror, no vampires...It's probably fiction but...hard to say really.

This week I read this excellent non fiction book Odd Man Out

I don't know whether I'm on the right section here, I 'm new to Goodreads Discussion Groups and I'm finding it rather confusing, but on one discussion group I read that they were suggesting reading Time travel books. Try The Chronicles of St Mary's by Jodi Taylor about a group of disaster prone time travelling historians, whose job it is to go back to great events in history and chronicle those events for posterity. The books are a mix of fun, romance and history. The first is Just One Damned Thing After Another. I've read them all up to date and thoroughly enjoyed them.

Heavens, I hated Lord of the Flies. I had to study it for GCE's many moons ago. It's definitely a 'marmite' book - you either love it or hate it! LEP

Hi, Dora, I know you asked ages ago, but since your query has been brought back up, I have one for you. I liked The Summer Before the War by Helen Simonson very much. It's set in 1914 in a southern English village. It starts out very light, a little like Jane Austen, and gets more serious as it goes along. Very well written, I thought.

Karen Marie Moning's Darkfever series can be classed as dystopian. However, it helps if you have read her previous series first as some of the characters from that appear in it.

Well Martha Wells Raskura series certainly features the sea in some of the books. She's a great writer and I'd really recommend this series. It starts with The Cloud Roads and goes on from there with short story collections and add-on novels. Give it a try.

Try Marcia Willett - The Sea Garden. It is set in Devon/Cornwall.

This book has just come up in my recommendations and it seems just what you wanted: Florence (Florence Waverley 1) by Ciye Cho.

Amongst the various book genres I read, I also like some fantasy. Not vampires, but sword and sorcery type books. Here are some series I've read which are very good:

Karen Azinger - Silk and Steel saga
Jodi Taylor - The Chronicles of St Mary's (funny - time travelling historians, not sword and sorcery)
Martha Wells - The Raskura series and add on books (not sword and sorcery, but a marvellous series by a wonderful author). Starts with The Cloud Road.
Martha Wells - The Ile-Reine series. Starts with The Element of Fire.

There are others that I need to check on the authors for before I post them.
