composed on the spot especially for flight pathsSo Traveller, have you finished with the typing manuel?
I finally finished Hopscotch last night and trying to compose a review without being only vague superlatives or on the otherhand with no spoilers.
Well, very nice- you should put your poetry in your "writing" section so that people can show their appreciation with "likes". :)I've temporarily admitted conditional defeat. I do try to use more fingers when I type, but the typing drills were just too time-consuming and i thought I'd put them aside until i have more time for them.... Maybe i should do a single one every day at lunch-time or something.
Otherwise, reading tech stuff, reading Environmental ethics and philosophy, and trying to fit in an indie writer and joining the Mievillians Embassytown read starting Monday (for me today) at Mievillians.
Mags, your place there at Mievillians is a gaping hole, you know.
Ice wrote: "Popular books A Game of Thrones sometimes fall short of expectation."Sorry to hear that. So many people have 5-starred the book I was thinking about reading it as a guilty pleasure and/or beach read.
Reading Miss MacIntosh, My Darling 1 which has a Proustian density I wasn't expecting.
Also reading The Master and Margarita which is fun for reasons I can't yet discern. Maybe it's because of the cat who can hold a glass of vodka in his paw? Or Pontius Pilate talking comparative theology with Yeshua? Or something about the disappearances from apartment 50? Time will tell...
It may be age or the self published acquisition of 'competent (good)reader' status, but enjoying the plot and disliking the style of writing is fairly new to me.

In a pinch, I could endure style problems if the plot is engaging. I see Game of Thrones in stores everywhere, so I'll save it for an occasion when I find myself sans un livre in an airport or something like that.
BTW, I'm going to FNAC in Bordeaux tomorrow to look at a KOBO ereader. Anyone have any experience with KOBOs? I'm trying to avoid the Kindle/Nook war of attrition. Plan to use it for Project Gutenberg reading.

I was a hunt-and-peck typist for most of my software engineering career. I finally got Mavis Beacon and, before I knew it, I was typing like a pro.

Oh, i think there's a thread for every two weeks, and that was what i admitted to struggling with in the previous thread;- a touch-typing manual.
Yes, I'm so used to hunt-and-and peck, that I find I grow impatient with my hesitancy when trying to use all fingers.
Thanks for the recommendation, Robert, I'm definitely going to try that! :D
Ice wrote: "Just about to start The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn as I cant recall having read this before."Found the only book in English in the house where I was staying was The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, and toyed with the idea of rereading, until I remembered that I still have 3 books left to read from the ones I brought from Vancouver...and so I have dived into The Battle for God: A History of Fundamentalism and finding it very complementary to The Archaeology of Palestinewhich I am almost finished reading, but am using as a guide in my rambles here.

moi aussi, exactement
and as for Miss McIntosh, I could have sworn it was Ellie who was readingthis, and that I even thanked her for reminding me of it as it was an absolute favorite of mine some while ago. So I looked it up and lo, she is reading it now too. Is this planned?

It's quite dense and the original plan of reading 120 pages per week has quickly gone awry. Our original 10 week plan is likely to stretch much longer...
