Diane Lynn | 27 comments Started this section last night and maybe I don't have everything figured out after all.

Diane Lynn | 27 comments I really liked the South Africa portion of this book. I've only read one other book that took place in South Africa , Prester John. I liked it but it's a different sort of book, more adventure.

Misfit | 76 comments I'm just starting this. I can't decide who the hero/love interest is.

If you're interested in the Boer War, you might like Emma Drummond's The Burning Land. It isn't Drummond's strongest book, but it is still a good story none the less. War is hell, like always.

Your guess sounds like a real good plan for that strange Roger Lestrange (what a name for him). I liked that the two ladies have a successful school and a possible (view spoiler)

You have reminded me that I need to look into Drummond's books.

Misfit | 76 comments I think I've read enough that my guess was correct.

Drummond is good (also published under the name Elizabeth Darrell), a very nice blend of historical with a healthy dollop of romance. She can leave you hanging until the very last pages waiting to see if there will be a HEA. US libraries have copies of her books, so they shouldn't be hard to track down.

Diane Lynn | 27 comments I have her one set in Kashmir. My library doesn't have any of her books so I either do ILL at $2 a pop, whether they find it or not:( or I just continue looking at sales. It's not like I don't have enough books to keep me occupied.

And your guess may or may not be correct...

Your library charges for ILL? Are you serious? The only time I've been asked to drop $$$ is if the lending library wants a loan fee - and that's only happened once (U of Wisconsin).

**stops to kiss the ground upon which King County Library is built upon**

Diane Lynn | 27 comments I'm quite serious, and they want the $2 up front. Brunswick County, NC. I didn't realize other libraries did it for free. Now I'm shocked!

I would be pissed. I request ILLs all the time, and many come from very small cities/counties, etc. I've received books from very tiny cities on the Oregon Coast, Anchorage, university libraries, and even one from a Bendeictine Abbey in Oregon. The Midwest, the East coast, Alaska, you name it. Never once (except of W of Wisconsin), was I asked to pay a fee.

My assumption was that it was a reciprocal arrangement, so that the smaller libraries would have access to larger library catalogs, like King County.

I forgot to ask, what is an HEA?

Misfit | 76 comments HEA=Happy(Happily) forever after. Happy ending.

message 14: by Hannah (new)

Hannah (hannahr) My library doens't charge for ILL's either, and I'm in Forsyth Co., NC. In fact, I've currently got 2 first edition Beverley Nichols books from the 1930's via ILL. Am taking them back tomorrow.

message 15: by Diane Lynn (new)

Diane Lynn | 27 comments After hearing how ILL is handled in other systems, decided to call my library. I was told the $2 is for "postage" but no explanation as to why it isn't refunded if they don't find the book:(

Good to know, I feel I should have been able to figure that out!
