Liz M 20.9 - Kate's Task - Heretically
In recognition of the difficulties faced by the pope, read a book listed on Index Librorum Prohibitorum. If specific works are mentioned, they are the only ones qualified. When an author is listed without a specific work, any work by that author will qualify for this task.

Deedee | 2279 comments So .... does Les Misérables by Victor Hugo count?

The website states that the novel was interdicted "until 1959[3]"

Also, for the novels of Alexander Dumas, the list says "various novels", with the titles unlisted. So, do all of his novels count, or only some; and, if some, which ones? Thanks!

Les Misérables does count.

All novels by both Alexander Dumas(es) count. Enjoy!

Jane from B.C. (janethebookworm) | 62 comments George Sand is one of the authors mentioned on the Index Librorum Prohibitorum wiki in the 'other' section. No specific book is mentioned. Is this Five Comediesa viable option for this task?

Elizabeth (Alaska) | 14225 comments Any (or all) books by those authors in the "Other" section can be read for this task, so go ahead with George Sand. (And in my own behalf, can you imagine my delight when I saw *both* Balzac and Zola on the list?)

Yep, George Sand falls into the all works accepted category.

Anika | 2793 comments I wanted to read Sand's The Devil's Pool, but the most popular edition is the French one. Can I just type in my ISBN and use the edition info (The Devil's Pool) that comes up for that? (I know we normally have to post the most popular edition is why I wanted to check before I proceed...)

We will use the most popular English language print edition: The Devil's Pool, which has been updated and corrected to reflect 108 pages. You can, of course, read any edition available to you. Enjoy! (And thanks for asking - I might see if I can squeeze it in myself!)
