Rich | 472 comments You guys are wishing for too much.
I would settle for schools where they actually taught young minds to reason and think for themselves.

Preston and Roger are being empathetic with another member which is what we are all about so they are not asking for too much.

Also please refrain from even the hinting at complaining about other members by telling them their good wishes are wrong. There views are just as valid as yours and any other members. So please follow the rules and express your thoughts without telling others they are wrong in asking for too much.

I also feel learning can be and should be fun as well as instructional. I wish Julianna and all kids had the ability to enjoy learning their schoolwork through teaching subject matter creatively.

message 103: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (desdinova) Boyd, in his defense, he meant nothing ill in his remark nor actually said anyone was wrong. He meant it one way and when you read it, in your head you heard it another way. And I am in no way presuming to know what is in your head..I am stating that in this format we lack hearing the inflection in someone's voice which helps to determine if they are being mean or attempting a joke or trying to make the point that the school system here in the states where he lives is so broken that the kids don't even learn, let alone know the pure joy that can come from learning.
I wish I didn't have to jump to his defense . He meant no offense to anyone.
I also agree that learning should be fun and is more effective as an educational tool when it is. A good teacher imo interacts with the students and does not just read from a lesson plan in a droning voice.
Have Faith Juliana, not all teachers are trying to put you to sleep.

That's why we use emoticons and sometimes indicate our attitude in parentheses or brackets like I'm doing now >smiling<

Thanks for your comment and empathy with Juliana :-)

message 105: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (desdinova) You and Juliana are both welcome Boyd.

Please, tell me you are not suggesting I teach my father emoticons or anything like < this> !!! I still haven't taught him how to text on the phone and he is still learning how to use his e-reader! Oh the horror!!

:p

Jennifer you are criticizing a member of the Complaint Department by putting down Rich's progress with technology and his capacity to learn emoticons. You are hereby warned this is a gross violation of rule # six which states:

"6. No one is allowed to criticize their father if he is a member of the Complaint Department.

See the Complaint Department Rules at this link:

Shame on you ! >big-grin<

Eric Westfall (eawestfall) | 386 comments What are emoticons?

>snicker<

Although I do think that these are actual brackets: [ and ], while this > and this < are known in the writing biz as those-little-arrow-kind-of-pointy-thingies.

Rich | 472 comments Amazing that just a few days ago Jennifer cautioned me that on line my nuance
expressions and attitude did not always come through on line.
I claim immunity based on my profile where I represent myself as a character.
I believe it was Moses who said"If wishes were fishes we could all eat tuna".
{Example of my being a character}.
Best to all the 200! YES

message 112: by Roger (new)

Roger Kean | 17278 comments Don't you think Moses would have had a bit of a hard time thinking of "tuna". After all, he never saw the Mediterranean, because he never reached the land of milk and honey, and when he crossed the Red Sea it was dry (I know, I saw the movie).

I wish I didn't have to figure out if I counted as married or single on this goddamn paper work.
I wish I didn't have to deal with the company I work for being sold.

Wow Eze what a complaint! I'm sorry you have to depend on the legal system because it is very tedious.

in a foster home, turning 18 means my time is up

message 128: by Monika (new)

Monika | 3337 comments Hmmm, then there is nothing you can do about it. Try not to dwell on it but do best you can in your situation. I know it sounds harsh, but patting on shoulder won't change anything. How is it in your country? Do the kids leaving foster home have some support from social services (or other services within town/city you live in, here for example it's called family support center) or not? You don't know? Ask some brainy adults around you that you trust,e.g. from your foster home, or search online. Here for example FSC helps kids to continue education, find some housing and work. If there is nothing like that, don't panic. Look around you, or online, for some affordable housing, do the same with work (if you don't have one). If you feel overwhelmed ask some adults you trust for advice. I don't think they would turn you down.
10 weeks is not much but it may be enough to start your new independent life a bit calmer about tomorrow.

I might look into this program in the city next to me which helps youth find housing, but that would be at the end of the year becaise I want to finish my semester of school. But I hope they'll be able to help

Wren (wrenreaders) | 339 comments I'm thinking of taking next year off school to save some money and work

message 131: by Monika (new)

Monika | 3337 comments Definitely you should try. Here it's a lot going from one clerk to another, plenty of paperwork, but in the long run it can save quite a nice sum of money. Dig the Net for info about possibilities in your community or ask someone. Really, it may not be as bleak as you assume :)

Well, when it comes to school - also go and ask if maybe there are some 'discounts' (dunno if I can call it like that when writing about school ;)) or scholarships. Ugh, my translator says I should use 'grants' or 'allowance' ;)) Maybe you won't be forced to take a gap year. If not - not a big deal, lots of people do that :)
Most important thing is to not give up but make some plans :)

Oh I think you should definitely get a Gulfstream but perhaps you ought to add a Lear Jet to shopping list for those places without runways. And speaking of vertical takeoff those Lear Jets are not allowed to land on the roofs of skyscrapers in the worlds massive cities so you ought to get a helicopter for that.

So this woman puked in a taxi. Good thing you were in an airplane so you didn't have to deal with that. Good going! You the man.

message 140: by Rick (new)

Rick | 15794 comments I wish I didn't have to be the bearer of bad news...

Comics legend Steve Ditko has died.

Ditko is best known as the co-creator, with Stan Lee of Spider-Man and Doctor Strange, but he also created (or co-creator) many other characters like Hawk & Dove, The Creeper, The Question (who was in turn the direct inspiration for Alan Moore's Rorschach), Shade, the Changing Man, Speedball and the Unbeatable Squirrel Girl to name just a handful. He had a completely unique style that was an undeniable ingredient in the early success of both Spider-Man & Doctor Strange which left a long lasting and enduring impression on his fans and admirers.

He was very reclusive and did very few interviews over the years. The report I just found says his body was found in his apartment on June 29, and that he'd likely been dead for several days. Such a horrible end to an amazing career.
