Reserved. Love that cover!
I really want to read this! It's just that so many great books have come out this past month and I'm not sure asking the library to order 8 new releases for me is the best idea :-(
I have been waiting patiently for this one!
Do you guys have the book?
Not yet, I should be getting my income tax money and I have set aside $80 to go book shopping. It said 7-14 business days. This is on my list.
I may just go and get it tomorrow.

Yep. I'm going to set up a reading schedule shortly. Laura's been sick so she might not join us.

Some days my have more reading because I decided to split it by parts. Does it look good or should I readjust?

Questions and Comments for Chapters 1 - 10
1) So in chapter 1 we see the human side of the partial nature. The link seems pretty interesting. Both a blessing and a curse. It looks like you couldn't hide your feelings from others.
2) So one of the partials that is considered the "father" of all the others is slowly dying. Can you imagine knowing you're about to die and there's no way to stop it and it could have been prevented?
3) Samm seems to be leading a pretty lonely life. He gave up a lot to help Kira.
4) So Kira investigates the ParaGen buliding. Seems like a good move. Seems like ParaGen created a lot of interesting creatures. Do you think we'll see a dragon?
5) Interesting that the desks were computers, but I don't see that happening in the future, do you?
6) Who do you think came to the office? Could it have been Nandita?
7) I laughed at her trying to figure out what IT stood for.
8) I was a little surprised. I thought Kira would have made sure there was enough cure for others to use before she left. Seems like everything is a mess on Long Island.
9) I can't recall who Heron is. Was she the one who captured Kira with Samm? Is she still working with Dr. Morgan?
10) After finding out that Nandita and Kira's father worked for ParaGen I kind of suspected they were higher ups in the company. Why do you think she needs to 'Find the Trust' and where is it and what or who are they? It seems like Kira's trying to find a needle in a haystack.
11) Would you have gone to search for a mystery person whom you know nothing about?
12) Central Park with wild animals? Yikes! Panthers and Lions? Can you imagine? Did you watch the movie I am Legend? I guess that would give us a nice visual.
13) First impression of Afa? He kind of reminded me of the character Raymond Babbit, whom Dustin Hoffman played, in Rain man.
14) What a sad yet touching scene when Afa and Kira hug. Can you imagine thinking your the last human alive and not seeing another in 15 or so years?
15) Sounds like things went from bad to worse at the end of Chapter 10 for those living on Long Island.

@Kristin1) I am not sure that I would like to be linked to everybody. I can see where it is good in some ways but there should be a way to turn it off.
Very True.
2) I can't imagine going through it myself. But I just keep thinking of people who deal with that already (such as people living with AIDS or cancer). We may not know the exact age of death but it might be considered a blessing they at least get that compared to not knowing how long you will have to suffer.
In some ways I might want to know, but in others I wouldn't. I'd want time to do things I hadn't, but I think it's be a tad depressing. Did you see the movie A Walk to Remember? I cried like a baby.
3) Well as we see later Kira is pretty lonely too. I keep thinking that Kira and Samm are going to end up together (more than just friends).
I think so to. I was surprised she didn't tell her boyfriend although they kind of seemed broken up, if I remember correctly, at the end of Partials.
4) Investigating ParaGen is a good move. I think if we see a dragon it will just throw me into not liking the book. I like how parts of it can still happen in a modern soceity like we live in but a dragon makes it almost too much fantasy I guess? I think we will see enhanced animals or more of the other types of Partials, not just the soldiers.
True, but this was written by a guy and they tend to like throwing dragons into things. I say this after reading The Rook where for no apparent reason the male author included a blurb about a dragon. lol Hopefully I'm wrong. I agree it would take away from the serious tone of the book.
5) I watch the show Hawaii Five-O and they have a table on there that is a big touch-screen computer and then they swish their hand over it and slides up to the computer monitors on the wall That is what I kept thinking of when she was describing it. lol
I haven't watched the new show. I guess since Kira couldn't power the computers up the author couldn't go into a lot of details about how they worked.
6) I don't think it was Nandita. I was thinking Samm.
For some reason that hadn't occurred to me. You may be right. I wonder if the Partials would have been poking around looking for answers. Seems like they're smart enough to be able to keep some things running. I'm actually kind of surprised now that I think about it that they didn't take over the place. You'd think some of those trained soldiers would have been able to do more than just kill. Some would be communications experts and the like although maybe their link negated that?

8) I think I remember that there was only one vial and they used it on Arwen. But it seems like she would have maybe stuck around a little bit longer to make sure they could replicate it. I don't remember her exact reason for leaving in the end of Partials...
I can't remember either. Was she worried they'd find out she was a Partial? I can't recall.
9) Yes Heron knocked her out and took her to Dr. Morgan but then she & Samm help Kira and her friends get back to East Meadow

10) Yeah I am not really sure how Kira is going to find the Trust. I agree that I think the Trust is higher ups in ParaGen. I am also thinking Kira's dad may not be her real dad since she is a Partial...
I wondered that too. Hopefully we get some answers soon. I wish we knew more about the Partial creation process. They seem more human than the humans in this book give them credit for.
11) No I wouldn't have but I am no where near as brave as Kira.

12) I am Legend is a good visual! (I liked that movie but the dog part made me very sad) and panthers and bears in a Central Park is exactly why I wouldn't be living in Manhattan in my own like Kira. I freak out over mosquitos. I don't think I would handle the end of the world very well.
My kids are like that with mosquitoes. The dog part made me sad too. :(
13) He definitely has his quirks but I think he will become very important to Kira. I also think he will have answers to some of Kira's questions but it will take her some time to get him to tell her.
I believe you're right he may have all the answers. I'm a little surprised he's survived on his own so long.
14) That was a great scene and I think the beginning of a very strong friendship/bond between Kira and Afa.

15) I don't know what is happening on Long Island! Is it a Partial invasion or is something else happening? I am also not convinced that the new Senate is any better than the old one.
I think it's a Partial invasion, but maybe its that group who was opposed to the goings on in the Senate? I don't think the new Senate will be any better, but hopefully it will.
Answers to Questions/Comments for Chapters 11-18 16) From the brief description we were given it doesn't sound like humans treated Partials very well. Did the humans really not see that Partials would eventually want equal rights and would fight and kill for them? I don't blame them for blowing up our fleet we were trying to kill them off as well.
I think they viewed them as machines or robots. I think they thought they didn't feel.
17) The Trust are humans?!?!?! I had thought all along that The Trust are Partials!But wouldn't you know that the humans destroyed their own race.
I don't know what to think. Could RM be a virus that just coincided with the war? Perhaps a side effect of something they did? Did they actually say they had proof it was manufactured or are we and they assuming? What if Kira was created and others like her were created to integrate with humans so they could survive? I know far fetched but I just can't figure this one out.
18) Kira's dad is in the trust and basically founded it! It sounded like he started the Partials in part to help them and the human race. I can't remember but I thought Kira's dad was dead but I get the feeling he may be making an appearance eventually...

19) Do you think it is coincidence that Kira said exactly what the Trust did in their emails? I think its her old memories of her dad and possibiliy Nandita coming back up.
You may be right. That sounds logical. Oh great now I sound like Spock from Star Trek. lol
20) I thought it was very strange that Afa has all this security in his building and builds bombs to blow up buildings but yet he doesn't have a gun and doesn't like Kira's.
That is strange. He's not as passive as he'd like us to believe.
21) YAY for Samm finally showing up! I have to admit he is my favorite character and I can't wait to see what happens with him but I really hope he doesn't die. But what did you think of Kira's ability to link and know where Samm and Heron were? Maybe it only comes in times of stress?
I was happy Samm finally reappeared and was surpised to find Heron with him. I thought that was interesting that she could sense they but they couldn't sense her.
22) As if Kira's dad wasn't enough of a loop for me
then come to find out that Dr. Morgan is in the Trust too?!?! I thought she was a Partial and she has been living surrounded by them and doing experiments on other humans. She sounds pretty evil to me.
I don't care for her. Perhaps she hates people and likes Partials because she can control them?
23) Do you think the fact that Samm and Heron behave differently may make Heron a different type of Partial also? Possibly more like Kira? Also do you think that Heron and Kira will ever be able to get past their differences and become friends?
Maybe they have different grades for different jobs? I don't know. Perhaps Kira is a domestic, Samm is a average foot soldier and Heron is specialized in something?
24) What do you think the connection between Nandiate and her girls could be? Especially Ariel (who I don't really remember much of). Do you think Ariel is another partial like Kira? Or has Nandiate been collecting humans and somehow and giving them gene mods for the new world that the Trust is trying to create.
I was wondering if they were all experimental partials?
25) Samm seems very against Afa coming along to Chicago. I get that Afa is not mentally stable but he seems to be a genius in his own right so do you think there is more to the story between Samm and Afa?
I didn't get that vibe, but maybe it has something to do with his distrust and dislike of humans.
26) It seems that since Kira is a different type of Partial that was hidden away perhaps she may be the Failsafe. Agree or Disagree?
I think that is a very good possibility.
27) Alright the genetically modified dogs was very Hunger Gamesish. I like this series because it seems so different from other dystopians out there. It is dystopian but its also a medical thriller (though not as much) but I am waiting for the dragon to appear now and I don't like that. There was already super-soldiers did the author really need to add in super-dogs as well?
I see where you're coming from, but I kind of liked the dogs, although they did remind me of some show my kids have watched with a talking dogs or maybe it was a book. It had a collar that when on they could talk. I can't remember.

28) Can you imagine you're on a mission and people are killing other people because they can't find you? Do you think Dr. Morgan will follow through on her threat when she realizes no on knows where Kira is?
29) Do you think the city on the cover is supposed to be Chicago since they say the city is flooded? I lived in the Chicago suburbs years ago and it didn't remind me of it. I'm curious which city it's supposed to be.
3) I wonder if the paint thinner really would work? Sounds like it could kill the machines.
4) So it's definitely a good thing they brought Afa with. It sound like they need his expertise to access data.
5) What did you think of the attack and the way Kira saved herself and everyone else? I like how she's starting to become more aware of the link. Will Afa be able to recover? I wonder if the pharmacies in the area have any stock left?
6) What did you make of the gilled Partials? I thought that was a little creepy. Do you think they were really Morgan's spies?
7) Whoa RM was supposed to be the Failsafe and instead of attacking the Partials it attacked humans. What the heck happened?
8)What do you think of Marcus' idea to team up with Dr. Morgan's enemy?
9) So was RM intended for Partials or not? It's all so confusing.Was sabotage involved?
10) I keep confusing the name Heron and Heru when chapters change. Every so often it throws be for a loop.

Yes, I hadn't realized it either. Very interesting. I'm surprised no one else noticed it either. I wonder if Nandita did something to prevent it.
42) YES! Some Kira and Samm moments going on... I personally don't think Marcus is right for Kira. He doesn't seem strong enough for her. What do you think?

43) So I was wrong about the toxic wasteland not existing. That acid rain sounded awful. Do you think Kira is making the right decision to go on? What do you think of Heron coming along just because she trusts Samm? I think she may turn on them at some point.
I guess someone would have found out if it didn't exist. Good thought about Heron.
44) So do the Partials not know that Trimble is a human? Why would they allow her to control them?

45) I thought it was interesting that the Partials live in a city with cars and electricity while the humans are barely surviving on Long Island. I knew they said the Partials controlled the energy I just didn't realize their civilization would be so much like their civilization before the Break.
That was surprising.

47) I thought it was intresting that when talking about Nandita Trimble said "hers was called Ariel"...is Ariel a Partial too?
That was my guess. Earlier I wondered if all the girls in Nandita's care were Partials.
48) Man the fight in White Plains was intense!! I loved the action though I wish they humans could have helped more since the Partials couldn't read them. But I still don't get how Trimble could live with the Partails and they all respect her even though she is a human? And apparently a human who does nothing. Isn't the Partials most basic response to survive? And what happened to the doctor who was waiting with the humans? It seemed like she had important to say so do you think we will see her again?
I hope she eventually we do. That was strange.

50) I am a little confused by Haru. Kira and Marcus often think of each other and all the people they know but it seems Haro very rarely thinks of Madison and thier child together. Have you noticed this? Maybe its because we don't see much about him.
I thought the same thing. I don't get him.
51) Delarosa's plan of a nuclear missile doesn't seem like a very good one. She is going to kill all the humans on the island and then the Partials on the mainland will die on their own so basically the whole population will be extinct. What do you think of her plan?
My thoughts exactly. I don't know. Maybe she thought just making the threat with something to back it would solve things?
52) There are humans out there. Not just humans but children! I thought RM affected the humans so how could they have children? Or is most of Long Island filled with Partials like Kira?
I wondered the same thing. I'm still a little confused by all we learned.

53) So I may have said that I thought all of Nandita's girls might be Partials, but I really didn't think I'd be right. lol
54) Yay! We have contact, er, a kiss or two but finally Kira and Samm reveal their feelings. But they had to be apart. I was totally shocked Samm stayed. Will he become Partial toast? Those poor partials. I was shocked that Heron decided to stay too.
55) Finally we found out the Trust has some biological gene altered link with the Partials and it appears that all of them have the ability to control Partials. It makes sense, you make a killer army and you make sure you have some means of controlling them. Duh! Why didn't I think of that sooner? lol
56) So it sounds like Kira's father could be alive. If so, why did he leave her? Why did Nandita collect all those new Partials? Did she steal them? It sounded like Ariel was Dr. Morgan's or the other doctor's for a while.
57) A half Partial, half human baby? Oh dear goodness. How will this turn out? Can they save it? Now according to Nandita no Partial had ever contracted the disease, but according to Dr. Vale they had. Was that just to cover up that he was killing the Partials to save others by harvesting the pheromones?
58) Why did Nandita ask Kira to find the Trust? Did she want everyone back together?
59) What did the Partial doctor want? We still don't know.
60) You were right Kira and the other new Partials are potentially Failsafes.

62) I can't believe Heron Called Dr. Morgan. What was she thinking? I'm not liking her right now.
63) Will Marcus be successful in making the truce with the Partials? He's got one, but will he get more?

Synopsis:
Kira Walker has found the cure for RM, but the battle for the survival of humans and Partials is just beginning. Kira has left East Meadow in a desperate search for clues to who she is.
