One of our March Books of the month is:

STORM FRONT by Jim Butcher!

Please read and dicuss below.

Maria Schneider (bearmountainbooks) Of the BOTM series, this was my least favorite. It's an okay read, but I thought the guy could have been a little smarter in spots...it is pretty zany. You almost have to read at least one Butcher because these books are so highly thought of.

Brianna | 64 comments I've read this one, and I liked it, in general. I guess you have to read more into the series for it to really get good, but I don't know. It's the only book I've read by Butcher.

That's about the way I felt.

Trulyunique | 5 comments Brianna, Maria... I could not agree more. I read this novel a while ago and thought it was alright but did not leave me wanting to rush out and get the next book in the series.

Nikki (withererose) I have read this book and loved it. I seriously love the Dresden Files (I am almost current with the series only need to read 3 more) and I own all of them except the newest one. Each novel gets better and better. Love this series :)I've gotten quite a few friends hooked on this series as well

Nicole (nike13) I compare this series to Babylon 5, the first season was slow but you have to get through it to really appreciate the awesomeness of the rest to come since everything builds on top of the books before.

I enjoyed Storm Front, the next one was alright and then by book 3 I was hooked and started devouring everything Dresden Files. I started re-reading the series now and am surprised at some of the references that are there now. I mean, book 1 predicted some things in book 14 (most current one).

Sara | 75 comments I've read the entire Dresden Files series and I agree - the first two books are slower than the rest. I like Harry - he's a total geek with shades of Peter Parker - nothing goes right for either of them.

Leesa (leesalogic) I really like these books. I especially like them in audio with James Marsters reading.

What I love: how funny and sarcastic Dresden is. I also really like how he deals with magic. Things like using a sports bottle to hold a potion, or a hockey stick as his magic staff, whatever. It's less about the mystery of the object and more about what your intent is.

What I don't love: even if he doesn't act on it, sometimes Dresden is internally a little skeevy when it comes to his impressions of young women.

My favorite book was Dead Beat. The concept of necromancy there was fantastic.

Lauren (laurenjberman) Started listening to Storm Front today and am enjoying it so far.

There is a lot of world building and it is all very detailed, which does make the pacing a little slow but the mystery is compelling enough to keep my interest

I love the snark and Toot and Bob's characters.

Marcia (marcygold) Ok, so I listened to this on audio and the narrator (James Martsers, the actor who played Spike on Buffy)really nails Harry Dresden, Wizard PI down. This book is a bit slower than most in this genre and the humor is dry. Not even close to the best UF book I have read, but I am liking the characters and the way magic and the counsel is laid out. So for me, it is intriguing enough to give the next book a go.

My favorite charachter is Murphy a Chicago detective who believes in the supernatural at the risk of being ridiculed by the rest of the force. I had a good laugh when Harry "doublebooked" himself for a saturday night, and hope we see more of his lady reporter friend in the future installments. She would be good for him:) Enjoy!

For some reason, despite the hype that this series gets, I can't make myself pick up the first one. It just doesn't sound that interesting to me...

It's not that bad. But if you were to skip to book 2 or 3, I don't think you'd be missing all that much. :>)

Lauren (laurenjberman) Finished listening to Storm Front. James Marsters' narration is pretty good although he does this weird thing with his breathing that makes him sound like he's sighing all the time (you get used to it).

The world building is detailed and the magic made me think of Harry Potter as a thirty-something wizard, lol!

The mystery had potential and there were some exciting action scenes but it was also a little on the predictable side.

My favorite characters was Bob the Skull - he made me laugh.

I've heard that the series only gets better so I will continue for now.

Oleander | 39 comments I liked it pretty well. There was a lot of world building since this is the first of a series. I liked the complex way the author wove the murder plot and investigation together as well as the film noir detective vibe. I think there is a lot of potential here.

As you get further in the series, books 2 and 3 get referenced more and more as things shift from book by book mystery as things start to click together into a bigger, eviler scheme.

Reggie (originalpuck) | 19 comments I think I might've mentioned this before here (but I can't be sure), but I picked this book up a few years ago, after catching some episodes of the tv show. And man, was I disappointed. I loved the Harry in the tv show, but after about the fifth sexist thing Harry had done in the last half an hour of reading, I ended up throwing the thing against the wall and giving up on it.

Everyone says it gets better, but I'm not sure if I want to read through Harry's sexism in order to get to a place where the books are better/his sexism isn't shown as quaint but as annoying and wrong. Esp. since my to-read pile is already sky-high.

Erin Gilmore | 9 comments The first one is good, but by the third one Butcher really hit his stride. My favorite so far was Ghost Story. These books are truly near and dear to my heart. Harry is smart and resourceful and a survivor. I love him.

agree things start to click once you get a little furthur in the series. I love it.

Naapio | 20 comments I read the first book a while ago and it wasn't instant love. But since it wasn't too bad and I was curious about the raves this series keeps getting I ended up buying the next book. I even started reading it but can't remember when I last picked it up. Maybe I should give it one more try and struggle the second book through if it gets better later on.

Adria | 48 comments I read this book awhile ago and really liked it. It wasn't my favorite of the series. But the naysayers really should keep reading it gets so much better. I am currently caught up to the most recent book in the series Cold Days and can't wait for the next one.
