I read this in 2009, but I don't remember too much of it. I planned on rereading it next month in preparation for the movie anyway, so this should be fun!
I've read this book at least 5 or 6 times! But just bought the ebook on this one as well so plan to read it again before I see the movie! When you read this, give it a chance. You need to get through the first 1/3 of the book before it begins to make sense. Once I got to that point, I couldn't put it down.

Yeah, I had to bring it in because it was acting weird and there was a crack in the frame. =C So I'm catching up on the few paperbacks I have on my to-read-list.
I just finished my re-read (probably my 3rd time or so to read it)... I really enjoyed this book (again) but I can see how the 'slower/confusing' start could put people off a bit.
I'm going to enjoy reading The Host again. Like Karen, I like to prepare for the movie by reading the book. Can't wait!
I'm a proud owner of both the ebook and the ginormous Hardcover that should be considered a deadly weapon. I love this book. I, like Karen, have read it at least 5 times and it's one of the only books of mine that I've managed to get my husband to read :) While I don't think Stephanie Meyer is the best of writers (she wouldn't even make my top ten), I do think she tells good stories. I absolutely loved the concepts in this book- the moral dilemmas, what's good and bad, right and wrong. I loved the idea of a 'peaceful' take-over rather than the traditional 'hostile' type. I love Melanie and Wanderer and the evolution of their relationship. I love all the boys. Especially Jamie. And honestly, even though the first part is slower, I was never bored with this book. But, I know that a lot of people give up on it because of that first part so I agree with the earlier comments about toughin it thought that first part.
All the good things people say about the host is actually the only reason why I want to read it. I read New Moon and I hated it...
I love this book! I wish there would be a sequel out sometime soon. But I heard it's gonna be out in 2014 if I am not mistaken
I liked it...The first 150 pages were a bit boring, but after that it was good. And i'm Team Ian, by the way, i didn't much like Jared. Oh, ooh! and I loved Kyle, too :)
@Harshini, it's supposed to be a trilogy. Since I've been waiting since 2009, 2014 doesn't seem that far away!
I get why people how issues with the slow start. I had the same problem. I didn't understand anything of it when I first read it and didn't even continue. And then a friend of mine said it's a really good book and I needed to push through the first half and I did. =) I ended up really liking this book and I think it's way better (and more original) then Twilight. :)

Yay! I'm glad you got through it to find out how good it is :)

There's no comparison to Twilight!! This was sooo much better! Also, Twilight is a YA. The Host is adult Sci-fi per the author.
Remember we will be choosing a winner at the end of the month for an ebook (up to 2.99) of your choice for participating in the BOTM discussion!!!
I really enjoyed this book. It did take me awhile to finish, and I think that was because of the slow start. But I really loved all the characters :) I thought she want sure if she was doing a second book though.
She wasn't, but I read an article not too long ago that she has decided to continue the series and make it a trilogy.
Loved, loved, loved this book. Kate Reading (audio narrator) is absolutely amazing. If I weren't reading 3 other books at present, I'd be re-reading this one. Can't wait for the movie, although I hear it departs somewhat from the book. I didn't notice a slow start, really. It grabbed me right away. And if this is any indication of the writing of Twilight, I see why they're so popular. I will, however, not be reading them. I also can't wait for the sequel. I hope it's as good as this one.

Ooh another fan, good to have you with us! I'm really looking forward to the sequel too, the movie, who knows? Could be great, could be awful :)

I'm not usually a fan of books that take awhile to get into, but I do have good memories of this book and I'm looking forward to seeing the movie.

Nice :) It wasn't hard for me to get into either. I'm the same way, I like to be pulled in from the start ;)

DeAnna, don't worry. Just make sure you finish it before it leaves the theaters :) that gives you several weeks more!
I wanted to go to the "midnight" premiere tonight, but I'm obviously not. I've read it before, but it was so long ago that I don't remember much. I definitely want to finish it before I see the movie!
I know this is late...by like 3 months. But I saw this and I just had to comment. I LOVED this book! I read it a few years ago and it just stayed with me. It was an amazing story and I was so moved and inspired by how selfless Wanda was. It effected me so much that I based my college essay on it! And I'll swear up and down that that was the reason they accepted me. Lol!
It was slow in the beginning, but once I got to the point where they met the others I was hooked. I've been trying to read it again to see if I feel the same way the second time through, but it's so long!
I'm reading this currently. I bet it's totally different from normal YA books. I've read first five chaps only .
I love this book & although Stephanie Meyer said this was her first adult novel I still think it would fit the YA/NA categories. The story is fantastic & a great easy read for all aged 13+ who love dystopia novels.
