Me, either, Dee.

message 52: by Nikki (new)

Nikki I kinda of always thought it was "Patrick" but since he has all the computer power he erased that info. And because of who and what is father was to him, he wanted no part of being "Patrick"
How "in love" was Roarke's Mother to Patrick, would she have given him the same name? Maybe, maybe not.

Then again, His father probably never called him anything but "boy, kid, brat, etc"
And he was always referred to as "Roake's kid" So he is Roarke.

The person Roarke is now, everyone knows him for who he is, he doesn't need a first name.

Mara Pemberton (marapem) I don't think his real name has been ever revealed. He's always been Roarke.

I suspect that he may have been named after his father. And when he had been able to make a choice in his name he just chose Roarke.

How "i..."

I agree with the patrick bit. I kind of want to find out more about the Roarkes. Not Patrick Roarke, but that side of Roarke's family.

Renegade ♥ (renegadeheart) | 725 comments This is what Nora had to say in her blog post about Roarke's 'name':

In a recent Facebook thread, we had considerable speculation–and some insistence–regarding Roarke’s full name. Several posters stated Roarke was named Patrick Michael Roarke, Jr after his father.

Absolutely not.

Let me repeat, be perfectly clear. Roarke was not named after his father. This man is, and never was anyone’s junior.

He’s Roarke. Just Roarke. That’s more than enough.

Some readers feel I hinted in Portrait that Roarke was named after his father. Actually I hinted at another name entirely. But while he carries the name Roarke from his father, that’s it. Just it. No other name. I simply didn’t give him one, for the very specific reason I saw Roarke. And we agreed that’s all he wanted or needed.

If readers find it fun or interesting to add a name on for themselves, that’s fine. It’s the magic of reading. You, in a very real way, create your own image.

It's funny. I love analysing and speculating on all kinds of things re: characters I love, but I find I really don't want him to have another name!

I'm sure when he was born, he was christened something or other (as Nora hints at but does not share) but I just don't want to know what it is because he doesn't care for it or use it. Names have connotations and I don't want any of them where he's concerned.

It likely wouldn't suit him anyway! *LOL*

To me, he is Roarke, period.

(Nobody like him... ;)

Dawn | 3250 comments Hmmm...now I need to re-read Portrait to see what she actually hinted at.

message 57: by Nikki (new)

Nikki Right, I know it was never revealed.

They both do like the little nephew Sean...so maybe.

It's all speculation. No he doesn't need a first name, he is Roarke.
I just thought if any name was given it MIGHT have been Patrick. But if his mother didn't give him a Jr. Name...I'd guess Sean. Not that we'd EVER find out. His character doesn't need it.

message 58: by Jeanine (new)

Jeanine Tucker | 196 comments It's Patrick, I'm pretty sure. He doesn't want to claim the name at all because he's Patrick Roarke, jr. and he doesn't want anything to do with what his father was, since his father was such a horrible person. Summerset encouraged him to keep the last name and simply to claim it as his one and only name. This is at least what I can recall....

Nora says no:)

message 60: by Jeanine (new)

Jeanine Tucker | 196 comments OOOPS! LOL! Well Nora ought to know......I guess we don't know his real given name just like Eve doesn't have a given birth name, right? Her parents never even gave her a name....The names aren't important. What's important is what these two abused, neglected children became, what they made of their lives as adults.

Very true! I'd thought his name might be Patrick, too, until Nora squashed that:)

message 62: by Jeanine (new)

Jeanine Tucker | 196 comments I guess I will just have to go back and read through all of the books again to find where it talks about his name.....it's a very tough job, but someone has to do it....LOL!!

message 63: by Mara (new)

Mara Pemberton (marapem) I don't think it has ever been revealed in any of the books.

I don't when he's had family come when he and Eve have been to Ireland that it has been mentioned.

message 64: by Chill (new)

Chill We know he has a fake birth certificate, so maybe he has different names on his two birth certificates?

message 65: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Clayton | 3 comments I thought it was said later on in the series that it was Patrick! Now I have to re-read the whole lot with that mission in mind.

message 66: by Anne (new)

Anne (annefrn) I may be wrong, but I thought someone in one of the books called him John once -- does that ring a bell with anyone?

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 15077 comments Mod
Per Nora/J. D. Robb, he's never had a first name.

He is simply Roarke. I think that's perfect!

Patrick was his father's name. That was mentioned in the second novella (book 12.5)

message 70: by Mara (new)

Mara Pemberton (marapem) Probably some Irish name no one can pronounce.

message 71: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) It was never mentioned in the books, but I think it was Patrick as he'd want to leave that behind.
