Forget to mention it ( I was so into Covet after reading it LOL), I liked On the Island especially about the Tsunami ( I'm Indonesian) and I cried when Anna goes to the cematery of her parents.

That's brilliant Tracey, thank you so much - it's good to know that it can be from pure imagination! :) I like to write from what I don't know as much as from personal experience. I would love a T shirt like that - hehe. Thank you for answering my question :) xxx

Thank you, Amal! And I cried while writing both of those scenes. Actually, I cried a lot while writing On the Island. Robert Frost said, "No tears in the writer, no tears in the reader." I love that quote.

Brenda (brendareads) Ooh I just borrowed the Fault in Our Stars from a friend and plan on reading it soon.

Thanks Tracey for spending an inordinate amount of time on this! I'm sure everyone enjoyed it and it's always nice to know an author is down to earth.

Thank you again, and I hope your weekend is a bit more relaxing. :)

And my weekend has been very relaxing. :)

message 116: by Derna (new)

Derna Hi Tracey,

Thanks you its been lovely reading your responses to everyones questions and learning more about you and your writing.

I understand what you mean when you talked about what would realistically happen to Anna & T.J. However I don't think while reading your book I ever thought this would never happen in real life. So well done on the research.

In the back of my mine I was worried if and how they would get of the Island. So when the Tsunami came along I was like wow!!! did not see that coming, I knew they had a chance, and that was just one part of the book had me in tears.

I have told you this before but Thank you for adding the Dirty Dancing scene, It's my all time favorite film, and I read that page with the biggest smile on my face.

Did you go and watch Oz The Great and Powerful??

xx

The Dirty Dancing scene was one of my very favorite scenes to write, Derna!! I love that movie, too.

Yes, we did watch Oz The Great and Powerful. The kids loved it. I enjoyed it, but nothing can compare to the original movie for me. It's also one of my favorites.

:)

Nitish (nitisha) | 3 comments Thank you Tracey for this great interactive session. It has made me remember OTI once again as well as given me a enhanced and varied perspective. I look forward to reading Covet in its entirety soon. Look forward to a lot more books from you. Happy writing so that we can continue to read your great emotive plots in that inimitable style which is simple and uniquely yours.

Tracey, thanks so much for your thoughtful response! This was very helpful info for me. I heard about steph's sweet reads on your website and sent her two signed copies of my book to review so I'm excited about that opportunity. I will check out the bloggers you mentioned on your website too. You are an inspiration to me and I look forward to reading covet next! After reading all the thoughtful discussions here about OTI, I want to read it again. My husband adored it too and is the one who passed it on to me. The time you took out of your busy schedule to answer all our questions is much appreciated! Wishing you lots of continued success.
Melanie

Thanks for the response Tracey :) The tsunami worked beautifully with your story line. Again, totally unexpected, but a fabulous twist none-the-less.
It was also very interesting how Anna and TJ had become so accustomed to being "on their own" on the island, they ended up almost on their own little, self-made island in the home they built (with an intimate group of family and friends). It was obviously a life-altering, traumatic experience for them.
I've read your excerpt of "Covet" and absolutely cannot wait for the rest!!! I love having books to look forward to reading, but when I finish, I pretty much grieve for the characters I've connected with. You are definitely on the list of authors who provides me with such depth of emotion, and for that, I thank-you!

That's fantastic, Melanie. I'm so glad you connected with Steph. She is wonderful and her cookies are absolutely beautiful.

Tell your husband I think it's wonderful that he read On the Island first. I have heard from so many couples who both read the book (and even a few who read it at the same time). Makes me smile. :)

Aw, thanks again Darlene! You have really started my morning off great today. I love hearing that people felt an emotional connection to my characters. I certainly became attached to Anna and T.J., which is why I'm having such a nice time writing the novella. It's like visting old friends!

Tabatha | 1 comments Hi Tracey, I have to say that 'On The Island' is so far my favourite book... I felt so empty when I had finished, because I knew I could never go back and read it for the first time!!! I couldn't put it down! I hope your next book is just as amazing. Congratulations on your book doing so well, I can see why!! :) x

Thank you, Tabatha!! I'm so happy that you enjoyed Anna and T.J.'s story. You'll get to see what they've been up to lately in Uncharted, the On the Island companion novella coming in July. :)
